Irritator & Their Wacky Jaws - Spinosaur News
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 тра 2023
- Spinosaurs have continued to get weirder and weirder, year upon year, and this time around, it’s not Spinosaurus itself that’s been making the rounds. Irritator, an animal I covered myself on the channel way back in 2019, is quite the interesting genus as the name implies quite the irritating animal when it was being described. A recently published paper goes over their skulls and their dynamics, noting some particularly interesting flexibility to them. I hope you enjoy.

Thank you for the clarification of the jaw movement. The images I’ve seen of the jaw separating at the tip just … er … no.
Not a prob! Unfortunate how a lot of people misconstrued how they would have appeared. Led to some funny art though.
When I saw a spinosaur in thumbnail I thought: “here we go again!”
It's never-ending!
so we have almost croc-dinosaurs, almost duck dinosaurs and now we have almost pelikan dinosaurs... well.
We technically already had pelicanimimus
Are we sure all Spinosaurids have a jaw like this? For example, not all Spinosaurids have a large back sail, wide tail or even similar leg structure like Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus
Most likely not all, but probably ones in the same clade (Spinosaurinae) since Irritator is more closely related to spinosaurus so they'd probably have some of the same fish eating adaptations
Very interesting. Your presentations continue to improve, thank you!
I'm glad you think so! I'll be sure to keep it up! :)
No comical comments, or Hollywood images. Two things I like most about Henry the PaleoGuy.
All this and a Shin Godzilla shout out! Thanks again.
This is not the first time this condition has been reported in a spinosaur: Spinosaurus itself was reported to have this condition quite a while ago.
However, as Mark Witton pointed out, this condition is found in a very wide array of birds, so it’s not necessarily indicative of ecology.
In this video you sound really tired compared to how you sounded during your NZ Bird of the Week videos. That said, thank you for this interesting video regarding Irritator.
Funny you say that! I was coming out of a cold when I recorded it, and I had stayed up later than usual the night before, so apologies on that front. I hope the content was okay, otherwise. :)
Why do I feel this isn't even yet the last wild twist to the story of Spinosaurids...
It 100% isn't. There's unpublished stuff I can't talk about here, but I assure you there is absolutely more to come. :)
Great video, truly love the illustrations.
Very nice video!
Many thanks! Was a really great paper. :)
Great video. 👍
Really awesome to see Spinosauridae *irritate* more paleoartists lol. There still needs to be a lot of effort put into giving smuggled fossils back to their countries, but the future looks bright.
Irritator wackii
Wacky indeed!
Well we knew it could catch some decent sized prey. Now we know they can swallow some decent sized prey.
if spinosaurus had this i am way more scared of it
I'm very skeptical of the "pelicansaurus" interpretation as pelicans have a very derived feeding method quite unlike the Spinosaurs which go for a more "snap at large fish and grip it" style of feeding rather than scooping up fish soup. Perhaps the odd jaw joint is nore to allow more "give" when holding a fish between the teeth? Especially if they were regularly going after several hundred pound fish.
Imagine after millions of years, some scientists named you Irritator b'cause some fossil dealer stick a fake nose to your Skull.
I fully believed that when spinosaurs open their mouths the lower mandibles would split apart before the recent evidence, them also having a pelican throat pouch isnt very surprising.
Wacky alright :) Great Content.
Sure are! Will continue to keep it up. :)
This video remake on the awesome Irritator was great and I wish you have a great day
Cool.
good to know it's in the process of being returned. that's kind of the first thing i thought of when i clicked the video.
nice
update after update spino's just turn into somewhat poorly planned croc niche fillers
now with pelican jaws and head like a door stop(which kinda cool but it's little eyes look so silly where they are now)
Interesting. Though, as a _Shin Godzilla_ fan, I’m heartbroken.
Yooooo it’s shin Godzilla 🤯
❤
So giant pelican crocodile things
Dinosaurs are the Oozaro form of birds
Will you make a video on Trollosaurus?
The voice over was a bit difficult to understand at times but interesting video.
BRO HOW DID HE STOPPED BEING FREEZED HE IS GONNA DESTROY TOKYO AGAIN!!!
This dinosaur belongs in Brazil
Spinosaurid chads…I’m not sure about this one
I think it was an opportunistic water hunter That 8 mid sized sometimes larger But not huge Pray like it probably swallow 1 of those big bony fish not just Tiny fish and possibly animals That came near the water to drink I don't think it was fully Aquatic but hunted and lived around the water That's just my opinion
shin godzilla real
#irritatorbelongstoBR
The narration is difficult to understand in spots...
Sorry to hear that.
Agreed. A lot of these videos have great content, and normally, I appreciate a rapid pace. But holy cow, I wonder if it's the same language I speak sometimes.
nice didn’t know spinosaurids had pronouns!
