    Suggest you check the hydraulic oil level, the noise other than the motor may indicate that it is a little short.
    This would also be reflected in the operating speed. Better at full mark than the lower. Most use sae 22 hydraulic fluid. If you going to use in very low temperature, drain oil reservoir & replace with ATF.
    Recommended by other manufacturers . . . Keep safe, enjoy your tool !

    Best video on this unit that I've seen. I didn't realize you could click the engine on and was pushing it simultaneously with the throttle which only operates in fast mode. Your explanation about clicking it on closed my ticket with Yardmax who was starting to address my issue. Other issue I had with this unit was the limiter. After a couple tries I realized that if you spin it a couple times it actually moves on that pole. Before I was trying to push and slide it down but it was sticking. I'm so happy that you can click it on and do one hand operation. My back hurt while I was doing it incorrectly. Thanks so much. ps. other peoples videos are terrible, don't explain about opening the pressure valve and show how to press the on button incorrectly so I'm happy this video is out to clear that up...

      I too found his other video on this and was shocked to learn it can be on and one handed operation...praise the lord! Mine arrives in 3 days after weeks of rigmarole with the store and shipping companies...lol I had same experience you did. I also said screw it, send it to the store and I'll figure it out. Gets there in 3 days

    Like the song says, a little less talking and a lot more action! over 8 minutes in before he gets it unboxed! If I were to order this, I would have it shipped to the store, and then have them load it in a small trailer for me. Get another person to help you set it up on a metal stand at work height. Have a table on the opposite side of where you stand to catch that part of the log, no bending over except the one time to pick up the piece....even better, load several pieces in a garden cart and as they are being split, toss the splits into a two wheeled wheelbarrow, then move and stack. Less bending over! Presently I have a 5 ton HF electric splitter with the set up above. I used an adjustable clamp to clamp the switch on, then it is a one hand two speed operation. It is 15 years old, but if it ever goes out, I will buy this one to replace it....MORE POWER....Argg Argg!

      Yes!! You are absolutely right!! You don't want to use this standing up or you will get a major kink in your back!! lol I have a newer video where I talk about that, for now, I have something to sit on behind my splitter, and it works pretty good, but maybe this spring when it warms back up, I will try to build something or figure out a way to get this up a little higher at a more workable height, thanks for watching and for the comment!!!

    Why was it showed delivered???
    Who you get it through???
    Id have to mount it or set it up higher on a work table or something but nice set up just that bending and squatting would kill my neck back knees probably hips lol.

    • @DW-dy7em
      @DW-dy7em  8 місяців тому

      That's a good question, it showed delivered because the original carrier had passed it off to another carrier, so they did deliver it, just not to me yet, and they were done with it at that point, it just made it very confusing and even the store didn't know what was going on because on their side, they saw that it showed delivered as well, so at first it seemed like maybe someone took my package or something, I was not very happy at the time! lol so yeah, just to avoid a few headaches, I'd have it shipped to the store, because it won't come UPS or FedEx, its too big for them, it will come via LTL Freight, and that is not very convenient.
      I bought mine from Home Depot online.
      I am still considering either building something or I was looking at those Gorilla Yard Carts, if you put a little platform on one of those, and could somehow get this up on it, it would still be on wheels and move around easy, and I think that would be about the right height, for now I just took one of my logs and sit on it while operating, cause yeah, you don't want to use this standing up, or you'll get a major kink in your back real quick!

    • @jimmieburleigh9549
      @jimmieburleigh9549 8 місяців тому +1

      @@DW-dy7em well if the yard cart is big/long enough it should be just about high enough just in the cart.

    • @DW-dy7em
      @DW-dy7em  8 місяців тому

      Right, I've measured it out, and it would fit perfectly on one of those carts, and it might even be easier to move around if the cart is solid enough, you can take the sides of the cart off and just be a flat bed, my only concern would be if the splitter might topple off, that could be BAD!!! lol

    Two observations: (1) this thing sits so low my back hurts just watching this poor guy stoop down to split every piece, and (2) its...S...L...O...W! I'd love to go electric but turtle mode seems to be its top speed. I'm in my 70's, I just don't have that long. I'll stick with the gas model - and believe me as the owner of two EV's it pains me to say that.

    • @DW-dy7em
      @DW-dy7em  6 місяців тому +1

      Hello! Yes, this is very low to the ground, and this was literally my first experience with this log splitter, I have had to make a few adjustments to use it, at first I thought about building something to raise the splitter up, but, I am actually getting kind of used to it now, I just put a stool or good solid log behind it to sit on, and just pile my logs right behind the splitter, and I actually don't have to get up or move around that much to use it, and I kind of like just sitting and splitting the wood, but you are right, my back was killing me that first day trying to bend over to use this, DO NOT recommend that AT ALL!! lol
      And YES! You are right, that is probably the one biggest con I have about this, it is kind of slow, and compared to the gas powered ones, Probably a lot slower, I think that is the one thing you do get from those is speed, this one has plenty of power, but its not going to win any races, if you are doing a high volume, this one probably isn't the one, so far I am very happy with mine after getting used to it a bit, but you make some very good points!!

    How is there that much rated difference between this splitter and the numerous versions of the 5 ton electric ? The amperage is surely close to the same, or the 9 ton would kick 20 amp breakers incessantly.

    • @DW-dy7em
      @DW-dy7em  5 місяців тому

      That is a good point, and this splitter has kicked a breaker one time on me so far, but other than that, I've had Zero issues with it, and this is the only log splitter I've ever operated, so I really can't say exactly how it would compare to a 5 or 6.5 ton electric splitter, maybe there's really not that much difference, and the smaller rated splitter would do just fine.

    • @trwilkinson4623
      @trwilkinson4623 3 місяці тому +1

      From what I have read, the higher splitting force units have more powerful motors ( W ) & or thicker piston rod.
      Alternatively the pressure relief valve could be set differently.

    you said ONE handed operation...the ones I see advertised from lowes/home depot/tractor supply say TWO handed operation...where did you buy yours? or did you figure a way to make it one hand operation? maybe I missed it in the video.

    • @DW-dy7em
      @DW-dy7em  8 місяців тому

      Yes, this one is just ONE hand operation, I did not modify it or do anything to bypass that to make it ONE Hand Operation, it says in the Manual One Hand Operation, I was actually surprised when I got it, I actually went back to the site where I did buy mine to see how I missed that, but it does say TWO HAND Operation on the website so I was expecting that too, I checked the same listing on Lowes and Home Depot, and they both say the same thing, not sure if they just changed that part or what, I do like the one hand operation better, its nice to have the free hand to catch the logs or just hold them in place, but not sure how to really confirm that now! lol

      It is one-handed operation. I also just got one of these. I picked up a Gorilla 4’ x 20” x 12” platform from HD (on sale at the time). This places the splitter at a better height for your back!

    I’m a small woman. Would I be able to move this around or is it too heavy?

    • @DW-dy7em
      @DW-dy7em  8 місяців тому

      It is kind of heavy, it weights about 180 lbs, and is kind of awkward because its so narrow, I have no problem at all moving it around on cement and flat level ground, it might be hard to move around on unlevel ground or grassy areas, if you don't have to move it very far, I'm sure you would be fine, just have to be careful with it, and once you get it setup, it is very stable.

      But know that the 5 and 6 tonners won't do well with larger pieces. I took the 5 ton back to harbor freight. I'm going to try and keep the splitter on my trailer. That will work well because I can just haul the split wood to a more convenient storage location.

  • @josh817
    @josh817 6 місяців тому +1

    Did anybody have a problem with theirs where it overloads and loses pressure (motor still running)? I was trying to split some really twisted oak and it struggled, overload, piston went back, and handle doesn't do anything all while the motor is still running. You have to turn it off and on again to get it functioning again. It's more a nuisance than anything and the manual doesn't so anything about overload protection/resetting.

    • @DW-dy7em
      @DW-dy7em  6 місяців тому +1

      I have not had this issue yet... lol I say yet, I've tried to split some pretty nasty stuff too, not much though, but if it tries and can't get through it, I just back it off, because this thing will keep trying and I think it can just overload itself, but then I'll just turn the log and try another direction, and then its gets through eventually, I haven't had a log yet I couldn't split with mine.

    • @trwilkinson4623

      A possibility is that the overload valve is not correctly adjusted or the bleed screw hasn't been opened & a seal has been damaged, guessing from personal use, not this make but similar type machine.
