Honestly I love how the new dialogue not only gives the impression that you're playing as Sonic, but also is faithful to the cartoon, especially having Scratch's iconic laugh inserted into his dialogue. You hear him always have that "Ba-ha-ha-HAAA!" in so many scenes in the show!
You gotta love how all the robots talk to the player as if it’s a first person game, it is Although Sonic’s attitude in the cartoon would perfectly make for a third person talk.
Meanwhile over in sonic spinball we have a weird hybridization of both cartoons with scratch showing up in a bonus stage along with the freedom fighters.

This is awesome. The game would've been made better from a fanservice standpoint had Sonic been acknowledged as the player character instead of that renamed Puyo Puyo character who's the only out-of-place asset in the game despite it being a reskin of his game.
We can remake the game and add Sonic, and yet we still can't put Coconuts at Stage 12? He is way smarter than Scratch and Grounder in the TV series and still deserves to be the penultimate boss!

I don't know if this is a feature in this game or not, but in later Puyo games, if you had a large combo of your own in that situation, it would negate the garbage you have instead of giving it to your opponent. It allows a come back instead of just mercilessly losing. This game is based on Puyo Puyo Tsu, so it follows the mechanics of that game pretty closely.
Nope, Puyo 1 is a "solved game" because there's no counterplay - with two competent players that can build chains quickly, the first one to build a 5-chain loses as the person who starts theirs last will be able to stall longer to keep the garbage from dropping onto the field. They added mechanics in later games to fix that.
Find it odd they re introduce brave of puyo puyo back into MBM DX, but not theme of puyo puyo for the stages, the remixed version is unused in the files

It is a RELIEF that this version actually uses Sonic instead of just renaming a character from Puyo Puyo
It really captures that feeling that you're playing and experiencing an episode of the Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog.
