Hi. Jim Goodwin here - producer/engineer on this album. I had no idea this existed. I'm glad Cameron had the chance to mix this. I was never super happy with my mixes. We recorded this at Paramount Recording Studios in studio C, which at the time had an 80 series Neve. I mixed it at NRG in studio A, also on a Neve. This was an enjoyable album to make because the guys in the band were so open to experimentation.
Hi Friends, I hope you're having a marvellous new year so far! Our good friend and mentor Cameron Webb did a tape transfer of the Aquabats hit 'Super Rad' featuring Travis Barker on Drums! Here Cameron shows us how he mixed Travis' kick drum!
Cool! I haven’t seen Cameron in about 20 years. I helped the Aquabats write a few songs on the floating eye of death album in the late 90’s. Cameron tracked and mixed at NRG. I believe Super rad was recorded and mixed at paramount.
I really enjoyed this video. Cameron seems like a natural at teaching. I liked the way he explained the SSL sections in a very intuitive way, not really paying attention to the numbers but more tweaking to taste.
Cameron did record one of the best punk albums released to date. Agents of the Underground from Strung Out. Would be cool to watch him go through that recording session!!!
I would love to work with Cameron one day as both a wanna be engineer and a wanna be musician. I love his musical sensibilities and ethos. I might have to get this one off the academy. Will help with a project I'm doing at the moment I think.
Thanks for this, Warren. Recently discovered your channel. Fantastic work, a trove of information and great communication skills. Also really enjoyed the Eric Valentine vid. Thanks again!
That may be true! They may have given him a drummer machine to play along with, or some kind of click! This is from Tape, there NO edits to the drum takes! Happy New Year!
It ruins it a bit for me, that he goes into depths about why he chose which frequencies and Q values, in the SSLChannel, when they are all at the exact starting points that you get when You first open the plugin. He only changed the amount of boost and cut.
Hi Nick, thanks for the comment! Haha I'm looking at my SSL Waves plug in and the low mids and lows etc default to the middle, just like my console! Cameron obviously adjusted those differently! I wish you a very happy and marvellous new year!
Yes Tisbonus, I believe we are forgetting how people used to record on tape in great studios, with excellent mics, consoles and of course with amazing engineers! Now most recordings are done very flat, without any commitment to tone at all and the emphasis is entirely on the mix. Have a marvellous New Year!

Hi Vahe manoukian absolutely! You are correct! They recorded this album to tape at Paramount! Thanks for the extra insight! I really appreciate it!
That was a Super Rad tutorial, see what I did there? haha!
Indeed! haha - Have a marvellous New Year!!

Eric Gonzalez indeed!
I really enjoyed this video. Cameron seems like a natural at teaching. I liked the way he explained the SSL sections in a very intuitive way, not really paying attention to the numbers but more tweaking to taste.
Hi Paul, agreed! Cameron is such a great guy and wonderful teacher! Listening rather than looking!
Travis' kick consistency, timing and sound is insane. Wow!
Absolutely! Incredibly consistent! Amazing drummer!
Realy nice teacher! Thanks
Agreed! haha - Have a marvellous New Year!!

Thanks Cameron I appreciate the breakdown.
Yes! Thanks Cameron! You Rock!
What a throwback for me!! This is awesome!! Love the content, thank you all!
Hi Eric Gonzalez thanks ever so much!! Have a marvellous new year!
This was great! I would have liked to see more of the busses the kick was being routed to, because that is also very important t the sound, I think...
Hi Bani Grisson yes, agreed! Caneron Rocks! Great to hear Travis’ Drummers! Have a happy new year!
Thanks for this, Warren. Recently discovered your channel. Fantastic work, a trove of information and great communication skills. Also really enjoyed the Eric Valentine vid. Thanks again!
I wanna work with Cameron SOOOO BADLY! Need to meet all these badass ska bands ;)
Request: would love to hear from Kevin Churko in Las Vegas!
Also, love the video and the channel! Thanks
That's a wonderful idea Alex! Have a marvellous new year!
P.S. Warren, I love your channel.
Knowing Travis, I guarantee there was a click. Maybe it was printed or saved, but Barker is HUGE on the metronome.
That may be true! They may have given him a drummer machine to play along with, or some kind of click! This is from Tape, there NO edits to the drum takes! Happy New Year!
Interesting video, Cameron is great... BUT why is he clipping all his tracks ? I mean kick, snare and Bass DI are hitting 0dBfs !
P.S.S. R.I.P Ikey Owens who played Farfisa on this.
It ruins it a bit for me, that he goes into depths about why he chose which frequencies and Q values, in the SSLChannel, when they are all at the exact starting points that you get when You first open the plugin. He only changed the amount of boost and cut.

He literally changed every band's frequency except the first one...
Yes indeed Bani! Have a marvellous New Year!
I don't get it. These dry drums sound so processed already.
Joël van Dam yep! Properly mic'd in a good room.
Hi Joel, thanks for the comment! Interesting, for me it sounds like it was recorded on Tape! That's the sound I hear! Have a marvellous New Year!

Produce Like A Pro yes exactly! I most definitely hear that.
Fantastic Tisbonus!
ska came before reggae [cit.]
Absolutely! It was the precursor to both Rock Steady and Reggae! Have a marvellous New Year!
