Somewhere between middle and early high school, I stopped going to church and stopped believing. Years later, my cousin invited me to church (it was my childhood church) for Easter. A youth pastor asked why we think there are so many atheists and people who have stopped believing. People gave some answers and I kinda agreed with their answers- but then the pastor said that one of the biggest reasons is because of Christians. It's people who claim this title and then act in a way that is completely different from what they are supposed to represent. It was the realest answer I had ever heard from anyone. And it came from someone who is in a leadership role of the church! I wish there were more people like this.
Ed giving out the Bible check to those dudes was an awesome story. I love it when people have to eat their own words once someone clearly more knowledgeable embarrasses them.
Was at a car show last Fri, and some crazy religious guy mad dogged my dad and I when we asked nicely not to put his pamphlets in our cars. He took serious offense at that when we asked nicely. Then told us that he had 15 friends. Last I checked, you weren't supposed to threaten other children of God. He even wrote a letter to my neighbor writing judgment on how my neighbor was a bad parent. Religious people need to take a step back and rethink what their religion is meant for.
Proud of you guys for standing up for yourselves! I noticed I stopped doing it as I got older and it's damaging my confidence as if I lost part of myself. Anyways thx for another episode of podcast
I shit you not something similar happened Saturday when moving my brother and sister in law into their new apartment, at the end of the move we decided to throw away his love seat in the dumpster and when we arrived the gate was wide open (the signs were in front of the gate, so we couldn't see them) and as we take the love seat out of the uhaul a dude in an SUV immediately stops the car and jumps out with his phone recording YELLING at us!! With his phone out he was like "HEY! DID YOU NOT READ THE SIGNS YOU CANT DUMP THAT STUFF HERE, I AM SICK AND FUCKING TIRED OF PEOPLE DOING THIS, IT KEEPS HAPPENING!" And as my brother is trying to explain he just moved in and the signs couldn't be seen he just kept talking over my brother and saying "NO ITS OKAY KEEP DOING IT I'M RECORDING, IDC WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY BLAH BLAH BLAH IM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS HAPPENING!" What's crazy is my sister in law is the NICEST person ever, she would never try to break a rule, why couldn't he just talk to us like a normal human being? Why instigate and raise it to a 10/10 right off the bat in your first interaction with us? If he had just told us in a normal way I know for a fact they would have *profusely* apologized and made sure it never happened again. Something like that has never happened to us so it was such a bizarre moment.
Talking about people in position of power. During my sophomore year in high school we had JROTC teacher who was dating a student. She was 17 and he was in his late 40s, early 50s. Comes to find out, dude wife was battling cancer while he was banging her. The only reason why we found out was because one of his student locked their knee while at attention during practice after school for a competition and fainted. So his classmates ran to the room to get the teacher and the room was lock. They started banging on the door and they both came out of the classroom. Dude came out with a first aid kit. 😂. Years down the road, while volunteering for the veteran’s day parade, I saw him with the same student. Crazy shit man.
Really enjoyed this episode, we can’t let man change what God says is right and wrong. Call out lukewarm Christians when they’re not speaking and acting what the Bible says. Be bold in faith.
Ed is the best, his experiences and worldview are so grounded. Anytime he's on the podcast I always feel like I learn something about life, thanks for the pod!
Ed gives me more convictions than I've ever gotten from a church. I truly believe this is his calling. I pray he comes back around so he can be the part of the body that straightens people up.
Ive been jaded and had resentment towards Christians and the ways we dont live out our faith as well. Underlying it was a lot of projection of hurt from my part as well. In countless ways I have failed to trust in God and serve the poor, ostracized and downtrodden. Yet I still would encourage yall not to focus only on our shortcomings but to refocus on Gods goodness. We cannot do what Jesus calls us to do on our own strength and faith. We ask God to give that to us. It’s not too late to turn back to God in rekindling that relationship. We as people suck on our own but with God we can love one another and start forgiving each other of our flaws because God has forgiven us first through Christ
This is so good! This hit hard because I used to be a believer but I had so much shit happen to me in the last 5-7 years, constant trauma and I now consider myself an atheist.
Hey David, I don’t mean to be annoying my man. But, I was really wondering how your wife Mariel got into art, what sparked her interest in pursuing animation.. and what ultimately made her decide to take on art and animation full-time? When she was developing her style or just plain ol practicing, what things did she study to prevent herself from developing bad habits? I forget what job she had before but you guys had mentioned in a podcast a few weeks back that she worked in Japan. Also, I’d like to say thank you after so many years for remaining true to yourself. The fact that you and your wife both are doing something you both love on your own is fucking inspiring man. I hope to take that leap soon. I’d love to send you my art for both you and Mariel to check out sometime? Anyhow- I work overnight at this damn factory job. Working 50+ hours a week plus overtime. I always look forward to Sundays where I get to listen to your podcasts as well as your other podcast with Tim on Dudes behind the Foods and I tune into Send Foods and When Foodie Calls. Again. Thank you being a big part of my life, I’ve been watching you since I was a kid. I want to say I was 11 or 12yo? I’m 25 now. I hope I can shake your hand and even train with you one day. I train out of Malaipet Sasipara gym and recently got to learn from Lerdsila and Master Cha. Please stay safe, remain healthy, and I hope you and your loved ones endless happiness, peace, and continuous success 🙏
I share a similar experience with Ed but like it's just a dark and small talk to have with people now who do not understand and will probably never understand and that's okay.
Nah I felt the “spit” moment man. I have this knuckle thing where I’m lacking knuckles on both my hands, BUT, one day a kid spit on my face over something I can’t remember, but I back handed him and it forced a knuckle to grow out!!
One of my high school teachers is one of those guys that married a girl that was in my class. I think they started secretly dating during that time because one day I was helping him take pictures of a class event with his camera and I ended up looking through the pictures on his camera and noticed pictures of the girl at I'm guessing his house in a kitchen having breakfast. That shit really caught me off guard. It's been like 20 years now and they're married with a few kids. Also he was like in his 40s and me and the girl were juniors at the high school.
If you haven’t seen it already, That Chick Angel that does a podcast with Kev on stage, made into a song and a music video called One Margarita (Margarita Song. I can’t remember all the names of the people involved.
since you stop posting podcast every thursday can you make each episode a bitty longer haha i love listening to yall and when are you bringing back pat and jason ?
I can agreee and see everything 12:15 he said in his story ~ I’d say 60-70% of religious ppl aren’t humble to be humble or nice to be nice. I still have hope in life and god and I can see the rudeness of those dudes can turn ppl away from religious gatherings- we need to do better.
Speaking of conversion camps, we watched a video in my Bible class where they interviewed a pastor who was in charge of one. He said himself that conversion camps don't work because people would still leave gay, and he said that he also struggled with those feelings when he was younger Also, I don't know if you would or Ed would ever do a book review, but I found this great book by an Australian Bible scholar called "Jesus vs. Evangelicals" which basically covers the same topic, as well as stuff like divorce and politics
As a Christian. Bullying is not the way to help people to repent. Bullying is a sin in of itself. Do not confuse bullying with judging, we are ABSOLUTELY supposed to judge (only use the scriptures to judge). Yes I'm anti lgbtq but bullying them is not going to help them repent. The Bible says to love your enemies.
This is how I felt going from my small town to Kansas City. Like why are people being mean just because I waved hi? Like okay I can match energy if that’s how it is.
So I haven’t watched that video of the lady and cheering crowd but she might have known what she was doing because what she was saying is literally paraphrasing the lyrics to the song One Margarita by That Chick Angel. The sound has been trending on TikTok lol
It’s so funny bc the story about the chinese family ignoring him sounds like my family when we first moved to america 😂 we don’t say hi to anyone because we’re not used to talking to strangers like that 😂😂😂
As a Muslim, I can offer my perspective on the general view. We see that most other religions don't take their faith seriously. Christians don't follow dietary laws, don't follow marital laws, Jews define themselves as a race more than a faith, Hindu's accept mythology more than theology of their beliefs, Buddhists take on a zero sum game and relate it all to luck and karma. Islam is based on logic, rules, simplicity, and a belief in one God. It's easy and when you see the truth, it is hard to deny it. And yes, i know much of the Quran by heart. All Muslims know at least some of it. It's impossible not to see truth and accept it.
I like you two and your running commentary on many social issues. Very sorry to hear about Ed's grade school years and the endless bullying he endured. I know it isn't new but it still sucks. I wish I had half his courage to stand up for myself; sometimes getting physical is the only way to show bullies you WILL stand up for yourself. Also, David ilaughed and found myself nodding wholeheartedly to your recount of the racist neighbor. "HUWHYYY??" Lmao You were about to THROW HANDSSS 😂 Tysm guys for the great video! Oh & thx goodness u didn't buy property. When ur moving again, pls consider moving out east. Literally anywhere east from all thats west coast 😭 if you're hesitating bc of friends, tell them to move too bc anyone & everyone w/resources have already left CA or is planning on it in the near future. Get somewhere safer 🙏👍
The passage Ed quotes is very ironic and reveals his hate for Christianity due to his past trauma. The irony is not that he "schooled" the Christians but his understanding of the bible is not as good as he thinks it is. The scripture he mentions is in the context of the final judgment where Christ separates sheep from the goats. When Christ answers the question "Lord when did we see you hungry...etc", he answers "...as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you did it to me".This is not specifically referring to giving hospitality to the poor (which is good work) but how people responded to the ones that brought forth the gospel of Christ. This is because Jesus refers to those who are his brothers and sisters, which refers to those who are in Christ (which are Christians). Another passage that backs this is from Matthew 12:48-50 "My true brother and sister and mother are those who do what my Father in heaven wants.”. The way Ed responded to these Christians is actually found in the same passage Ed gives as Christ mentions the goats which responded to the gospel in hostility. I hope Ed comes back home to Christ.
David, don't even get me started on hmong churches! Sh*t doesn't fall far from the tree! We have the exact same type of grooming and corruption. We're two sides of the same coin lol
Last week we missed an episode cause I was just so run down lol… but we back on track! This episode im pretty exhausted too lol but we got it done!
OMG I was so worried something happened!! Glad to know youre okay! Cant wait for more content!

Thanks for posting even though you're tired!

The productivity I get every time I listen to you guys is insane. I really hope I get to meet you guys one day and pay it back!
Finally Ed is back.
What a good episode
Another great episode. I enjoy watching you two in a podcast, keeping it real.
I know I'm older (a little wiser) than I was back when I went to church but... This should be a Sunday school lesson. 😂

Good morning Ms. Couch😊

Omg I remember there were those “Christians” in front of raves and they said in the loudspeakers that everyone was ugly because they were ‘naked’
Speaking of conversion camps, we watched a video in my Bible class where they interviewed a pastor who was in charge of one. He said himself that conversion camps don't work because people would still leave gay, and he said that he also struggled with those feelings when he was younger

Thoughts on Simu and Ryan Gosling?
Sad as hell man about the Simpsons situation but it us what it is now.
That song started because of the Christian lady, it started with her then became a meme
Ohhh, okay. I was definitely under the impression the song/meme came first lol. I’d never seen that video before I heard the song
It’s so funny bc the story about the chinese family ignoring him sounds like my family when we first moved to america 😂 we don’t say hi to anyone because we’re not used to talking to strangers like that 😂😂😂
DAVID!!! Can you do 2hr videos? 😢 These 40mins past too quickly.
Just a few verses. There's about a dozen more. I hate people that give Jesus a bad name.
Psalm 41:1
Psalm 72:12
Proverbs 22:9
i miss you ED
I read the title completely wrong and I thought David was calling Ed his new racist neighbor 😅
