  • EV-olution Quickies is a new series that answers viewer questions, gives updates on previous videos and product reviews, and more. In this video I answer a viewer question about what the Tuxmat car mats look like after two years of use and two Québec winters; I show you how I clean them and what they look like once cleaned up. Are they still like new or complete trash?
    Please feel free to share this video in EV forums and Facebook groups!
    I hope you like this new series; it should allow me to release videos more frequently and still be able to produce my regular EV-olution Show videos.

      I have a 2018 Civic Hatchback EX that I am obsessed with. The only thing I wish it had was a true manual transmission. I miss going through the gears and feeling the road, especially with that legendary Honda short throw and awesome suspension. They didn’t have the manual in the EX trim level.

    As a high heel wearer, I am so happy to see that it completely covers the driver's floorboard. My heels often cause rips in the carpet, so this will protect from not just the weather but from wear and tear. Thanks for the detailed video

    I just ordered a set of these for my 2023 Subaru Outback Touring XT. They are expensive, but I am very impressed with the overall quality and durability of these mats. They literally looked brand new after cleaning. Compared to typical OEM floor mats that don't even begin to cover the most exposed areas (dead pedal, behind brake/accelerator pedals), these are in a different league. Can't wait to get mine installed.

One note, the textured surface seems to have been improved and the heel pad is supposedly larger now, with the factory anchor points being used instead of the central one like on my older mats. I purchased the tux matts a bit after my comment, they work amazing!!! 100% worth $200 American , it was a bit pricey but it’s amazing quality, I didn’t use any of the pins to hold it down it place , just the ones that come stock in the car that attached to the Matt, I do not worry about getting the stock carpet dirty ! I would recommend if you work with dirty and stone to vacuum or remove any small items that would rub against the Matt. The Matt is very very very tough but just in case!

    Thanks for the video. Those Tuxmats are holding up well. I owned a Ford F150 for 17 years and with 201,400 miles on the odometer, the inside looked tired. Luckily, when I first bought the truck, I installed seat covers and carpeted floor mats. Before selling it, i pulled out the mats and seat covers. The carpets looked new, with the usual leaves and crumbs around the edges. With the exception of a small tear on the outer edge of the driver's seat caused by constant in-and-out abuse, and a hole where my right heel wore through the carpet and left a dark area beneath, the interior looked new. I should have replaced those mats at 150,000 miles. I like the looks of the Tuxmats but carpet underfoot sure adds to the luxury feeling. Since my car came with low coverage floor mats, I'm thinking I could install Tuxmat for protection then put the existing mats on top to keep my feet happy, then pull those out when camping or heading to the snow. I'm in California. We have to drive to the snow. How to keep the carpet mats from slipping? I could install snaps or use velcro. I'm obviously in design phase here. Anyway, thanks again for the video.

    Allo Andre. Great video to show how the mats hold up. When I saw the driver side retainer hole in the bottom of the mat I thought the carpet would be stained under it.
    Being in Ontario I can get alot of snow and salt in my vehicle as well.
    Do you do anything special in the winter to collect the melted snow so it doesn't get too deep and try leak through the hole?

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you very much. The mats keep everything in them and if I were to let lots of snow accumulate and melt, the lock hole would probably leak, but I have always had a habit (35 years of doing this) of sitting in the car first, with my feet outside, then banging my feet together to get most of the snow off, then I pivot my feet into the car. This way, the small amount of snow melt evaporates from the heater. If I were not to do this then I my alternative would be to occasionally use a bath towel to absorb and remove the water accumulation that would normally accumulate in the mat. Also to note, Tuxmat now ships these mats with a plug to cover the lock hole. I never got one since I bought ours before the plug was available.

      Thank you very much 😎. The Tuxmat car mats are an aftermarket product that I bought to replace the standard textile mats that came with the car. Since we have lots of snow in the winter here I wanted to protect the carpets and metal floors under them. @@swekiwi4517 since you are leasing it is a bit different as the car will be going back, but how many years is the lease? I am not sure how much snow accumulation you get in Sweden and for how many months it lasts, but the textile mats won't protect the carpet from snow since the kick pedal (driver foot rest) has no protection, the textile mats have no sides to hold water, and they are not meant to contain anything other than a little bit of moisture. One problem in this question is that Tuxmat does not sell to Europe, only North America, so you would have to find another brand.

    • @swekiwi4517
      @swekiwi4517 2 роки тому

      @@EV-olution Thank you! The leasing is for 3 years. So there will be at least 3 winters and we have a lot of snow in Sweden. Maybe a tad less than in Canada, but a lot during the winder period, which is during at least several months.
      The interesting thing is when I was pushing for rubber ones the chief of sales noted that it wasn't necessary, but that the boot/trunk might fare well if I had a lot of dirty things in there (like my foldable bikes and such), so I'm getting a rubber mat which I can cut into shape myself.

Funny that I do not have the same issue with my eSoul. But outside of that, I am very happy with the purchase. Thank you very much. Regarding my battery state of health, I use Torque Pro and the EVOBD2 device that I made videos about last year. In both cases they report that my Niro EV battery is still at 100% SoH. I doubt that this is the case after 44,000km of use, but it does mean that the natural battery degradation is still in the upper buffer of the battery, the portion that we don't have access to, meaning that I still have a full 64kWh of battery available.

    I just got my Tuxmats for 2022 Kia Niro EV and it fit perfect with original Kia standard clip that used to hold OEM floor mats to the floor.. I didn't have to needle in custom Tuxmat clip on the floor to secure the mat... Has Tuxmats changed now to be compatible with OEM clips over their own clip that needs to be needled in the floor to secure mats to floor?

    I really like the mats. However the locking tab on the driver mat broke.(the plastic washer on top) Still trying to get Tuxmat to sort it out. I sent pictures to show the broken part and was sent the piece that pins to the carpet. I called again, explained it was not that part and they sent that pin again! I was able to flip the broken part upside down and lock the mat in place. I think because of the manufacture they'd have to replace the mat. I'll give them another call/email before winter. The help desk did have a fast response👍📞

      I am surprised that you have a problem with getting the replacement part. I read a comment from a viewer about 2 years ago, and they also broke the lock ring in the mat, but received a replacement lock ring very quickly. I suggest removing the lock ring from the mat, taking a picture of it by itself and sending a new e-mail to their support.

    Do the rear seat mats noticeably reduce the rear passengers' foot room? The floor height is already a little high because of the battery, wondering if this is thick enough to make the rear seats less comfortable.

    Are these slippery when wet? My concern is I have a low slung sports car, that has aggressively bolstered seats, and wide sills to step over, so when climbing in I find that on Weathertechs your first foot in can slide away from you.
    My second question is are these super squeaky when wet? I mean more so than something like Weathertechs?
    Thanks!

      This video is of the older version of Tuxmat mats and they were a bit slippery when wet. It was not an issue in my car, but in a situation as you are describing they would probably slip. The new version, however, has a new surface finish and would probably not slip. Neither squeaked for me. You can see the new version of the mats in my last Tuxmat video. These types of comments are generally from haters, trolls, or the competition of the product being reviewed. It is possible that the person is an actual consumer who was not satisfied with the Tuxmat product, but a lack of reply usually indicates otherwise.
