Muse fans are a nice community so they like your honest reaction. Maybe somewhere there is a Muse song that deserves a 10. Citizen Erased or Hysteria could be those songs
Oh no, no no, Gmon, not you too! I NEVER got into the Muse, friends tried, I just see them as another generic sounding band I CANNOT tell from another band when I hear their songs come on.
@@brucenadeau5920 I don't get that at all man. There's nothing generic at all about Muse. Bellamy is incredibly talented. They have B sides that are better than most bands albums and their live shows are amazing. Try listening to the album's Origin of Symmetry or Absolution and see what you think. If it's not for you, fair enough, but it's definitely not generic.
@@gmon78 it's that when I hear ANY of their songs there is nothing for me personally that sets them apart knowing who is playing a song off the bat... I know enough Muse songs now that when I do have the radio and they come on, IF I didn't know the song, it could be one of a dozen bands UNTIL I hear the vocals. I LOATHE that about 95% of bands these days. A Pearl Jam song comes on for example, no matter the album and year I can say, "Oh that must be Pearl Jam, listen to that tone and opening structure, that is Mike and Stone, OR Jeff on bass"... since the mid to late 90's it's mainly generic, I CANNOT tell most bands from another until I hear the singer if I only know a few songs, nothing to set them apart, imo.
@@brucenadeau5920 are you crazy? Name one band that sounds even remotely close to Muse. Who else is using operatic strings, classical piano, and mixing it in with hard rock? Who’s else has Matt Bellamy’s vocal range and falsetto? His voice is as distinct as it gets. Even David here was able to recall remembering Matt’s voice from Rock Band game without even knowing the band. And don’t say Radiohead please. Not one band has even been able to copy them. Literally no one sounds like them. I mean, did you even watch this video? Who else is writing full-on rock symphonies?
@@amassaic ever HEAR of "Symphonic metal", Sting has done, Rick Wakeman.... The Muse ARE not the only ones who does it. Classical piano has been by SO MANY people it is not funny.... Looks like I will be the first who tell that: "classical" parts in this track and in Butterflies and Hurricanes are fragments of Sergei Rachmaninoff`s piano concerts. Matthew Bellamy always says that Rachmaninoff`s music greatly influenced the formation of his own music style
Did the words 'nice resolve' just give anyone else spaceballs flashbacks XD On a serious note though, its lovely to see this symphonic stuff more these days!
This may be my all-time favorite Muse reaction & review from you. While not your style, and not your highest score, it was just my favorite Muse analysis of yours. That includes every reaction until today (Oh yeah, I've watched em all, at least 2x each!) Funny little story: My Grandpa treated me to a trip Yosemite, under the condition I drive. I have the instrumental version of Exogenesis. I played it on the drive (he listens strictly to classical music, but absolutely knows nothing about classical music). After the 10+ minute piece ended, he goes "You listen to this kind of music?". And I say yeah. "It was nice". So my Grandpa thinks I listen to classical music, and is proud of me. At least, that's how I chose to take it 😂 That was the most receptive he has ever been to anything that I like, ever. That's what I love about Muse. There's something for everyone, and they execute well. DH, feelin', YOU!
Let's not forget the influence of the regular military drum beat to music and especially rock. For example unemployed Civil War military bands both White and Black, and onwards.
Great reaction man, thanks! I really enjoy when someone analysis music theory for muse song. Hope you would react to Space Dementia live at reading 2011 or Citizen Erased from the same concert. Thank you again!
Your probably are going to laugh at my statement about this song but it's an out of body experience to me I feel as if I am floating above my body so beautiful very much like I would envision bach or Mozart would write today if they were still alive today......
It's not often you hear something very close to a countertenor voice in modern music. And Muse, at their most florid, always reminds me of a mashup of Queen and ELO
Seriously good reaction and I like you are honest when it's not something for you because you can appreciate a good song even tho is not for you, but I'm with you 7.8 is fair, I'd stick to their firts 5 albums, thanks for reacting to our Fav band!
Its so interesting to compare how a proffessional musician( I´m guessing you are because of how incredibly detailed you are in your analysis) and a music listening enthusiast who cant play any instruments or read notes (thats ME!) interprets music. It´s nice to know that both can enjoy the same kind of music but probably experiences it differently though.....
Saw Muse twice prior to the pandemic. First show was awesome. They brought a gigantic collapsable pyramid of lights and laser set up. Really cool. The second show had a big robotic ballon man creature ( kind of schmalz ) but they where still pretty good.
Great reaction as ever thanks! I know you have reacted to Stockholm Syndrone before, but this is my favourite live version of it, with great jam at the end! ua-cam.com/video/r3a5dt3d1JA/v-deo.html Also agree with others " Citizen Erased" is a must! ua-cam.com/video/34RKd5n56uA/v-deo.html
Thank you for your insightful comments. Very interesting! I honestly agree with you. I appreciate the talent that went into it (especially after hearing you discuss it), but it’s just not for me. I adore Muse. They’re one of my favorite bands. This one doesn’t really move me though. That said, you really should do some live Muse. 99% of the time I feel people should listen to studio versions first. The other 1% is Muse. They were made to be seen and heard LIVE!

I am a huge Muse fan and a huge classical music fan but I have always disliked listening to this, I haven’t heard it for many years and I won’t be listening to it again. It is monotonous and quite boring. Your score was far better than I would give it. Thank you
I'm TRYING here EVERY Muse song BUT I just CANNOT get into these guys and dig them, they are just another generic sounding band... and Here comes my haters for that comment! lol
@Ste Srad nicely said! That would have been my comment back as well. BUT sadly I DO stick by my comment. I HAVE tried to get into these guys BUT they ARE generic.... When I only knew TWO Muse songs I could NOT tell them apart from any of the other bands on the radio or Sirus when they came on, NOTHING in their sound sets them apart from their counterparts MINUS the vocalist has his own distinct voice. I like MORE to a band than just a singers voice, I LIKE originality from a band and I just don't see that with these guys, just another band that doesn't stick out for me. Sorry if that bugs ya lol :)
@Ste Srad The ONLY reason I can tell it's a Muse song when their songs come on is I know about a dozen songs due to my kids, so I know who they are when I hear them come on, the ONLY reason, otherwise just another band out of a handful :)
@Ste Srad generic for me in music has two contents.. Pop music and the rest of music... Pop music is generic as in it uses the same chords and tweaks the arrangements and ALL production and engineering done the same, no matter the artist. For the rest of music, generic would be they ALL sound alike in style, no sound of their own to separate them out from another band... Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, U2, Dire Straits, Zepplin and countless bands pre late 90's ALL had their own sounds, IF a new song or album came out you KNEW who it was, guitar tone, drumming style, things like that that SEPARATED them from the others playing with them.... For me the Muse only has a singer that makes them different, music wise IF I heard a new Muse song... Nothing to say "Hey that MUST be the new Muse song"... Musically they are GOOD, their music ISN'T bad, it just doesn't stand out from anyone else and generic for me.
songs like this is what separates muse from most bands.
Yes!
Fuck yeah. Totally agree
100%
Gotta respect a rock band that can go from making a hard rock/metal song like Stockholm Syndrome to a quasi-classical piece like this. That’s range.

Definitely Citizen Erased.
I would call Knights of Cydonia for a 10, with no hesitation.
