  • I finally had some time to do some irrigation repair on my golf course. I’ve got some parts of the course that have irrigation heads that are 40 years old and still working. Some of those heads are not working. Today, we repair the problem and install a newer Toro 830S sprinkler to solve the problem. It worked pretty well.

Those old Thompson “Commander” rotors are pretty ancient from what I’ve been told they were manufactured from the 1940’s to mid 1980’s and were basically the first Gear-Drive rotary sprinklers made. Now a days it’s pretty Rare to see any still in operation. Thanks for posting!

Most of your rotors there have a "close in" stream and a "range stream" to get close in and far out, respectively. It's a good design because you get the best of both worlds, close into the rotor and far out.

Just change your nozzles for the sprinkler to put the water where you want it

I prefer Hunter, but these toros arent bad. Someone tore one of the older toro's out of an abandoned golf course and i got it! Also the leak has something to do with pressure.

Thats an old rotor! How long did it last before you had to replace it? My parents live off a golf course that has ON stream rotors and Rainbird 51 impact rotors. At night you can hear the clanking of the drive arm when they're running. It looks like they've been slowly replacing the 51 impact rotors with the ON stream rotors though. I thought of going there and asking what they do with the impact rotors that get decomissioned.

Gotta ask, Why dig so much up around the head? Could have swapped it in 15 minutes without all that extra digging you did.
