His son drowned while tubing. The performance you just watched was the first time he sang that song in public. As you could tell he struggled to get through the song. When he walked off stage Ricky Skaggs told him how wonderful the song was. Craig Morgan told him I'm glad that you liked it but I'll Never sing that song again. Ricky told him that people needed to hear that song to help them cope with the loss of a loved one. Many people are glad Craig took that advice.

He did take his advice but he still has only performed it a hand full of times as it's so hard.

I lost my son in 2011 at age 19. I can relate to this song. I know the pain. The pain doesn't go away but it gets manageable. Mr. Morgan thank you!

His performance on the Kelly Clarkson show was heart breaking. He had to stop to sob before he sang the last line.
We had this song played at our sons funeral in 2019 TJ Forever29. This song holds such a special place in my heart .

He's only performed the song live a few times since writing it because it's too difficult for him to get through it. This was recorded pretty soon after the loss. Within a year or two.
I can feel his hurt. He's healing through prayer and music. Broke my heart to feel his pain in this song

Everytime I hear this song my heart skips a beat and I get a shiver over my whole body. Not sometimes. Every stinking time. It's a beautiful song and tribute. I think anyone who's lost a child at any age can relate. Well done sir.

Craig aged 2 decades in the 2 yrs after his son’s death😔 What loving parent wouldn’t? And he’s always been such a standup guy. Career military & family man before he hit the country scene. Still does much for the troops! Some other greats are Almost Home, What I Love About Sundays, God Must Really Love Me, This Ain’t Nothin’.

He served in the military and you can see that as he stands straight and t all. His reference to Uncle Sam is time served not taxes as other channels claimed.

When he came off stage from this performance. Ricky Skaggs told him how much he liked the song Craig said “I’m glad you liked it I’ll never sing it again.” A few of his close friends including Blake Shelton talked him into keep performing it as part of the healing process for himself as well as other parents going through the same situation
So I also lost my dad, and I use this song to help me grieve too. I just change the lyrics to "my father, the Son, and The Holy Ghost". We listen to it a lot around his birthday.

I can relate to this song 😂 lost my son March 5th, 2022 and my dad December 2, 2022! My son died when his house caught on fire, he opened the door to his room and the backdraft got him. The only way I can look at it is the good Lord wanted him more than I did 😂 Love you Allen and daddy RIP. Great reaction 🎉

This song hits me so hard. I lost my son to an IED in Afghanistan just 3 weeks after I retired from a 35 year Army career. The day I got the news I donned my uniform and drove to his twin sisters house to give her the news. She slammed the door in my face and hasn't talked to me since. I lost both my children to an IED. I often wish it was my son telling his sister I was killed.

Hi! I’ve been listening to country music since I was 3. I listen to so many other genres. And country music tells a story. I think it’s a beautiful song. I think you’d love a song Called love wins by Carrie underwood. Or me red white and blue b y Coffey Anderson if you’re feelin patriotic lol. Beers on me by Dierks Bentley and Breland. And I’m the Woulds by breland and chase rice. Also something in the water, little toy guns, mamas song is good (I dedicated it to my mom at my wedding), the bullet is a powerful one, spinning bottles, heartbeat, dirty laundry, church bells all by carrie underwood. Me and my wife lost our son to drunk driver witch was his best friend. He came to pick him up that day and he's mom ask if he was drinking and our son said know. 15 minutes later after leaving home we got the phone call that you never what to here

Craigs song says it all, the depression and lostness that goes along with losing a child. I dont know how he gets thru that song without breaking down.. I couldnt do it. When he talks about being home, home is heaven, and rejoining his son.
