Excellent quality video of a historic area from my point of view. In 1943 (80 years ago) my father, a member of the Canadian Navy, guided landing crafts loaded with food, fuel, jeeps, trucks, etc., to the beach at Fontane Blanche, known militarily as GEORGE Beach, or GEORGE Sector, during Operation HUSKY beginning July 10. The supplies were for support of the British army, or Monty’s Eighth Army, as it headed north to Syracuse, Catania, finally to Messina. Later my father served in the same manner, from Messina to Reggio di Calabria, transporting Canadian Army troops and all their supplies during invasion of Italy, Operation Baytown, beginning Sept. 3, 1943. This month I will travel to Fontane Blanche in order to locate the limestone cave in which about 60 Canadian sailors lived during HUSKY. The video provides an excellent view of the area in which I will be searching. GH
