Oh I loved this ....it looks small but it works ...more space as you take us around with the camera it would suit me and my hubby . Thank you for this 😊
Hope one day someone design a fully integrated motorhome this large with a rear loung , a droping bed ,electric hybrid and a large rear door. two belt seats on front and two belt seats on rear loung . the perfect family car
If you put the link on the description you'll get more visits to your web :) Awesome motorhome. I think i'll get something that size, my parking skills can't afford something much bigger hehe
Hi Alan. try a microfibre towel on the dash to collect the condensation much better than going into your wiring behind the dash. works a treat for me. :-)
Hi ALAN. My oldest son ALAN and I are just back from a stay in the Tuscan area of Italy. I too really enjoy being in Italy. You have the same cold floor problems in our house . I too like having at least socks on while walking on the floors. I will look to see where you are now. John
I do like the van, and I do see things that could be improved. The need of ladder is simply due to a construction flaw on the front of the bed. I would prefer a folding table at the front/left end of the kitchen counter. Smart using towels on the floor, as other smart things you do.
You should do an activity videos while in the van. Such as morning routine. Or preparing for dinner. So the challenge are those small spaces. Should be interesting.
Add pray rugs for the floor, that fit. Build fitted tray for bed , use the counter top fold down shelf for extra prep area , thick Turkish rug for the bed during the day , cushion covered in thick canvas , trust me .
How about using the fold up extension on the side of the kitchen counter - better than the floor. Plus the kettle etc could have been placed on top of the glass sink cover - it's made to use that way. Putting pots and kettles on the floor is a hazard and unnecessary.
Hi Alan......enjoying your videos. Some people keep the drivers seat facing forward all the time, just in case you are faced with a situation where you need to leave the location quickly...keep the keys handy as well .
roamer Good point. Maybe they could reverse the layout so you could use the other seat? Or you could take out the other front seat if youre travelling alone for extra space?. Then you could use that door as the main entrance, you would not need the side door and gain even more space?
Alan, how you make your own electricity in this cc? . I have seen a ecovip Laika 305, I like the model but doesn't have a solar panel. Can you explain to me?is ecovip good for winter?
You need to install your own panels on all vans - very few come with panels already fixed. I have not tried the Ecovip so I cannot say but I suspect it would be good!
Hello Alan... About your feet, and comfort warmth. I would get myself a pair of slippers. It might be small RV??? But I seen some room for a pair of slippers!!!
Hi I noticed the extra counter space (fold out) in the kitchen are always quite small and placed in front of the dooropening. Seems very unpractical I never understand why not reverse to door opening to gain that space?
Kitchen sink is not deep enough imo.. Why not build fold out (or up) counter space in front of the window above the sink/corner to keep prepared food or cattle? I wish companies would hire better, more innovative interior designers to maximize small spaces. I noticed bed light above the window. While imo lying with cushions to other side would be more comfortable and you could enjoy the view as well. No lights or 12 v plugs there for phone , tablet and laptop either? Who designs these rvs? So often they totally lack common sense!
I agree that the lights should be at the other side. In fact I think that they should be at both sides because we never want to lie with our feet above our heads yet sometimes we end up parked this way.
Hi Alan. Thank you for the posts. I just watched a video on living at Tirol area of Austria and could see how beautiful the Alps are in the winter. Since you are in CH I am looking forward to seeing the beautiful countryside. Please eat an extra slice of Swiss cheese for me because it is my favorite type. The small van seems doable for one person. Two might be a squeeze. John
Sorry for the delay in responding due to UA-cam making responses difficult although I saw your message this morning - but could not respond. Response as per Richard above but here it is, copied and pasted! There is a big difference between the two but I cannot say that one is better than the other. I have driven various vehicles so think that I am in a position to compare the two. First of all, the Fiat is much lighter, more delicate to the touch, more responsive. I think the engine is quieter and burns less fuel. The Mercedes has a more 'chunky' feel to it, takes longer to kick in but at the end of the day you know it is a Mercedes and it will get you there. If I had to choose, it may well come down to price or service.
Thank you for the reply. The reason I ask is that our last van was a Ford Transit Duetto. This was a great drive, so much better than our previous Fiats. Unfortunately our Duetto was stolen and we are looking for a replacement. Hence the Mercedes question, is it worth the extra. Probably not as you imply.
In a small van like this it may be suitable, in a larger van I think not. If you want an automatic then it may be the route. Sorry to give an inconclusive reply!
what country are u in and how much was the hymer? 2 or 3 feet longer would be best eh? the faucet is not tall enough and sink is not deep enough. u forgot the counter extension by the side door. what would it hurt if the shower/bathroom was just one foot longer and one foot wider? most people who buy the rvs are not little kids. sinks in bathrooms are stupid. the kitchen sink is only 3 feet away.
I used the sink in the kitchen with this vehicle too. To make the shower any bigger, the forward seats would have to go - which perhaps is not such a bad idea. I think the shower though is a good size, even if cramped. Remember it is only 565cm long.
Nice place you've got there !!! How about a little cat to keep you company (you can adopt) and put it's litter box on the passengers side floor. I've seen it done a hundred times, Unless you're not fond of Animals . But great video 😀👍👍👍
As far as I can tell the fuel consumption is greater than 10 litres per 100km. As for maximum speed, I don't know. Anything I have done was comfortable. I understand what you mean though as sometimes whereas the vehicle can do it, it feels a bit odd above a certain speed. The thing is that one does not buy a camper van to go fast!
Hi Alan.. Did you ever review the Auto-sleepers Stratford van conversion.. There not built anymore but we bought one back in 2011 and find it pretty much suits our needs for such a small van (5.4m) reminds me a lot of this van :)
Alan Heath I’d like to thank you because had I not found you super channel I didn’t know I had all these options. Also the axiom carado by Hymer is the layout I’m looking towards as my number one , that being said you have giving me the best of the European style

Thanks for watching Craig but with all due respect I have entitled this video Winter Camping .... I have not used the words tour or review in the title. I have a degree in linguistics and am careful to use accurate titles. I should really have been a lawyer as I can argue on words!! I have talked about storage, water, power on other films!
Id also like to know how the MB compares with the Fiat; I hired one, automatic, and was not impressed- not a proper MB auto of course. Do let us know. Love the videos keep them coming

"highend"interior, for your hanging needs you could probably do a thin tension bar or even a thin cloths-line rope behind the drivers seats right across the whole van , but then u may have to use side door depends on how much u hang , also you may be able to remove the ladder and get nice wooden 2 drawer or even plastic tote use as steps but they would extra storage when not in use u could set in the shower area , you could maybe mount a slimline 24' tv behind your long bench seat, turn drivers seat to watch, sink area for knives see if u can get a strip magnet and see if you can find the small round magnetic spice holders Iam german as well and I know we like to cook lol best of luck & just have fun
Hi Alan. I realize that -8 to -13C is very cold for any motorhome, but how do you sort out a 4.5 liter per day burn rate? If the S500 carries say 22 liters, that's a tank every 5 days? Of course, you're using the vehicle heater when moving and when wild camping, have no electric. I would assume that you supplement in pitches with electric with maybe a ceramic brick heater, etc. I enjoy "off the cord, wild" winter camping and am trying to understand whether you're using garage space to carry extra LPG or just staying close to LPG sources. Thanks for any advice on practical tips to stay warm.
I saw a truck with an Albanian flag on it and I was recording with my GoPro so I'll upload it on my channel later lol and now I'm watching this video and there's something about Albania again lol what the?! Ow and I'm Albanian lmao just saying.
Very good point, that is a frequent problem in most vans. I had a situation last year in a different van where the dirty water exit was frozen, I drove 200km by which time it was so cold in the van that the shower water I had used that morning also froze and whereas that unfroze once the heating was turned on, it did not go out! In this van that is not a problem as it is fully winterised!
@@VanlifewithAlan yeah cause I live alone and I'm not physically in shape for fixing stuff like that or getting to and I need cell phone and internet coverage like 100 percent of the time plus the freezing up on the rv issues and noise from rain are all very critical to me earning a living traveling so I was going to try and travel around the weather situation as much as I can but I know there will be these issues some ware along travels so I'm asking around. Great help
you have fuel costs, Parking costs, maintenance costs, insurance costs, food costs, and he says he owns a home so there are taxes and maintenance costs on that also. if he is doing this mostly full time them either he is wealthy or is earning income while on the road.
George Herman you don't need to be wealthy to live full time in a van, I'm a million miles from being wealthy...i have a budget of €80 and I can easily live on €50 a week and often less than that as I just drift from aire to aire around France, I don't do many miles a week but I'm in no rush so I don't have to, I'm only 51 and saved up hard over 5 years so I could get a brand new van and gave enough to last me until I get my state pension, so if I can do it then so can anyone....
Alan Heath A great van. I travel for months in a low roof short wheelbase trafic van conversion, so that looks huge in comparison. I always enjoyed your Videos...keep them coming... cheers dave
I’m very sorry, but I have to say, this is probably the worst way of utilizing the so-called “586 cm” of a van. The layout is ridiculous and it appears totally unpractical ... putting things on the floor, cause there’s no space, or packing things from one side to another to utilize the shower, etc. This would be pure stress to me ... and here it certainly comes with a big pricetag. This high price is because everything build into this van is completely overpriced and overrated in the first place (see & listen to those brandnames). BUT some customers seem to like it that way - obviously you haven"t looked at other options or given it some your own thoughts of a better design.
Whatever I do it is wrong! If I say my opinion, people complain, and if I don't people complain. My first review on this van was negative and after taking it out I changed my mind. I think it is an excellent van and the price of a tiny footprint is moving things around! Thanks for your opinion though!!
i want the life you're living man..post more videos of the s500! what an awesome van
Your wish is my command - I shall put up some more films of the S500 this week!
THE BEST walkthrough of this particular model EVER. Mercedes-Benz has a gifted commercial here!!
Thank you very much! Let Mercedes know!
More Hymer than Mercedes, since it's largely their efforts shown on video here, not of the cab or engine
I thought my Casita 17' FD was small! But it is the layout that makes it worth it.
Oh I loved this ....it looks small but it works ...more space as you take us around with the camera it would suit me and my hubby . Thank you for this 😊
You speak of the van being nicely warm. How does it keep cool in summertime? Is there an AC? What powers the AC?

I have tried - will be posted before long!
perfect size and set up for me and my dog. They have started selling Hymer in Canada but not sure if they have any of this size yet.
I will see if I can find out for you David. I am due to see people from Hymer this week.
Add pray rugs for the floor, that fit. Build fitted tray for bed , use the counter top fold down shelf for extra prep area , thick Turkish rug for the bed during the day , cushion covered in thick canvas , trust me .

This guys bonkers but I love it. Def explore other options for kettle and pan other than floor. Thx

I love the van I don't know where you are but not in America wish that type was here. Peace
You wont see that in America Suzanne. This is Germany!
Hi Alan......enjoying your videos.

Very good question John. I have not got enough experience with the Alde to make a fair comparison - lets wait for an answer to that one!
Blimey that's more compact than my van522
What about cooking smells inside the van? Is there an extractor fan above the stove?
No, there is not but that is always a problem in vans. I have one in my van and it does not seem to make any difference!

I would rather use the table!
Great video again :) Is this your new van Alan ?
I wish it were! I only had it on loan!
Shame it looks really good. I am looking for a small van at the moment as I do not want to lug round a huge vehicle
18.5 ft is still too long cut down to 16 ft would fit in a parking space.
Fuck all these commercials!!! Damn UA-cam Google.. You destroyed UA-cam!!!!
Hi Alan.. Did you ever review the Auto-sleepers Stratford van conversion.. There not built anymore but we bought one back in 2011 and find it pretty much suits our needs for such a small van (5.4m) reminds me a lot of this van :)
Hello Ian. I have never done anything fom Auto Sleepers - they do not seem to exhibit much! At 540cm you can park it like a car!
Sorry Pal your Mains Cable should be fully unrolled Safety dont you know can heat up under certain conditions just saying.
Absolutely right Phillip and I go round telling people the same. Go round telling everyone! Here I was off grid.
Is it rear wheel drive too?
front
Ur van is great but it must be very expensive i defintly cannot afford it.just watching for fun
How long would a gas bottle last on 21 degrees for 24 hours solid? How much is a gas bottle?
A gas bottle running the heater on max all the time will last 67 hours.
Can you drive it to the states for me I want to buy it
Roadtrek might be able to supply it!
Alan Heath
I’d like to thank you because had I not found you super channel I didn’t know I had all these options. Also the axiom carado by Hymer is the layout I’m looking towards as my number one , that being said you have giving me the best of the European style
Perfect size for a lone camper!

nice camper ,what is the internal width?
External width is 222cm so internal must be just over two metres.
Don't like the design, central shower is a barrier to living space. Bed should be blowup air bed. A Slide out section would also make more room.
You don't get many slide outs in Europe. Here is a very rare example : ua-cam.com/video/MIk0_JWHLoQ/v-deo.html
I wish have one
looks quite warm, how about real winter?
Go away.
firts I need to know, if this car is good enough for that.
It was minus 13C. Is that not real enough for you?
Too many commercials, but nice camper.
You can't fit bicycles in the garage?
No, they must go on the outside!
Id drive into water then get into bed lol
How do you heat, Standheizung?
Truma i Net. Around 4.5 litres of LPG per day in this weather in this van.
Okay.
Alan Heath is this truma i Net like an espar heater in the US

Bad morning Alan?
No, that was a really good morning!
Well said. Is the heating gas? Maybe add solar?
How much is this van Alan?
This one is around EUR80k!
I like your van a lot. You must be rather wealthy to afford such a lifestyle.

kettle on the floor ..
It is where I usually keep it when the van is moving.

What was the actual temperature outside in °C?
Here I don't think it dropped below -3C. However a couple of days earlier it was -13C. In the van, I did not feel it.
14° ???? Are you kidding me? You must be wearing 3 layers of sweaters and a winter coat inside the van
That is centigrade not farenheit!
14° C is awfully cold!
