+MeatBeat not to say the strange pressure feeling when you encounter it and have to escape those two times, it could be only some few seconds, but those seconds are nightmare makers
31:05 I can't believe you attacked SA-X at below 100 hp before the final encounter just to save a couple of seconds. I'm impressed by how expertly you dealt with SA-X on multiple occasions but at that point my jaw just dropped.
Anyone ever notice how the SA-X treats you like a Metroid? It freezes you with the ice beam, then shoots you with Super missles, assuming you survive the Ice beam shot. And that only happens before you get the Varia Suit, then you can't be frozen.
+Nabil Mustafa Not just kinda, she is. Or well, was. When she got injected with the baby cells she became part metroid on a cell level. After absorbing the SA-X though its uncertain if she didnt just revert to her pre infection state or still has her metroid cells inside of her (probably the latter though)
I've never heard that theory before -- I'd have thought that the SA-X is, in essence, just another Core-X for Samus to absorb. She reacquires another ability, yeah, but I doubt consuming even the apex of her power negates the Metroid DNA inside her.
Haven't you read when you are in the Navigation Rooms ? She got the vaccine made of Metroid's DNA, making her more vulnerable and intolerant to freezing temperatures just like Metroids. As the SA-X was mimicking Samus at 100% power before the whole events, SA-X had the whole Beam upgrades set, including the Ice Beam, in that way at the she could absorb it and get the Ice Beam upgrade through the X Parasite, since it was stated that Samus couldn't download or get an Ice Beam upgrade since her body and suit wpuld reject it, due the Metroid DNA she had fused with permanently would reject it, Samus was just like a Metroid, and the Metroid is the X Parasite's only predator, the Metroid were created by the Chozo with the sole purpose of consuming the X Parasite without dying or having any effects by the X Parasite, but the whole Metroid project failed and the "Metroid"/"Metroid Zero Mission" happened, the Chozo never told any connections of the Metroids, not even to the Galactic Federation, because they knew that biological mutated creatures like Metroid are just too much for existence, beings that literally sucked the life/energy out of literally anything, but it was acknowledged late when everything was in ruins, Space Pirates took over Zebes, Mother Brain controlled the Metroids, but only one was with influence of Samus, the one found on Metroid 2 that sacrifices itself in Super Metroid to save and protected Samus from Mother Brain. The thing is that the Metroid physiology can't tolerate low temperatures.
If it helps you understand, Metroid Fusion runners use the in-game time measure to determine the run's official time. Since Fusion doesn't have a seconds counter, they don't use one in this case. I think the rule came from SDA.
I think the only thing that truly terrified me when I was younger (around 13 perhaps) was the SA-X jumpscare right when Samus leaves the Main Sector to go to Sector 1 at 6:13. However I was smart enough to not watch it the first time. I wasn't expecting the fucking computer to show it again in black and white. Worse yet, it came out of nowhere.

Fuck dude, when I was a kid my sister wanted me to beat the spider boss for her, but she only had like 6 energy tanks at that point and I thought "How the fuck am I supposed to do this with such little health?" Feels bad, man.
You know what I don't get? Why can't samus shinespark up the elevator shafts? It would make sense right? get a good speed going, aim it just right and BOOM.Shoot right up those tubes.
+Lux Sandre I was more speaking in a literal sense. Like, actual in world. I get why because game limitations, I was more talking about if she just shine sparked in her world right up the elevators. It'd be quicker than the elevator itself
Actually this wouldn't be a good idea. At one point in the game you get stuck in an elevator and you can't get out if it wasn't for a hidden path. If you shinesparked, it would break this sequence. And this is a story based game. So breaking this would mess the story up and it wouldn't make sense anymore. Though it would be cool as elevators are slow af.
I don't know about anyone else but ever since I played Metroid, the Mario jump animation just looks wrong to me. it feels like he should flip like Samus.
pinkfloydfan123 Apparently, this specific Metroid game was designed to be as linear as possible avoiding all kinds of sequence breaks (including text skipping - Nintendo has cutscene/text skipping in debug versions of their Mario/Zelda/.. games but they disable them in final versions for some incomprehensible reason). At the time, they were actively hunting for all sorts of sequence breaks just to patch them out in Metroid Prime games. But then they understood how wrong it was and allowed it back in Zero Mission.
Montassar1992 To be fair, despite the whole "incomprehensible reason" thing, they likely wanted some of their games to be played normally. And while I love speedruns and seeing sequence breaks and such, it's understandable that a game company would want their game to be fully played through. And also, to be fair, with Super Metroid, once you learn how to wall jump efficiently, it's difficult NOT sequence breaking that game! On my very first playthrough, I think I may have gotten the Wave Beam when I shouldn't have (or something like that). I was able to wall jump quickly up a single wall, which was amazingly fun, but also very game-breaking if not careful. xD

+theSuperMetroid02 I think it's funny how people always say it doesn't feel like a metroid because it's linear when metroid 1 (and its remake) and super are the only non linear metroids. There's twice as many linear metroids as non linear at this point

Hard mode was kind of easy for me, but when i started the original one... mah boi, that was hard. Watching your speedrun of this only reminds me how old this game is. Hard to imagine that this classic came out 12 years ago. How many practice runs did you need to pull this off, by the way?
The Nightmare fight was one of the rougher ones in 1% imo if you fucked up his circular pattern he was sometimes impossible to dodge. Though I think the spider gave me the most trouble.
I look this up to see tips on how to beat Nightmare with only 99 health. You did an incredible job and still got hit once (I'm not sure if it intentional or not, but nevertheless, you did incredible on him). I think my dream of beating this game on 1% may be over as I just can't see myself beating Nightmare. I always make some sort of mistake be it in space jumping or more often just timing. Every time he starts spazzing about the room I either go too early or too late. And I thought Yakuza was bad. This thing is a literal Nightmare (pun intended).
+Tyler Stomm Maybe this chain is too old to respond to, but anyway... I think what he meant was why does it have to be there at all? Of course you have to kill it to open the door, but the game could continue fine without it.
I'm curious Biospark, why didn't you skip the underwater segment with the shinespark trick, then get the Diffusion using missile curves? Does it take longer that way?
1:16:22 - how do you shoot those two together? Is that a glitch? Also how come you can kill it with just 5 charged beams, while I had to shoot 17 times in my game?
You do know the fastest way to beat nightmare, Ridley and the omega metroid is to charge your beam once hit them on their weak spot and spam your beam rapidly. It will kill them quicker, rather than using missile which hardly does anything.
tip for the nightmare fight, I'm pretty sure you can just missle him to death right from the start, I've done it before because it slowed my emulator down when I was doing it, I'm sure it works. Edit: lol silly me, you don't have enough missles for that.
Is it really faster to take the normal route through the lower part of sector four instead of the tricky shinespark route? I think it might be a bit faster although the extra text might make it slower. You know better than I do.
Only problem with this game is there isnt any way to be creative with area order, on zero mission you could goto places early and try different tactics. This game doesnt let you explore.
What'd you do against that first core X at 4:43? Looks like you hit it with the equivalent of two missiles at once. Some game mechanic I don't know about?
Eric Payne The core-x have square hitboxes. If you fire two missiles so that the hitbox moves into both missiles at once, it takes the damage for both hits. (Fire vertically while it's moving horizontally, or fire horizontally while it's moving down)
I see. Then there was no point in doing so indeed. Though it is still an awesome run! To think how fast can someone make it single-segmented is just increadible!
Although it is to my understanding you helped Simon(DragonFangs) on his TAS WR for Metroid Fusion, I still think you should shoot for your own TAS 0%, I would be most interested in seeing the result considering the unfathomable amount of methods you have used and discovered in your runs c:
Ah, very nice! Well I hope to see a run that finally breaks the 40 minute mark[excluding all runs that involve IPS patches such as the debug feature or the use of codes]. There exists a plethora of runs I have been working on and off, including the revised missile run, a run utilizing your single wall/inf bomb patch, a run using the debug feature sparingly, one performed at 15% speed rather than frame by frame with no frame advance or pause abuse, and one that uses a code to significantly shorten the distance necessary for Samus to super sprint[unfortunately however it has major downsides, including the unfounded inability to look up, or while moving if you look or fire at a diagonal samus' beam cannon will not revert itself to its normal position, face forward if you will]. I have virtually given up on pressing for speed/perfection and instead simply attempting to experiment quite a bit, as BOX robot stalled my runs for some time.

+Tyler Stomm Maybe this chain is too old to respond to, but anyway...
I think what he meant was why does it have to be there at all? Of course you have to kill it to open the door, but the game could continue fine without it.
It's teaching you a mechanic
huh judging by how easily you destroyed the sax the amount of health he gave you makes sense
Respect for this awesome skill!
*Thumbs Ups*
1:18:09 dang that's a whole 60 damage
Congratulations on your world record!
that must've been worth it to get the world record ^_^
How do you manage to jump against off the wall and get back to it so fast?, As in 16:03
You just barely tap the A button. I guess I've practiced it a lot during Zazabi fights.
biospark Thanks :D I'm gonna try this out when I manage to get my computer working :(
I'm curious Biospark, why didn't you skip the underwater segment with the shinespark trick, then get the Diffusion using missile curves? Does it take longer that way?
+Christopher m It's slower.
1:16:22 - how do you shoot those two together? Is that a glitch? Also how come you can kill it with just 5 charged beams, while I had to shoot 17 times in my game?
THAT NEO RIDLEY FIGHT WAS DAMN INTERESTING! I DIDNT KNOW YOU COULD MAKE RIDLEY WANT TO KILL HIMSELF SO HARDLY!
1:16:00 why was he jumping and shooting down at the sa-x instead of shooting/freezing from the side?
I'm pretty sure that the beam does more damage diagonally bcoz more of it goes through and freezes immediately
You do know the fastest way to beat nightmare, Ridley and the omega metroid is to charge your beam once hit them on their weak spot and spam your beam rapidly. It will kill them quicker, rather than using missile which hardly does anything.
Congrats on the 1% run i could never do it that fast
Metroid Maniac. Omg. Impressive
tip for the nightmare fight, I'm pretty sure you can just missle him to death right from the start, I've done it before because it slowed my emulator down when I was doing it, I'm sure it works.
Edit: lol silly me, you don't have enough missles for that.
The title says 1% in 0:47 but the description says 100% in 1:05. Is that a mistake or am I missing something?
thanks for catching that, i copied the description from my other video.
Still says that. Click bait. It’s the reason I’m in this thread 😂
Nightmare in 1% run has a fitting name to say the least
+biospark How is the shinespark at 22:08 possible?
+Fusion DaBountyHunter You have to hit A twice in a row very quickly (so just mash A).
biospark it worked thx for the explanation! :)
Is it really faster to take the normal route through the lower part of sector four instead of the tricky shinespark route? I think it might be a bit faster although the extra text might make it slower. You know better than I do.
It's a lot slower. Also there's no extra text if you go straight to the diffusion missiles.
Only problem with this game is there isnt any way to be creative with area order, on zero mission you could goto places early and try different tactics. This game doesnt let you explore.
1:17:55 is easily the best part!
1:14:40
O_O
x3
What'd you do against that first core X at 4:43? Looks like you hit it with the equivalent of two missiles at once. Some game mechanic I don't know about?
Yup. You could watch the SGDQ Metroid Fusion race, where Bio himself explains it.
Eric Payne The core-x have square hitboxes. If you fire two missiles so that the hitbox moves into both missiles at once, it takes the damage for both hits. (Fire vertically while it's moving horizontally, or fire horizontally while it's moving down)
This, is, just, sick, . ! :)
At 17:40 why didn't you try to "outrun" SA-X? Just curious. It is risky but possible, right?
yes, but in the interest of not having to reset a lot, i didn't go for it. i don't think i could save enough time anyway to lower my time to 0:46.
I see. Then there was no point in doing so indeed. Though it is still an awesome run! To think how fast can someone make it single-segmented is just increadible!
Dang, 1%?! Nice job! I could never do something like a 1% run in 47 minutes haha. How many tries did it take you to do this?
Although it is to my understanding you helped Simon(DragonFangs) on his TAS WR for Metroid Fusion, I still think you should shoot for your own TAS 0%, I would be most interested in seeing the result considering the unfathomable amount of methods you have used and discovered in your runs c:
I've been working on one for a while. I just finished Mega-X.
4:23 Samus in Bodybuilding Treinament 😎 lol 😆
Your really good at this game.
"you're" I'm sorry I made a mistake with grammar.
This.. amazing! Remember speed running this Metroid as a youngster, but this is top notch skills!!
My god I never thought of fighting that dragon bitch that way fucking genius now I'm going to try it
man I thought it was tas for an min there
blast hornets theme
Yo. I was told my Kirby from Twitch to check this out this run. Amazing Job.
Any plans on when you will do runs on Twitch for any game in the future ?
