    This past weekend, we took one of our best plant hikes yet in Carara National Park in Costa RIca! This park is made up partly of primary jungle that is home to some GIANT trees that can reach heights of up to 150 feet! The trails are well kept and clearly marked and quite accessible. You can hire a guide to take you around or go explore on your own. We decided to do the 4km trail on our own and had a wonderful time exploring this unique forest. It turned out to be the best plant hike yet! Here's a list of the plants and trees that we spotted on our hike are:
    Philodendron pterotum
    Various Anthuriums
    Monstera Membranacea
    Monstera Dubia
    Tillandsia
    Begonias
    Fungi
    Cafecillo
    Cashew nut tree
    Ceiba trees
    Surá tree(Terminalia Oblonga)
    ....And so many more we didn't name!!! If you're a plant lover, you'll want to watch this episode!
    Visit Carara National Park's website for more information on visiting the park. Here's the link!

    Beautiful! Made us remember why we love this place so much :) Some of the shots really help giving the impression of being there which is very difficult in video. We once saw a puma there, and for birding is great of course. It's amazing how nature thrives even in the areas close to the road.

      Hi. Yes it's a great place to see birds and plants. I have yet to see a puma!!! Maybe one day I'll see one in the area. Thanks for watching and Pura Vida.

    The aroids are spectacular! Just found your channel. It's claimed China is buying up huge amounts of rainforest for lumber and resources so it's nice to see what's protected.

      Thanks for watching 🙌🏼 Yes, A lot of Costa Rica is protected, thank goodness. I haven't heard about China buying up rainforest specifically. Thanks for stopping by. Pura Vida ❤️

    What is the climate like? Mosqutos and bugs? Any suggestions on clothing and products to make sure you are protected? Any info helps, thanks!

      Hi Edna! The climate is hot and humid. Pure tropical weather. (On average around 30 degrees Celcius) Light clothing are a good idea. Bring bug dope as there are many mosquitoes in this park. Also bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, plenty of water and your camera!!!! :)

      And normal sneakers were fine for this hike. The trails are very well maintained.

    Hello. Thank you for this interesting video. Could you recommend any English speaking guide for this park ?

    • @BikeHikeBotany
      @BikeHikeBotany  Рік тому

      Hi. Thanks for watching. I did this hike without a guide but there were guides at the entrance that were available to hire and they spoke English ( as many of the guides in CR do). What town will you be staying in? That will help me to locate a guide for you.

      Do you know how much the guides cost? I will go there by car. Is the road to the park paved as my car is not 4x4? Thank you

    • @BikeHikeBotany
      @BikeHikeBotany  Рік тому +1

      The road to Carara National Park is paved. It is a major highway that goes to Jacó (highway 32). The park has a safe parking lot and attendant. I don't know the cost of a guide as I have not myself used one here. If you email me at bikehikebotany@gmail.com I can send you a map and some info 😁
