I'm in the process of building my first lower right now. There is no one I trust more, to walk me through this, than Mr. Potterfield. His knowledge and patience makes him a great teacher. Thanks Mr. Potterfield.
The 2 roll pins are the trickiest part of the build and having correct tools is important. I like to get these done first.
Larry is so calm and clear. Thumbs up MidwayUSA!
I'm glad you use the correct tools for the job. Excellent video!
Glad you're back!
Lowers not scrap if you use a grip with an integral trigger guard like a Daniel Defense.
That's a great "fix" for a snapped ear. If Midway USA carries them, Larry should mention it during this tutorial, good for business. Although, he'd rather sell a new lower, $$$.😉
...broke an ear years ago...hadda get it welded - I learned my lesson...
I did this backwards and the whole gun shop had to come out and have a good laugh!!! Dont be me.
Im building my first AR. Ive watched your very informative videos. This part of the build has me the most scared. Those ears look super frail. Im no stranger to working on machinery but Im still afraid.
I do have a question... you use grease on springs and detents during assembly. Others do not. There have been countless threads regarding the use of grease. Why do you choose to use grease on certain parts and what type do you use.
What is the AR Stoner part #. I cannot get my roll pin inserted.
I gave up on mine, scared I might break a trigger fin, and bought a few Magpul trigger guards that use three 1/16" set screws instead. Way easier!
Yo man I temper y’all having this full video, where the f did it go?
Semper Fi
Where do I get this bench block?
Of course I did this dead last lol
If you break an ear just get a grip that has the guard on it
How do I take the trigger guard off? I accidentally put it on backwards
I've heard that the best way is to first remove the upper from the lower. Rest the lower on a bench block to protect the ears. Drop a little lubricant onto the pin. Let it soak in and gently drive the pin through from the opposite side from how you entered. It's not a big deal if you can't remember how you entered. It just makes driving the pin through easier.
A pair of channel locks will support the other side perfectly, wrap the teeth with electrical tape first
Just support the bottom and don't go Thor on it.
Sooo ah😂 say a guy puts it in upside down
`9*and you dont bother showing how to remove it..Great.
So it's scrap if you break a small piece off, that is so misleading, shame on you. That's not even a critical part of the lower, again shame on you
What would be guarding the trigger with that piece missing?
@@ramboxlegacy14 glue it back on with hard setting epoxy , And done!.
It's a mark of shame, of the amateur gunsmith. But you can get a grip with integrated trigger guard that covers it up.
@@theia1653 Well, i just installed the new trigger guard and with the "block of wood with a hole drilled through it trick" It went without a hitch! And the new guard is great! A lot more room for my fat fingers! lol
@@wavular I just use a stack of index cards to support the ear on the right side, hold it down so it doesn't shift and whack it in from the left with a roll pin punch. I have never broken an ear.
