    At Florida TMS Clinic we treat depression differently. We use TMS or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. TMS is an effective, proven treatment for depression that is FDA approved and covered by insurance. TMS is safe and has no systemic side effects. While antidepressant medications and psychotherapy can be helpful for some, many others don't respond to medications and therapy. Some others may not be able to tolerate the side effects of medications. TMS therapy is a drug-free alternative treatment for depression. We love what we do! We enjoy seeing our patients blossom throughout their treatment course with TMS therapy.

    There are multiple manufacturers of TMS machines. At least with the machine being used on me, the "tapping" they talk about is actually moderately painful! I find the procedure rather uncomfortable. But, it is quick. I've only had 5 treatments so far.

      You are very correct. Pain during TMS may vary depending on the pulse width, which varies based on the device type and manufacturer. Though pain and headache are common side effects of TMS, it is rarely severe for patients to stop treatment.

      But, the question is.,, how do you feel? Any better?

      @@florencia2771 At least for me, I don't think the TMS helped any. But a change of meds did. So I'm doing better.

      @Tmslogig The post where I said it did not work for me was 7 months later. The person I was replying to, Florencia, was aware of the time gap.

    What’s your experience with insurance companies (eg BlueCross) approving TMS for depression if a patient already got a pre-authorization approved for TMS at doctor A and wants to switch to doctor B without interruption but before the 36 sessions are over? Unlikely to be approved for doctor B until the first pre-authorization expires?

    • @floridatmsclinic1239
      @floridatmsclinic1239  Рік тому +1

      Clinic B needs to request a PA for the number of sessions left to complete the 36 treatments sessions. The insurance PA person will call clinic B to ask why? Clinic B will explain the situation. The insurance PA person calls the patient to confirm the change of provider. The rest of TMS gets approved. It happened that we transferred patients and it happened that we received patients. Well-organized clinics know what to do. I hope this helps.

    Have you encountered any way to get insurance (such as Bluecross BlueShield) to cover TMS more frequently than 36 sessions every 12 months? If someone is diagnosed with depression would insurance cover an additional 36 sessions if they’re also diagnosed with OCD? What if the patient only starts to respond after 30 sessions and needs considerably more? Is the only option out of pocket?

      Insurances should cover retreatment with TMS after 2-3 months from the first course as long as the patient meets the indication criteria again and they had responded well to the previous TMS treatment course. No need to wait 12 months. I hope this answers the question.

      Yes. dTMS using H7 coil from Brainsway and DB-80 coil from Magventure are both approved in the USA by the FDA to treat OCD.

    How does insurance decide whether your TMS is for an appropriate condition if say you have several comorbidities being treated in addition to depression (but depression isn’t the primary issue). Do they judge this based on the part of the brain the doctor stimulates?

    • @floridatmsclinic1239
      @floridatmsclinic1239  2 роки тому +1

      If the main disorder is depression then insurance (in the US) should cover TMS. It is up to the clinic to add other treatments (like right-sided low-frequency TMS) to help with a comorbid disorder (like anxiety or PTSD). A good TMS clinic wouldn't charge extra for such added treatment. On the other hand, a money-driven business could charge an "add-on treatment" fee for such service. If the primary disorder is not a covered service then insurance would try to decline coverage.

      TMS may cause tinnitus in rare cases if earplugs were not used for hearing protection. TMS doesn't cause PTSD. Thanks for sharing.

    TMS does NOT work for everyone! Please do tons of your own research- I was told I was an ideal candidate, but TMS made my depression MUCH WORSE and caused me to develop severe anxiety. I was repeatedly told I was having a “dip” during my five weeks of treatment, but it’s now two months later and I’m still horribly depressed and anxious. I feel like TMS has broken my brain. I wish I’d never done it.
