This week marks a huge milestone. Yes, SpaceX Starship Breaks New Record while conducting the full stack wet dress rehearsal. Next an arguably bigger record coming with the Booster 7's Static Fire! We have the historic first launch of the Rocket Lab Electron rocket in the United States. Ground-breaking advancements coming in nuclear thermal rocket engines. Also taking a look at the awe-inspiring Vulcan Centaur on site in Florida, and more contingency plans for the leaky Soyuz MS-22.

Thanks, Marcus!
1:50 There is something a bit poetic about the tower arms having to open wide to allow the rocket to launch. It almost conjures the image of someone launching a bird into the air by thrusting it up with both hands, ending with a wide open arms stance.

Nuclear is so underrated.
Also why can we make Nuclear power plants on earth and invest in new technology to use the Nuclear waste and do the same for that waste like there is no need for waste but greed and fear of something most don't understand.
I just noticed.... 451K !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! - AND YOU'RE ALMOST AT THAT HALF-MIL MARK!!!!! I hope you do something a little special for it..... something DIFFERENT.... not just your typical 'look back' at everything that led up to the ONE-MIL-Milestone... you have some time still... but maybe you could show us something else you like to do in life, one of your other hobbies, maybe even just a general description about YOU (we really don't know ANYTHING about you going by what you post here, so that would bee cool to fill in some deets about the Mysterious Marcus LOL :D )
CONGRATS BROTHER!!!! CHEERS!!! 🍻🥂🍻 🤩
Marcus you cover this with the proper blend of insight and excitement. Even for a guy like me who is fairly well informed on the subject, I learn new things with each of your videos. Keep up the amazing work.
Thanks so much! If I am not nlearning some cool stuff in each segment, I'm not looking hard enough. I always try to keep this in my mind.
@@MarcusHouse that is very sound advice
@@MarcusHouse Aww, Marcus, don't be so modest. We all know you could be a senior engineer at SpaceX is you wanted to be. 😉
The Superheavy 33 engine static fire is very exciting and terrifying. I hope SpaceX achieves it very successful.
Oh tell me about. Hopefully by this time next week, we will have the result of that.
It's not terrifying if your in the concrete business near BC.
Yes we are all anxious for this 33 engine rocket to be Lit up ! Like Elon said it’s going to be spectacular either way! I was very upset like many others when after the first few test flights of Starship it was , what a new rocket almost weekly then the FAA kinda stopped the test flights but now I guess SpaceX was able to keep tweeting Booster 24 and made upgrades that hopefully make this first orbital flight successful! But this waiting these next few weeks is killing me!!! First they said January then maybe middle of February I just went like come on…..
@@PDLM1221 The FAA didn't stop SpaceX. SpaceX reached a point where a simple stand was no longer adequate. It's taken two years to build the real tower, and it's safe to say no tower like that has ever been produced. Starship still has years to go before it's a finished product. Even now there is no guarantee the concept will even work. The Space Shuttle had two accidents out of 135 flights (the most successful US rocket ever), and it was considered unsafe by then end of its run. It landed like a plane. SpaceX is saying a 9 story building can free fall from orbit, restart it's engines, flip vertical, and be captured by the tower it was launched from... With people on it. Setting aside the fandom for a moment, and really thinking about this concept practically... It may take 10 years before such a system is remotely considered safe for human space flight. Starship will be a barge taking loads to space for a long time before people get on it.
@@MarcusHouse
Monumentally anxious and excited. This is what we have all been waiting for.! Patiently, hmmmm.
The wet dress is by far the most excited I've been since the ship flight tests
Yes, the Wet Dress Rehearsal was a good waking-up from our long excitement-hibernation. This way we can ease into getting hyped for the orbital launch :-) - And it's about time.
The 33 engine fire could bring down the house! So that is what I am waiting for...
Just wait till you see that bad boy rise into the sky! Lots of different ways that can shake out, but as long as they crack to Karman Line, I'll call it a success. Hoping for March.
This is where I make a dirty joke...but in all seriousness, I can't wait to see that thing take off. Succeed or fail, it will be quite the show.
@@FleetAdmiralDouglas yeah, great minds think alike. I can't help but think of old Bill,.. and Monica's blue one!! ;D
Yes, and it could be the "best bang since the big one",... the flight I mean!! LOL ;D
I can't believe how much giant rockets shrink!!! Very historic footage.
Thanks again for the weekly update, brilliant as always.
It is quite substantial if you were up close.

Another awesome production team Marcus House. 😎🇦🇺
This is excellent, a nice concise summary of last week’s space achievements. I’m looking forward to the BO engines powering an orbital class first stage.
Great session, and what professional production. Im surprised the TV companies haven't grabbed you yet.
Thanks.
Marcus…. It’s not just the factual information you share with us, but the way in which you deliver it. The 33 engine static fire and then if all goes well the first flight is something I’ve not felt in excitement since Apollo 3 when I was 15 yo. Just knowing we’re going to actually get to reach other planets is so wonderful.
Wow. The full-stack propellant-loading test performed by SpaceX on the Starship at Boca Chica was quite a spectacle. Your observation about methane venting was well-taken. I hope SpaceX has thought through how they would deal with "accidents".
I've seen claims that most of the cloud was not the methane but water condensing out of the atmosphere due to the relatively small amount of cyogenic methane in the air.
@@Scanner9631 The methane would be certainly be invisible because it is a clear colourless gas once it escapes so yes, most of what you see is condensed water droplets. However to drive a plume that size at that speed would still take enough methane to make a really terrifying explosion. Methane has a high energy density (duh, pardon me being captain obvious, that's why they are using it as fuel) and once it mixes with air it forms a very explosive mixture. If it vents in large quantities it is a major safety hazard.
@@FireAngelOfLondon 100%. You can't make a colossal cloud like that without a hell of a lot of cryogenic CH4 roaring out of the tank, and that is indeed what was happening.
Nuclear engines for rockets? As an unprofessional member of the Kerbal Space Program working on rockets at the KSC, I am happy to announce that we've had those for years now. Glad to see the earthlings are catching up.
That spaceX coverage was much better than the video I saw, which is why I always watch you on Saturdays as I know I will never miss a SpaceX moment, thank you Marcus!

Thanks for annother great update! Seeing that full stack loaded with propellant was exciting. A lot of things need to go right for that not to blow up
From full stack to de-stack, I was in Boca Chica during this time...stayed at nearby Rocket Ranch...the whole experience was awesome! Great to relive it thru your reporting Marcus, thank you!

Still waiting for the 33 raptor static fire, now that's gonna be interesting to see.
Really hoping this time next week we'll be talking all about it.
The renders are getting so good it’s hard to know which shots are real
Glad to see ULA back in business, also that picture of the spacewalk and reflection on the helmet visor so clear beautiful @!
ULA has been launching Atlas-V rockets all along and will continue to do so until around 2029.
Forgot, they still have 2 Delta-IV Heavies to launch as well, one in 2023 and one is 2024.
Amazing that nuclear propulsion could finally happen. Thanks for the wonderful content as always Marcus!
It already happened... NASA with other agency's started development in the 50's, and ended in 1973. What is not mentioned by the space channels is that such an engine would produce a significant political resistance by "those people".
@@hawkdsl Depends on "those people." I'm a German and I'm quite in line with the general German stance of not being a fan of nuclear power. I'm also very much in favor of green energy (which I don't consider nuclear power to be) and worry about the utter lack of concern the global community is showing for global pollution and warming.
However, I'm super hyped to hear we might finally "get" nuclear rockets at some near point in the future.
I'd be happier if Blue Origin weren't involved.
The Darpa Nuclear rockets of the 50s spit put their insides and contaminated the area around them. They made a incredible amount of dirty energy.
@@cy-one "Green" energy, even if it wasn't a complete farce, will never be able to meet the demands of humanity's ever increasing technological advancements. Crypto mining alone is using more power then the total power used by countries like Australia for example. The global temperature is still not even close to the temps reached during the Jurassic period, which was 7 degrees C higher than it is now. On top of that, the Sun is getting hotter, and no matter what we do, the conversion of the Earth into Venus 2.0 is virtually unavoidable. However, if we can keep working on the problem in a logical and un-reactionary emotional way, we might find a way through carbon capture and fusion power. Throwing vegetable oil on priceless art, and gluing you hands to the floor is for the mentally ill... Ya know.."Those People".
You are the best Marcus
Congrats to Rocket Lab for establishing launch sites on two continents. Best of luck with future endeavors!

If you think this is interesting look into NeuroLink and Joe Rogan
I think there's a strong possibility that Stage 0 will be rendered unusable after the 1st 33 engine 100% thrust hit. It looks like there's too much thrust hitting concrete at 90 degrees. And they'll have to reconfigure Stage 0 to manage exhaust better.
Two years ago Elon was asked about the lack of a flame trench and builtin fire suppression system. He answered "we've calculated we don't need them. I hope that decision doesn't come back to bite us". I think it is biting them.
Nuclear engines have a lot of potential. Excited to see what we build and develop over this next century.
Looking forward to the first big accident
Hey, non consequential correction here, but the busses seen in the beginning are just a SpaceX provided courtesy that started that day, intended for employees to get back and forth from work. Not for people to leave base for the wet dress.

Super excited for Rocket Lab. Getting LC2 up and running unlocks new finances. Hope to see Neutron progress quickly!
Who wants to start betting on whether Neutron flies before New Glenn?
@@odysseusrex5908 LOL That might actually happen, depending on how fast Blue can deliver BE-4 engines to ULA.
@@steveaustin2686 New Glenn is Blue Origin's rocket, not ULA's. BO has, finally, delivered the first two flight worthy engines to ULA for Vulcan's first flight and the first Vulcan has been shipped to the Cape to begin flight preparations. That's all well and good and the excitement at ULA must be high but Blue Origin still seems to be a long way from finally flying a New Glenn rocket. Yes, we know they have finally developed the engine (yay!) but all we have ever seen of the rocket itself is a mockup. Over at Ars Technica, there is skepticism as to whether they can actually fly in 2024 or will slip to 2025.
No matter what happens, I am really proud of the fact that my country is developing so many new rockets, mostly through private entrepreneurship while a certain other country which, until quite recently, was the dominant launch provider in the world, has one new rocket that they are having difficulty finding payloads for.
@@odysseusrex5908 Yes, New Glenn is Blue's rocket and Vulcan Centaur is ULA's rocket. NG uses 7 BE-4 engines and VC used 2 BE-4 engines. ULA has 2 flight ready engines, but needs 4 more before Q2 2023 and the USSF-112 flight. Plus 4 more for scheduled USSF flights before the end of the year and another 2 if Dream Chaser launches again in 2023. Reportedly, ULA gets first dibs on BE-4 engines, so depending on how fast Blue can roll them out and how often the VC launches, they may not have a lot of engines left for New Glenn.
Diversity in the US launch sector is amazing, with even more medium lift launchers on the horizon with Neutron and Terran R.
Most interesting! Great job of reporting!!!!
Aw! Marcus, saw the video drop earlier and was desperate to watch it, wow! It was well worth the wait. How incredibly exciting, made even more so by you!
Great stuff Marcus! What's the shipping time for one of your t-shirts to South Australia? I want to deck myself out in Starship fanboy drip in time for the launch
That big vent cloud was actually just the atmosphere reacting with small amounts of methane! its perfectly safe!
awesome video!
Look at the vent…it’s below the frost line on the tank. Therefore, when it opened up to release pressure, it was pure liquid methane pouring out.
@@CSIStarbase yeah but the amount of the cloud is mostly the atmosphere reacting with the methane. Like a 90 10 split
Unlocking safe & reliable nuclear energy is huge for our future. Those few minutes getting to orbit are the biggest roadblock - gotta prove the material remains safe even if the rocket breaks up
They probably moved Starship for the Booster static fire. No point blowing both up if theres a failure.
FYI Virginia is for Launch Lovers is a play on the official Tourism slogan of Virginia which is “Virginia is for lovers” first used 50 years ago, it isn’t just something Rocketlabs came up with on their own, just for those who don’t know the original of the slogan.

A standard US ton is 2000 pounds. A metric ton is 1000 kilograms or 1 mega gram (a unit that nobody uses). An imperial ton is about 1016 kilograms (why? Only the Crown knows), but it is just a bit more than a metric ton. A metric ton is about 1.1 Us standard tons. Hope this helps. :

The coverage we are getting, including the intimate detail provided regarding SpaceX operations is orders of magnitude above what we got for the first 45 years!! Great 'media overview' highlight, go Marcus!
As you described the evacuation precautions that were taken a quote kept going through my mind from a few months ago "if a completely fueled full-stack ever fails, it would be the largest non-nuclear explosion in the history of mankind".
Yeah, move those barricades back a little bit more. 🤣
Not many things kick harder than Marcus House's updates (only exceeded by the Arthursday). Ngl, I'm really addicted to these lmao
Haha. Thanks Raj!
That's a massive methane vent. If that cloud hit any kind of ignition source or spark, it might produce a fuel-air explosion that would destroy the booster. Why don't they vent the methane out to a flare stack?
Let's hope Super Heavy doesn't break the other record of the N-1, one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history.
Indeed.
I wonder if any thought has been given to using the retired starships in the Rocket Garden as scale 1:1 mockups for crew habitation. It would be a minimal outlay and visually stunning to see what ideas are in people's heads as a possible basis for further development. Would be cheaper to CAD it up, but it would be cool.
Sounds like a very good idea 💡 🤔
4536 metric tons is roughly 32,421 US barrels of oil, or better yet 1,361,682 US Gallons. Easier for most Americans to wrap our heads around
I'm not surprised they evacuated a large area. If a fully fueled Starship stack exploded (even if only 75% of the propellant ignited) it would be by far the largest non-nuclear man-made explosion ever!
When the N1 exploded, they calculated that only 15% of the propellant exploded.
If Starship explodes it will mostly be a giantic fireball as the fuel/oxidizer burns up rather than a massive explosion like everyone is thinking. You have to remember that upon pressure release from the tanks the compression of these substances drops dramatically and no longer "detonates". Worse case scenario would be on the pad when it is not moving when it is completely full, and the substances don't have a chance to disapate as quickly as in-flight
@@avsrule247 On the whole, I would rather we didn't find out one way or the other.
@@ZeroRyoko 💯 Plus the launch will be far more exciting if they can get to orbit. Imagine waiting on standby for hours on launch day just to see the thing explode. It would be disappointing

Any thoughts on the events recorded at the Mauna Kea Observatory on January 18th? Reports are it was caused by a SpaceX launch. To my eye, it looks like the aftermath of a very large explosion, particularly that we can see it, un-aided, from the ground. Very curious about this.
