If you're looking for an increase of performance, don't bother upgrading from 3060 not worth it considering the price of 4060. But if want a low power consumption gpu, then you can consider it. 170w vs 110w.
I wouldn't even bother, I'd just undervolt at that point
@@andrexskinUndervolt from 170W to 110W? You would lose a lot of performance.
@@xPhantomxify not to 110W obviously, I run the card at 130W@925mV during gaming and running the stock frequencies
It’s good for first time pc builders on a budget like me
@@theproblem9938True, everybody says the 4060 sucks because there was no giant upgrade in performance but for new pc builders its a great card for a good price
people say the 4060 is trash but it pulls less power and even if not a huge jump it still performs better than the 3060 and it has the newer gen software and costs like 30$ cheaper and sometimes you can find it at like only $280 or $290
If you have nothing buy a 4060 before you buy a 3060. If you have a 3060 don't bother buying a 4060. The point being as an upgrade the 4060 is a waste of money. Most couldn't care less about power consumption especially when its only like 40w we just want the biggest bang for our buck!
@@davido3403just wondering if the 4060 gets under bolted wouldn’t the wattage go down a lot more?

yes very good video so good that he test it with the best CPU aviable for gaming.
This mean you get less FPS if you dont use the Ryzen 7850x3d but yes try it but dont be disapointed if your RTX 3060 / 4060 do not deliver the same fps as you see it in this video, since Games support more then 4 cores and are made on DX12 the CPU's can boost your FPS.
A bad RTX 3060 can deliver as much fps with a good CPU as a good RTX 3060ti with a bad CPU.
Thanks for the comparison. One thing I noticed however is the power draw of your 3060, which is significantly higher than my undervolted model :)
One thing I noticed too is that nobody asked. :)
@@esaua.7455 another thing i noticed is that this comment is overused

I went from 1060 6 GB to 3060 12 GB and saw the performance doubled, in other words +100%. If someone went from 2060 to 4060 they would see 4060 being only 35-50 % faster..
Hmmm... it's slowing down with each passing generation
Problem is with pricing, Nvidia still using Pandemic + Crypto rising for their GPU price, resulting to them getting low sales in Rtx 4060 Ti. Hope they learn it in Rtx 5000 series.
I will be doing the same next year :3 bought my 1060 since release its still going strong for an almost 7years GPU! But I can feel the need to upgrade each time I start playing cyberpunk77
Yes its slowing down
If you ignore all the new AI rendering tech yes. The 4xxx does more for less power. If you use dlss you can see a doubling of FPS on some games. It'd like buying a care with a high mileage gear and refusing to use it.
Thank you nvidia for making me wanna buy the 30 series more truly inspiring
Well if you're still going to buy it makes sense to get the 4060. But if you already have a 3060 there's no point upgrading

@@suyash4567 personally I would go with 3060 cause it has 12gb of vrams with 128 bit compared to 4060's 8gb 128 bit. I need the higher vrams cause I do minor video editing/3d rendering from time to time. However if you're only into gaming. Go with the newer 4060 cause it is newer, has dlss 3 support which significantly improves performance in gaming. Just look up 3060 vs 4060 benchmarks in youtube it would help you decide what to go for.

Rtx 4060 is a good card, perhaps a bit overpriced, but a good card nonetheless.
People with rx 6600, rtx 3060 don't need to upgrade to rtx 4060 or rx 7600. They wont experience a hug uplift to make it worth it.
However, if you are coming from earlier generations like 1000 series or 2000 series, or even amd rx 570, 580.
Rtx 4060 along with Rx 7600 and Intel arc a750(if you are an enthusiast) are viable options.
Facts I upgraded to it from a 1060, was gonna get a 3060 but I had spare 40 in my budget so I went to 4060
Also people forget to talk about the efficiency difference between cards, the 4060 is much more efficient and uses less electricity in the long run

4060 is more worth it. VRAM doesn't tell the whole story because the 3060 12GB is a slower card
And the 4060 only costs around 10 bucks more than 3060 in my country, so 10 bucks more for about 20 percent more performance seems good
I was looking for this comment. So many people on here are saying they want the 12gb of vram but don’t realize that the card is slower
Looks like the 4060 is utilizing the VRAM more efficiently in most cases, although its not completely consistent.
ex. Just look at Hogwarts, the 3060 is using 10.5gb and the 4060 is using 7gb.
@@Exce1si0rthat happens because 3060 has 12 gigs, it has ram to spare. Had it had 8 gigs, it too would have used the same amount of vram as the 4060.
What overlay are you using for your stats?
Well yes. 4060 needed 12 Gb of VRAM with at least 192 bit bus.
that's what rx 6700 xt has + its 20-30% faster
3060 is weak, but have 12gb
4060 is better, but have only 8gb

vram is overrated, dude
@@randy89555 today it is but for the next upcoming years 12gb will become the standard for games
actually the 3060 is pretty good once you manage to overclock the snot out of it.
@@randy89555 most newer AAA titles require even more vram, and u can see that in some texting vids the 3060 straight up outperforms the 4060 in Vram heavy games, and even in 1440p it can outperform the 4060
Please increase the size of the fps information panel
this.. i was about to comment on this as its a bit hard to find the frame rate section in the riva tuner overlay panel at first.
the only reason i went with the 3060 is because of that 12gb, it is a gamble, but my 1060 lasted me forever thanks to that extra 3gb vram.
You already lost the gamble. This video is solid proof that more vram isn't everything. Examples:
1.) Look @ 11:55, 9.5gb vram used and only +2 fps gain (no real world difference). Meanwhile, 4060 uses 2.5gb less memory, runs cooler, and runs 60 watt less.
2.) look @12:35, 3060 using 4gb more vram than the 4060 and it still loses to the 4060 by 5 fps!
4060 is hands down more efficient.
Until game titles need absolute Vram space to run the game (12gb+), then the 3060 MIGHT win consistently. However, if that were to happen, it would be time for a new gpu card anyway.

we need dlss2 and dlss3 comparison, for example on diablo 4, this will be a direct comparrison between dlss generations
Nice video going from fullhd to 2k.Even tho these aint for 2k is nice to see what they can do keep it up wery well done
I've been running my RTX 3060 on 2k for 2 years with no issues. I can run either ultra or high settings on most games including Cyberpunk. Only now may some games I have to tweak the settings a bit to maintain 60 fps. But I got it for DLSS 2 which is how I can run games above 60 fps 2k.
interestingly enough, these cards (in canada atleast)
are the same price. making an interesting choice between 4gb of extra vram
that at the moment isn't "super" needed but may be quite nice even within the next few months
or the 10-15% extra performance of the 4060 that could possibly be undercut by that lack of vram
Weird market rn.
yeah but with frame gen that difference skyrockets and frame gen is amazing if u have decent base fps
They just released the fsr3 which has frame gen which works for the 20s and 30s rtx cards. I have a 3060 12g so downloaded forspoken demo which has fsr3. Frame gen works pretty dang well so make me wonder whats up with nvidia....... Any ways at 4k with everything maxed. No fsr or frame gen it required over 11g vram. 2k required 10g and even at 1080p it was just above 8g vram. Be curious to see the difference with that game from 1080p,2k and 4k.
@@williamcrooksii9139 nvidias frame gen is much better than fsr3 on nvidia cards because it creates much less latency. atm you cant use reflex with fsr and i dont think thats going to change. either way, both cards are fine, dropping textures from ultra to high is worth it imo. newer, better frame gen, a lot less powerdraw, runs cooler and so on. after the price cut its gonna be a really good deal at 250 260 ish. also dlss helps a lot with vram due to upscaling + in games most of the time vram isnt capped its simply allocated
RX 6700XT got performance and 12Gb vram...my choice.
low vram is already an issue in modern titles and there are many examples of it. Cards should have 12gb minimum with how high texture resolutions are and the increase in titles using ray tracing.

Both cards are fully capable at 1080p. If you're coming from an older gen like 1000 or less, then this is a HUGE leap to the 4000 series, despite what they say about VRAM.
The reason I didn't buy 3060 is power consumption, so it'a good idea to update my 3050 to 4060.

@@sadgirlzluvmoney3768 still no, cause I’m not sure where to live (in Russia, or move to some other place), so it’s a bad idea to buy something that likely will be needed to sell in a short time)).
If you can only afford an RTX 3050, upgrading generation on generation is moronic. Either buy a 6700XT second hand or don't upgrade at all
@@lilithstenhouse267 I'm okay with up to 120watts, so 1660 is ok, 3050 is ok, 4060 is ok, but 6700XT too hot for me. I also prefer DLSS than FSR. No difficulties with upgrade - buy new, swap, sell old.
But its only like a 40-50w difference!
If you are eyeing these two go for the 3060 those 12gbs are going to be useful in the near future, new demanding games are already touching the 8gb vram and just like the 4gb now they are going to get obsolete in a few years
Rx 6700 XT is always the answer, unless your doing professional works. Still the 3060 is overpriced for it's performance
@@TheACTIONZ Althought i agree with you this video isnt about the 6700xt, so between those 2 nvidia cards the 3060 12gb is the best option
Its not how it works
Lmao by the time 12gb vram is useful, the 3060 is already a weak and slower card to even utilise the 12gb vram😂😂 it’s all a cash grab by nvidia their was no point adding 12gb vram to a card that is not strong Enough to utilise it. 12gb isn’t even a big jump from 8 gb. Why do u think the 3060ti has 8gb vram but dominated 3060 12gb at all resolutions
AMD is never the answer when it comes to GPU cause of their dogshit drivers and optimalization that ruins everything.
At first I wasn't very impressed by the 4060. Then I noticed the power consumption is better and frame time is generally smoother in most games. Not a huge leap in performance over last gen 60 series but an improvement for sure. Decent for the price point.
Not great FPS, but great power usage difference as I can see :P

Question for anyone I seen a gaming laptop at Best Buy I wanna pick up it’s a rtx 4060 with 16gb vram and system memory is also 16gb is that good for gaming?
16gb of vram is really good, but the bus width (128) of the 4060 wouldn't be able to fully utilize that vram. It might be a different case for a gaming laptop though. If you can get a good deal on a 4070 system, that'd be the better way to go.
I went from a 3gb 1060 to a 4070 Ti to a 4080 And loved the performance. Best card in terms of value for the 40 series is the 4070 Ti.
yeah I agree as you can get 3090ti levels of performance with the rtx 4070ti
i think 4070TI with those 12GB and around 25% higher price than normal 4070 is not the best card in terms of longevity. in my opinion 4070TI screams to give her more VRAM, maybe NV had should initialy release 4080 with 20GB and 4070ti with 16GB and 4070 with 12GB and leave the 4090 with its power with 24GB. But we have what we have, and soon will be another "refresh" with bunch of similar by name cards just to confuse a customer.

The whole point of owning a PC is to upgrade. Those that bemoan it, are not pc builders. The frame Gen feature on the 4060 series is incredible, it easily blows a 3080 away - yeah I’ve seen it, and I didn’t believe it till I did!!M . If your not upgrading, that’s cool. But don’t sit bumping your gums about others that do want to upgrade and for the similar price as the 3060 you will be future proof and feature proof with the 4000 and that’s what gaming is about. If your sitting with a 3060 we’ll just ‘sit with it’. 😂
Should use 0.1% low it really shows diferences between 12gb vvs 8gb vram.
You litterraly have it in the video, and it is still better on the 8gb side. Vram is clearly one of the thing that has the least effect on fps. You either have enough vram, or not. problems only occur when you don't have enough.
4060 is not a good upgrade, but is a good card if you looking to build super compact form factor PC, a lot of low profiles cards, low temps and power consumption, which can make your build quieter. Builds like those were just impossible last generation gpus

@@Zorban_Snorban Yea, i got a GTX 1080 and what you said is true I want to get the 4060, its going to be a very good upgrade.
@@kosled5502 Not really. its maybe a 20% increase depending in what CPU you have. If you are going to upgrade from a gtx 1080 the worst GPU i would get is the 4060ti, with the 4060ti you could se as much as a 40% increase in performace. However, the regular 4060 is a newer card with new features such as raytracing, and DLSS 3.0 wich would increase the performance even more. But by just looking at the two cards running games natively its not that good of an upgrade. So go with the 4060ti at least.
TLDR:
4060 = new, has DLSS and Raytracing but only 20% increase from the GTX 1080 at native resolutions.
4060ti = All of the above but 40% performance increase rather than 20% making it way more of an attractive upgrade.
Excellent test! Thank you. It’s amazing the loss of frame rate at 1440p

4060 as a card is objectively better than 3060. The only ones who shouldnt get it are 3060 owners who are looking to upgrade to a 4060. it's true that vram matters but you can still run 99% of games/software withour much issues. If you are builidng a new pc around this budget go ahead but also check AMD options in this price point as it gives better vram and performance if you dont mind not having DLSS, RTX and comparitively better software.

@@theproblem9938 yes, I've noticed a similar trend with car reviews. The car could be perfect, but if the 0-60 acceleration on a $26k car isnt 5 seconds flat, then it's "slow." Most people just want reliability, nice ammenities, and for a great ride and comfort with good MPG. We dont care if its not a race car when it never was meant to be. It's ridiculous.
40 series is so damn embarrassing
UA-cam: how about three ads stops in the first 6 minutes?
Me: I'm watching something else, cause like, holy shit, calm down
Lmaooo
@@JegsTV the video looks good for the part that I watched, until the ads chased me away. I was taking a look because I bought a 4060ti recently and was curious how it stood beside the 30.
50-70 less watts for a few more frames sounds good to me.
ua-cam.com/users/shortsZmiFu0yojfk?si=oKK8oRn3fF0tn2Sp heres a short version of this benchmark no ads i promise. Lol
Well i guess its cool gpus can finally play games from the last 5 years. Not sure i see any hope for newer titles though... Especially when the only 40 series selling point is frame generation that isnt in any of said games that run well. Only get to generate frames on new titles that'll run sub 60fps and ray traced messes.... 😢 Appreciate you not hiding specs behind upscalers
Forget RayTracing with the RTX 3060/4060 ... this cards was never made for RayTracing, in reality more games will support RayTracing with more feautures and even when the high end cards has problems with raytracing in Native resolution (i mean by problems i mean not delivering fps above 100 or 150) then just forget it.
На 5 кадров больше😅 от 3060. Гениально нвидиа😂
RTX 4060 = RTX 4050
and rtx4060ti = rtx4050ti
Just bought a RTX 4060 The XLR8 PNY 3 fans rgb 299.00 never gets above 60c freaking amazing .
Damn look at the power consumption difference

Man how to display GPU and CPU names?
@@hassanhafiz44 hard to explain here, but i think someone here on youtube did a great tutorial about it. cant remember the name of the channel tho. just search for it.
CAN the RTX 4060 NON TI 8GB GPU handle AI instructions in adobe Lightroom and photoshop.
i currently have the GFORCE GTX 1650 4GB RAM and its not really performing.
i do a lot of picture editing.
I Might do some small video editing.
processor is AMD ryzen 7 1700x 8 CORE
just get the 3060, 12gb vram is really helpful
is the gigabite card worse than the msi card, some of these 1440p fps recordings are much lower than my 3060. (i have little knowledge about how brands make their cards so im just curious)
it may just be the cpu tbh
The wattage alone says it all. Same performance but 60-80w between the 3060 and 4060.
The Power usage💀💀👻
I found two pcs at 699€ one has a rtx 3060 and the other rtx 4060 as long they let me play at high settings at every game then i dont care wich one i pick
Yeah this is my first time building a pc and I’m just trying to figure out which one I should go for. I still don’t know
buy i5 12 gen rtx 3060 and msi b 550 pro p mainboard
4060 for 300 USD 💵
I have a 1660ti. Time to upgrade and the 4060 seems like a decent jump for me. I still game at 1080 so the vram isn't an issue.
guys im gonna build my first pc but what do u think i should get 3060/3060ti/4060 and im only gonna play like gta v waiting for 6 hogwarts legacy cod so idk what to buy tbh
buy 3060 ti thats a strong gpu
Extraño cuando la gama 60 de la gen mas nueva igualaba el rendimiento de la gama 80 de anterior gen. Ejemplos GTX 1060 comparada con la GTX 980 fue un salto monstruoso en rendimiento.
$100 more just for +2 fps !?
That doesn't seem right does it ?
3060 is too better then 4060 and this is the REASON 3060: 12GB cheaper and FPS is still good, 4060: 8GB Expensive and FPS Better on 5-8 fps
Ray tracing wasn’t enabled in any of these tests?
i got one for 215 and wanted to see how good it looks, i have a i7 8700k and im js getting into pc stuff bc im trying to get back to being a pro fn player, how does the fps look?, i have a 1080 and i run low 1080 with 200-240 fps, how big of a jump is it???
won't be much since fortnite is heavily cpu limited. try upgrading your cpu to something modern like a 5700x3d, fortnite loves 3d v-cache and performs very well on the 5700x3d.
great comparison video. I found a 3060 for half the price of what I paid for my 4060 on amazon. This video shows that the 4060 isn't exactly worth that extra money
I don’t have enough knowledge or experience yet to be able to decide what to do. There’s so many comments on the different GPU’S, and this comment section doesn’t make it any easier. Coming from a 1060 3gb, would I go for this one, or should I go with the meta and buy a 3060? It’s a jungle
4060 for 300 USD 💵
I also have a 4060, but in this city I get about 65 fps with the same settings, maybe it’s because I have an i3-10100f processor?
Eh for that price difference in the beginning i wouldn't mind picking it up if i didn't have a 3060, if i already had a 3060 i wouldn't touch it tho
4060 is very nice at TDP. DLSS 3.0 is great. But damned Nvidia we need more Vram.
4060 has its own demands in the market, its for people who want to play 1080p at almost Ultra settings and have old but quality 500W PSU's or some new cheap 500W or new quality 450w, but the first situation could be more real for buyers, also they get a card that basically performs like an overclocked 3060 albeit with less VRam, but with the innovative option of Frame Generation, they spend nothing for power upgrade, play 95% of games on Ultra at 1080p with better FPS than 3060, even with 128 bit buss and 8GB Vram, and where they cant get FPS (e.g. The Last of Us) or on any game that is unoptimized on 8GB VRam, they turn on FG and get a huge boost with almost no drop in quality, even most games can run Ultra + Ray Tracing with 8GB VRam at 1080p in cards stronger than 4060 and 3060Ti, so in case they suffer a slowdown, they turn on FG, also their card is brand new, not used. basically its a win-win situation for the people who want it. But for most people it's not a good deal, you could basically get a second hand 3060 12GB and not worry about VRam and have a decent Pixel/Texel Fillrate and 192 bit bus, and when the FPS gets low, you turn on DLSS and the problem solved, runs any game on 1080p with RT enabled at least above 35-40 FPS average on DLSS Quality or no DLSS on games with less load, even Cyberpunk at 1080p with maxed settings + RT + Path Tracing + DLSS Quality (PT not in photo mode, and in windowed borderless) get you around 35 FPS and with the lowest drop on 29 FPS, so you want higher FPS turn off Path Tracing. There is another card good for the money on the second hand market is the 3060ti, monstrous speed for the least budget, eats the 3060 12GB, just some mini stutters at some games some minimal texture loading issues that happen on 8GB cards but getting DDR5 may help that a bit, but the speed is impressive for the money, at least where I live (Iran) they cost the same. On Brand New cards for people with quite new 500W-550W PSU's, a 4060ti 16GB could be a great deal, some say put a bit more and get 4070, but you need a huge power upgrade as well as less VRam (not important here 12GB is more than enough on 1080p and 1440p), so a 4060 Ti 16GB performes like an overclocked 3060ti with twice VRam, Win-Win for many people not wanting to play 4K, just the 128 bit bus may stuggle for people who do rendering stuff, so its brilliant for most gamers. The best card you can get for the money if you want to spend big and play at 4K, get a 850w PSU and a 4070 Ti Super, its a monster, 4080 is a but faster but much more expensive. You can play any game at 4K with DLSS Quality at above 30-35 FPS avg, using FG puts it up at least 8-18 FPS. These are (in my opinion) the only cards that are worth buying depending on your needs. A 4060 Ti 16GB is more than enough on 1080p, even 1440p, but for 4K, you better try not to go lower than 4070 Ti Super (which is on par with 3090 Ti, but with 8 GB Less VRam which isn't of any concern as of yet in 4K, most games barely Fill Up 16GB VRam in 4K at most)
Cyberpunk performance on my 3060 12GB was with 12100F i3
Don't forget about power consumption and DLSS 3.0. it is worth extra money
The watt usages is better tho
remember the 4060 can use frame generation while the 3060 can't
if you have rtx 3060 like i did your only cheap choice for upgrade is the rx 6750 xt...huge upgrade for its money or after the next upgrade choice is the rtx 4070
tomb rider has a nephew.. 17:39
just bought a 4060 8gb OC. I honestly prefer this card more because of the power consumption. I don't play games I just need the cuda core for doing deep learning stuff thats why I cant go AMD. And since My pc is turned on almost non stop the power consumption of the 4060 will pile up to more savings than the 3060
If i don't gonna use the dlss, just playing competitive games, should i buy a 3060 or 4060?
Its funny nvidia now promoting power usage , but didn't do that with rtx3000 series GPUs , cause they were power hog and amd GPUs were more efficient .
Lol.
Really? How about rx 7600? Haha
LOL
I used an old laptop with gtx 950 and now I build my first pc setup with rtx 4060, I know that amd radeon is a lot cheaper and gives you more fps but I also stream.. So the nvenc codec is more efficient for me, because amd codec is horrible blurry, pixilated..
I can buy the 3060 12gb vram, which indeed is better for the future but in the newer 40 series there is the AV1 codec I also want to enjoy..
I also can sell rtx 4060 easier in the future to get a better 40 series
But my budget was limited ❤️🙏
went from a 1050ti to an RTX 4060 and everything changed (for the better!) beyond my imagination.
Indeed.
first of all why even GTX 1050ti ... i hope you understand that this gpu was 50% worse then a Rx570 back then and cost more.
Can you immagine that the GTX 1050ti had the performance of a Flagship card from the year 2011 ? try to play games on a flagship card that is 5 years old (no you cant even count that because since 2011 alot changed in gaming and hardware usage).
It will be like you pick up a GTX 980 and try to play Starfield with it and get disapointed / or calisto protocol or elan wake 2 or any other game.
But you did not LEARN your Mistake and bought the worst GPU in 2023, the RTX 4060 that is so bad that you can just rethink why you do this to yourself ?
Even the Rx6700xt smashes the RTX 4060 in to a wall and laugh at that card and the Rx6700xt can be bought new for 300$ ... the Rx7700xt cost a lil bit more then the RTX 4060 but it smashes it even in RayTracing in to the wall (okey the Rx6700xt smashes it in raytracing too so both amd cards destroy the RTX 4060) and they cost less money.
a wounder that you did not bought the RTX 3050, because basicly the RTX 4060 is a 4050 but because of the failed scam from Nvidia and the backlash form the Internet Community Nvidia decided to put all GPU's a rank higher and sell it for more money just because they wanted to sell the RTX 4070ti as a GTX 4080 12gb for more money (over 1000$).
Stop buying stuff from a company that treat the customers like the worst, but some people like this abusive relationship.
r u playin in 1080p or 144op?
@@allxtend4005 some valid points..

I went from a 1060 to 3060 12gb is insane 😮
Why is everyone after the 4060's TDP as the main selling point? Just undervolt + overclock your 3060. It'll perform the same as stock but use 110 to 120w.
And you are sacrificing 4gb of vram. 8gb is now lowest end/entry level gpu territory. NOT on whats supposed to be a midrange gpu.
Infact, why didn't nvidia just make the 4060ti a 192bit 12gb gpu and cap its tdp to 140w and sell that as the 4060? Then you'd see ~3070ti performance if not more
The real test of the extra 4Gb would be at 4K resolution.
Thanks for the video, it's okay change my rtx 2060 for a rtx 3060 or change directly to rtx 4060?
i changed from 1060 to 4060 amazing increase in performance. id say if you have a 2060 or newer u dont need to upgrade
Only Power consumption number looks good
Hey can anybody suggest me which one i should buy i can get the 4060 and 3060 in just 5-6 dollors diffrence so which one i should purchase
4060 is your choice here. If the price defference was significantly high for not in favor of 4060, then 3060 would be a good choice.
Wait wtf… 60fps on 1080p in 2023 for a $400 USD card in australia. That’s terrible.
I haven't played a games in the last 10 years. now I bought a new laptop on RTX 4060 and just enjoy the new games .By the way, my last computer on which I played was with a GT620M graphics card 1GB
Pure rasterization tests are fun for micro chip geeks but mean nothing in modern games optimized for advanced rendering in making a buying decision.
