On top of that he was a cat person too.
Sorry you lost your mom too. I'm originally from Brooklyn NY too. I have good memories from my childhood. Some of our favorite places to be was Roller Palace, Abe Stark ice rink, Gil hodges bowling alley, coney island rides, buddy's rides and arcade, Nelly bly rides, riis park. Our parents took us because we were kids. I miss my parents too. They're gone too soon. I love how you said your wife and animals mean so much to you.
Gil Hodges Bowling Alley! Strickland avenue, Mill Basin! I used to LOVE Gil Hodges. Nelly Bly was waaaay down that long shady looking path just outside the belt. It always felt like you weren’t supposed to be going back there to me. Do you remember when Kings Plaza had an arcade? (only that place was dangerous back then) and Burger King on Utica had Fairyland arcade and rides?
@@myeyeswentdeaf6213 my family moved out of Brooklyn in 1984. I think I recall arcade in kings plaza mall. I don't know if I recall fairyland. We sometimes went to Burger King near a sewer plant. Possibly Gerritsen Ave. We went to Burger King on flatlands Ave by South shore high school.
@@myeyeswentdeaf6213 I didn't realize fairyland is what I called Buddy's. We went to Fairyland land several times because we're from old mill basin. I'm not recalling the Burger King on Utica. My family ate at Brennan and Carr a few times, also Michael's restaurant, a green front pizza store in coney island where you ate pizza with knife and fork, original pizza Ii on Ralph Ave, Joe's delicatessen, Landis pork store (now owned by a former classmate), John's delicatessen to name a few. We went to Christie's toy store, Reds on Strickland and Utica Ave, consumers distributors, crazy Eddie to name some.
I really love this guy Joe! Love hearing all his fascinating stories, with his Brooklyn accent,…his love, care and dedication to taking care of his mother after his fathers early death and now his own family. He’s a scary looking guy but he has a HUGE heart- ❤ I bet he’s always been a great debt collector, wrestler and now bouncer! He’s huge!!!!! He does have a big heart…he protects dogs and children, and anyone who does that gets my vote! Keep it up Joe! You’re great!!!!
I really like how Mark is so relatable to those he interviews...He can get along with anyone and make them open up and feel comfortable and safe...the shared stories we are hearing are helping to understand we all want one thing...to be seen, heard and LOVED!!! thank you for this
I used to be the head bouncer at a night club in Dayton Ohio for a few years, 800+ people over two floors. I was the smallest bouncer out of eight bouncers, 5,7 175 lbs. It was never about beating someone up but controlling them. By control I mean getting the person or people from the point of altercation to the back doors.
I bounced for 27 years , 50 now I finally walked this last Christmas night was my last night bouncing, i definitely miss it , A good bouncer never fights , EVER , But can clean house , I went by Odin for years , most people never knew my real name.. It was better than cooking Meth lol
I was a waiter for a while in a low class bar and was stopping a fight when the bouncer pushed me away all mad because I was depriving him of his fun. Never liked bouncers since then. By the way, Hitler loved his dog.
I've met guys like this. He has a version of tough in his head that he's seen on movies. He's exaggerating his story you can tell with the inflection in his voice.
Exactly. He's 47 and been bouncing for 22 or 25 years whatever and his sketchiest story was someone side swiping his car? Yeah that's probably the truest part of the whole interview I'm calling bs on pretty much the rest of it
@@nickcox5820 Bro I literally stopped watching about three minutes in. Soon as I heard the guy start talking. I didn't even make it as far as you did I detected bullshit right away.
100% agree hes fulla shit. And whats this guy bouncing now? Himself? Cuz hes built like a trucker. Got an ass bigger than the broad side of a barn....looks like hes been sitting at the computer for 20 years straight, prolly where he came up wit his ideas to fabricate a story about himself
Mad Dog, I was friends with one of the dancers at the club back in the 90s, and we attended one of your outdoor matches in Greenpoint- I have some photographs that you are probably in.
Some people saying this guy is BS, but he doesn't show any signs that the shit he says isn't true. Maybe he embellishes a little, but so do most people. He's not just making this stuff up as he goes. He's too comfortable saying it all.
I married into an Italian family. You would have to know the way that an old school Italian family lives. They are very loyal to the family. Its part of the way it is, period, in everything.
My husband was a bouncer for over 20yrs. 6'2, 300#'s of pure muscle. Just like Joe, he says it was always the little guys that wanted to fight. They wanted to show off to their friends & they'd always look for the biggest guy. 99.9% of the time that was my husband.
Hearing this brought back a memory of my cat, the first 6 or 7 years I had no choice but to let him out the door. Eventually I got used to it, he always came back before it got late. I was always concerned about him being out, I used to kind of let my neighbors know as best as I could that if they ever saw him that he was mine and never to mess with him. Thankfully It never happened, I'm 100% sure I'd still be in jail if someone did. I'm pretty sure most of them knew that.
I love his big heart, his love and loyalty for his family and his 'children'. He is a protector of his people, not just his family and the stray animals, but even those he has worked for. His people are lucky to have him.

On top of that he was a cat person too.
'My Fatha'...reminds me of Jackie Aprile Jr. from The Sopranos. Great interview!👌
👏👏👏Thank you, Mark and thank you Joe for a very human down to earth chat wish you both and your family's well. Love them kids Joe 🙏🙏😉
Once for a change, no bad language. Definitely old school.
No bad language?? Someone didnt watch the interview
@@richnoggin6530 made you watch it again?
@@mjpena53 not at all. I was commenting as i was watching
Dropped an F bomb early.
oh dear, I clutched my pearls
Love this guy❤ much respect ❤Great interview.
I love him for feeding stray animals.
This dudes real af, I agree 100% about what he's saying about being a tough guy.
Born in Brooklyn 😊
@@rippy4freedom I was born near Nazareth high school, then moved to old mill basin until 1984 when my family moved.
The way you treat animals says a lot about your character ❤
oh please.
Yes, anyone that loves animals is one heck of a person!
So a serial murderer can be nice to dogs and that means he has good character? So moronic
What about his character of hurting and killing people for money??
Your comment says alot about your charactet
I really love this guy Joe! Love hearing all his fascinating stories, with his Brooklyn accent,…his love, care and dedication to taking care of his mother after his fathers early death and now his own family. He’s a scary looking guy but he has a HUGE heart- ❤ I bet he’s always been a great debt collector, wrestler and now bouncer! He’s huge!!!!! He does have a big heart…he protects dogs and children, and anyone who does that gets my vote! Keep it up Joe! You’re great!!!!
And thanks Mark for interviewing this interesting man!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I really like how Mark is so relatable to those he interviews...He can get along with anyone and make them open up and feel comfortable and safe...the shared stories we are hearing are helping to understand we all want one thing...to be seen, heard and LOVED!!! thank you for this
His father would indeed be proud.
Great interview. If you want to get drunk while watching this though, take a shot everytime he says "basically".
Absolutely fantastic! Thanks Joe and Mark!
We need a part 2!!
We need to get him back for a second interview!!
What club was this?
Good insight! Yes, as a teacher and coach, it's about de-escalating the situation or person.
Strip joints in the seedy part of town likely draw a clientele that sucks more as people on the scale of human depravity and corresponding actions.
I bounced for 27 years , 50 now I finally walked this last Christmas night was my last night bouncing, i definitely miss it , A good bouncer never fights , EVER , But can clean house , I went by Odin for years , most people never knew my real name.. It was better than cooking Meth lol
So edgy
Greatest lesson I heard loud and clear Family First. Rare these days. Best wishes to Joey, his wife and his "kids".
Unless your family is shit then yeah.
great interview - very interesting person with so many life lessons - thank you and best wishes from Austria
I was a waiter for a while in a low class bar and was stopping a fight when the bouncer pushed me away all mad because I was depriving him of his fun. Never liked bouncers since then. By the way, Hitler loved his dog.
Dude so right he's totally like hitler
Like his people, Uncle H loved all animals..it appeared to be mutual. An accomplished painter, as well.
@@DoomSootherHitler’s paintings are hilariously bad.
@@GrievousAngelo I disagree, wholeheartedly. You must be an exceptional artist or a commie to make such claims.
@@DoomSootherHe did postcard level landscape work in which he got his perspective angles wrong. Amateurishly so. Not good in any way.
Thanks for sharing Joe.❤All the best to you, your wife and beautiful children!
@@p.h.w.gorilla oh yeah the bullshit smell instantly came thru my phone lmao
Thank god you see it, most the people in these comments are gullible
Mad Dog, I was friends with one of the dancers at the club back in the 90s, and we attended one of your outdoor matches in Greenpoint- I have some photographs that you are probably in.
👍🏻👍🏻
I love how much he loves his babies.
most people do.
@@KevlarVTXmost, not all.
I'm not even sure most. Certainly not when it comes to street cats. They don't get a lot of love
@@BelleTolles Ok, my point is that judging a person's character based on whether they love animals or not is shortsighted.
Honestly. I would love to get another interview from this guy just about the struggles of being 600lbs... i love those TLC shows haha
Some people saying this guy is BS, but he doesn't show any signs that the shit he says isn't true. Maybe he embellishes a little, but so do most people. He's not just making this stuff up as he goes. He's too comfortable saying it all.
Most Deff BS😂😂😂😂
@@slowjamcdub yeah OK, keyboard warrior 🙄
I married into an Italian family. You would have to know the way that an old school Italian family lives. They are very loyal to the family. Its part of the way it is, period, in everything.
Testosterone + alcohol + stupidity - never in short supply
I love his love for the animals. I get it
Ditto!

Don't mess with the animals. I like this guy.
What a wonderful interview!!
Loved this one! I could definitely watch another
Great job Mark! This was fascinating
I love this guy! God bless him!
My husband was a bouncer for over 20yrs. 6'2, 300#'s of pure muscle. Just like Joe, he says it was always the little guys that wanted to fight. They wanted to show off to their friends & they'd always look for the biggest guy. 99.9% of the time that was my husband.
Please do a part 6 to this guy! Joe - I really hope you start a channel
Thank you for feeding the strays😭😻
Thanks for sharing your story of your life Joe. God bless you.
Ain"t nothing but another day watching Soft White Underbelly I Love It Here .❤🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸
