Hey, Courtney! This is one of the best sequels ever made! Fortunately, you saw the superior SPECIAL EDITION which has the Amanda Ripley scene, the functioning colony scene, Newt's family's discovery of the derelict ship scene, the automated gun scene, the Hudson speculation about queen ants scene and the name exchange scene. The SPECIAL EDITION is the version both James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver prefer. The future Ripley inhabits is implied to be a dystopic corporatocracy. The most pervasive and powerful corporate entity is the Weyland-Yutani Company, a 22nd-century version of the British East India Company of the 17th- to 19th-centuries. It is a multinational conglomerate involved in robotics, interstellar transport and terraforming with a stake in every colony world. The Company is the TRUE VILLAIN of the Alien universe. Ash and Burke were following a secret corporate mandate to obtain a xenomorph specimen in order to profit from research and weaponization. The colonists who venture beyond the compound like Newt's parents are prospectors who can lay a claim to any discovery they make. The Company would get a large percentage of the find but the colonist would own a piece. A valuable ore would mean a fortune! After Burke heard Ripley's story, he contacted the colony boss to dispatch someone to the coordinates Ripley had indicated in her report with no warning of danger. He must have done a little digging and found out about the Company Directive to investigate any possible sign of intelligent life and to bring back a specimen. He sent Newt's family straight to the derelict ship. Neither Hicks nor Apone were treating Ripley in a sexist manner when she offered to help prep. They regarded her as a civilian. They were both accustomed to females in their unit such as medic Dietrich, pilot Ferro and heavy-gunner Vasquez. When she demonstrates her proficiency with the loader, they were laughing good-naturedly at her bravado and their own underestimation of her abilities. Some trivia: The picture of Ripley's elderly daughter in the Special Edition is actually Sigourney Weaver's real-life mother! The late Al Matthews, who played Sgt. Apone, was a true-blue Marine who was the first black man to be promoted to Sergeant in the Corps during his service in Vietnam! The knife-trick scene was originally supposed to be performed by Lance Henriksen alone but he convinced director James Cameron to surprise Bill Paxton by involving him as they shot the scene! Paxton's wide-eyed terror is completely real! Fan favorite Vasquez is played by non-Hispanic Jenette Goldstein! She goes out like a warrior and enables Gorman to reclaim his honor. Ms. Goldstein now is the proprietress of a Los Angeles-based boutique that specializes in bespoke large-size bras! The motto of her company is, "At Jenette's, the alphabet begins with 'D'."! Bishop's programming to not harm humans or allow them to come to harm through inaction is ripped straight from Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics! Carrie Henn, who played Newt, never acted again but became a schoolteacher. She still maintains a correspondence relationship with Sigourney Weaver thirty-six years later. The late Bill Paxton, who has the distinction of being attacked on screen by an Alien, a Terminator and a Predator, will NEVER be forgotten for his reading of the line, "Why don't you put HER in charge?", referring to little Newt in her oversized helmet. Lol. "ALIEN 3: ASSEMBLY CUT" is a DIVISIVE film but it's an EXCELLENT entry in the series. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU SEE IT!!! Many will try to dissuade you but it is ESSENTIAL VIEWING! It's directed by David Fincher and features Charles Dance and Charles Dutton. It's brutal, fast-paced, has a solid cast, has some extraordinary scares, provides new insight into the creature, presents a fascinating dilemma and concludes the trilogy elegantly. I strongly encourage you NOT TO SKIP IT! Make sure you see the ASSEMBLY CUT (Special Edition with longer runtime). It is available on Prime, Redbox and right here on YT. "Alien Resurrection" is the optional one because it's a hot mess except for one cool aquatic sequence. The ambitious prequels, "Prometheus" and "Covenant", mark director Ridley Scott's return to the series but they are mostly good JUST for Michael Fassbender's performances. Scott demystifies the creature and unsatisfyingly attempts to address who the elephant-headed pilot of the derelict spacecraft was. If you intend to see the "ALIEN vs. PREDATOR" films, then you need to acquaint yourself with the PREDATOR franchise. The first is an action classic with Schwarzenegger. Danny Glover's underrated urban-set "PREDATOR 2" features some memorable set pieces. Dark Horse comics explored the crossover concept inspiring Hollywood to make two crossover films with moderately successful to excellent results. They're fun and exciting guilty pleasures with the second one, "ALIENS vs. PREDATOR: REQUIEM", being particularly lean and mean. There is also a "PREDATORS" film produced by Robert Rodriguez that is definitely worth a look. "THE PREDATOR" (2018) REBOOT, however, nearly killed the franchise and should be approached with a great deal of trepidation! So many great actors in this. I wouldn't call this better than the first one. It is an action movie where the first was a horror movie and while it retains some horror elements it's a very different film.
A thought about why she encountered so few aliens in the hive - the ones that were there (the one by Newt, the ones guarding the queen) were stationed there. The rest who survived the encounters with the Marines were still over at the main colony complex - remember the mass of them that the motion tracker picked up when they were trying to get to Newt. But then Ripley and company got onto the dropship and did an end run all the way back to the nest in the Atmosphere processor. The remaining horde are probably still digging through the colony trying to find them, leaving Ripley with a nearly clear path to Newt (and the Queen).
Also considering the first fight in the hive and the auto turrets and the fight in command and control there probably arent that many aliens left 20-30 maybe which explains only 4 remaining in the hive to protect the queen while what few remain are in the colony complex
Some trivia for Aliens - * The f-word (and its derivatives) are used 25 times... 18 are from Hudson. * Al Matthews, who plays the cigar-chomping Sgt Apone, was the first black US Marine to be meritoriously promoted to sergeant in Vietnam... so he really was a sergeant. * Jeanette Goldstein, who plays Vasquez, initially thought she was auditioning for a movie about migrant workers, and turned up dressed the part. This inspired the "illegal alien" joke from Hudson. * Bill Paxton mostly improvised his memorable lines... mostly. * In the scene where Newt slides down the chute during the escape... Carrie Henn thought it was so much fun she kept laughing instead of screaming. Cameron basically said, "give me one good take, and then you can play on it for the rest of the day." * The photo of Ripley's daughter, is actually of Weaver's mother. * At the film's premiere, Paul Reiser's sister physically struck him because his character, Burke, was so contemptible. * This was the first "futuristic-setting" movie to feature regular (albeit advanced) firearms rather than ray-guns. Cool Trivia: When James Cameron was casting for the role of Newt, most of the child actors that auditioned for the role gave a very bubbley, smiley performance. Then Carrie Henn came in and gave a very serious, realistic audition of a child suffering from PTSD..... Cameron virtually hired her on the spot. 👍
And Ripley and Newt slept all the way home and when they got there Hicks, Ripley, Newt And Jonesy the cat formed a big happy family and lived happily ever after. THE END They never made another alien movie 🙈🙊🙉 LALALA I can't hear you They never made another movie the end.
Hey, Courtney! The giant fossilized skeleton from "Alien" was the pilot known to fandom as the space jockey. It was a victim of its cargo as its rib cage was ruptured outwards by a chestburster after being impregnated by a facehugger! Dallas examined the corpse for the audience to foreshadow what was to come. The being represents a third species besides xenomorphs and humans and has always remained a great mystery of the franchise. Dark Horse Comics provided their own back story about the jockey while Ridley Scott provided his own explanation in the prequel "Prometheus" which met with some controversy by fandom. The Queen is first introduced in this movie. Please do continue with "ALIEN 3" even though many viewers will loudly protest. It is ESSENTIAL VIEWING and a very interesting film that adds to the lore. Like "Aliens", see the SPECIAL EDITION sometimes called the ASSEMBLY CUT as it is closest to director David Fincher's original vision. Reserve judgment and come to your own conclusions. Even if you dislike it, a negative reaction can be equally entertaining. The SPECIAL EDITION of "ALIEN 3" is on Prime, Redbox and YT.
Third Officer Ripley has been found and returned to Gateway station. What will the Weyland-Yutani Suits make of her blowing up the "Nostromo"? I bought the Special Edition Laserdisc(!) in 1990 and it answered a question about Ripley I'd had since 1986. The extra footage added an extra layer of story and Pathos to this Action movie. 9:14 Sgt. Apone and Cpl. Hicks see that Ripley isn't a "front office paper shuffler" like Burke, but a working class dog like themselves. 14:18 Ripley "gets close quickly" to Rebecca, unlike the female Colonial Marines. A reviewer of the time passed it off as: "Sisterhood!" The SE version confirmed my suspicion that Ripley had been a parent. 18:26 Vasquez had spare Fire Control Units, and passed one to Drake so they could function as Squad Support "when the chips were down." 25:41 The Manual of Arms. 30:38 They went out like Klingon warriors. 32:08 The right tool for the job, with Duck tape. 32:22 The "Ellen and Dwayne" exchange made my day. 33:52 The egg chamber. 34:30 The Space Jockey was as different a species from the Xenomorphs as they are from Humans. 36:41 It's not over yet. 37:30 Ellen Ripley's speech to present day "girl bosses." Sigourney Weaver has said that "Aliens" was all about Guns; I thought it was all about Family. Ridley Scott's vision of "the 'Alien Prequels'' is as dim as Lt. Gorman's mind.
Aliens is one of the 3 best movie sequels ever made. Its right up there with Terminator 2 and The Godfather Part II. I personally consider Aliens to be the greatest sci-fi film ever made. Its a shame that Sigourney Weaver didnt win Best Actress for Aliens. Her Ellen Ripley is one of the greatest, most iconic female characters ever put on film. Shes right up there with Sarah Connor in Cameron's own Terminator 2 and Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind
If, as the colonist at the beginning says, they can send a message and get an answer in 2 weeks, then they have faster than light radio, since the nearest other solar system must be several light years away. They have faster than light (FTL) ships and FTL radio.
The indeed do have FTL communications in the Alien franchise.. though it might be faster than implied in this movie as the "two weeks to get a response" is probably including a very long delay due to bureaucracy with any message sent from the colony have to go through 58 people before it lands on someone competent to answer and then it has to go through another 78 stamps and forms before the reply of "idk" is sent back :D
Us older folks get a kick out of watching young ladies reacting to Ripley. 1980s didn't have cancel culture and toxic movie critics. BTW. Back in the day you had to sit in the theater and scream out loud. Was a great time. Have subscribed. Remind me of me granddaughters
James Cameron, not involved with the third movie, did not like Aliens3 nor did about half the audience (judging by online opinions which is divided to be fair). It's not a bad horror flick by itself but the worst part is the spirit of it is not matching the first 2 movies. Frankly, the third movie crapped all over the second movie so I could see why Cameron would react negatively. It wasn't a Cameron ego thing because I hated the third movie as well for very good reasons (which I can't say because spoilers.)
If you’re as big a fan as I am then I HIGHLY suggest you read the novels. They are officially canon to the franchise as well. Start with “Out of the Shadows,” which takes place in the 57 year gap between Alien and Aliens. The books deserved to be movies all on their own and are really stellar.
The BIG GUY SKELETON in Alien was not an Alien Queen, he was a victim, just like John Hurt was in Alien (just a bigger fella - same fate). The Space Jockey- a big fella, felled by the Alien in the same way, thousands of years earlier. We still have not found the Homeworld of the Aliens, for the Space Jockey was just transporting the eggs and landed on the rock the two movies take place at.
Honestly, at this point, if you haven't already seen them, I would suggest: Predator (1987) Predator 2 (1990). Three cheers for the always awesome Danny Glover! And keep your eyes open. ;D Alien vs. Predator (2004) Predators (2010) and leave it at that (because I do believe a couple of fundamental plot elements in Alien 3 would really annoy you), though kudos to oxhine here for writing up such an excellent timeline summary of the various releases and thus at least giving you an idea of what there is, likewise to FuzzyLogic for the fair point that even though it's likely most of us posting here might say we don't much like Alien 3 and wouldn't recommend it, nevertheless your *reaction* to it may indeed be most entertaining, which is of course the whole point of the channel. Afterall, if we only cared about the films themselves then we'd simply watch our preferred titles directly, not someone's reaction to them. The whole appeal of reaction channels is seeing something so familiar through the eyes of someone new to the subject matter, or indeed perhaps someone becoming enraged by the same things which bugged us upon initial viewing. So I guess it's up to you really. Toss a coin? :) Perhaps the biggest downside to the Alien sequels from 3 onwards is the way they kinda degrade the whole idea of the alien, moving away from what one might consider a sort of lethal beauty of precisely the kind that natural selection could produce in harsh places (see sharks, hehe), just like the creatures in Pitch Black, towards something which is just ugly and perpetually immersed in what looks like sewer filth (Alien Resurrection). But perhaps the merit of reaction can only stretch so far, eg. I don't think I could even sideways tolerate watching Prometheus again (saw it at the cinema, 2 hours I can never get back), or the yawnfest 2007 AvPR film set in the small US town (wha were they thinking). By contrast, I've lost count of how many times I've seen Predator 1 & 2, I think 2004's AvP holds up pretty well, and Predator added a nice psych aspect to the whole concept of what constitutes a creature which kills so easily. Oh, definitely recommend Pitch Black if you've not already seen it. The sequel is a kinda middling, has its moments I guess, but the 3rd (Riddick) is great.
Yes... continue! While the studio really crapped all over the director and production of Alien 3 while it was being filmed, the director still managed to turn in a decent sequel given what he had to work with. Pre-production decisions were made, initially due to the amount of time it took to first get the ball a rolling, that forced a guaranteed negative audience reaction which almost critically doomed the film. The outcome (and logical outcome) of the tone presents a more melancholic, sober type of horror film; but, it is still impressive to look at. That being said, the director's assembly cut is far better than the theatrical release, I might add. All-in-all,, i do like each of the Alien films... for different reasons.
Considering the era that this was filmed in, the use of Paul Reiser was a terrific choice for Burke. He, like Tom Hanks, were considered the near-epitome of nice guy characters and actors appearing on tv and film. That Burke was actually a vile creep came as a bit of a shocker to audiences when the film was first released.
If you Want to know more about Newt and are curious as to what happened. Type in Newts tale and videos will pop up and you can see what happen in the comic's but it does explain. Otherwise Alien theory does a lot of videos on the subject.
I don't get why people are so dead set on the "only good movies make for good reactions" mind set. Even if the movies past Aliens aren't great they might still make for entertaining reactions.
I hope you continue with Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection!!! They are not as bad as people say they are. If you don't mind decent sci fi/horror stories not really structured like "pop culture action blockbusters", the remaining Alien movies should be just fine. Hopefully you will also react to the first 3 Predator Movies, Prey, and Alien vs. Predator.
I HATED the theatrical version of "Alien3," but the Assembly Cut sorta works for me. As for the later "After 'Prometheus'-Alien movies," I think of them like the "Star Wars" Prequel series; fan fiction-level cash grabs and NOT Canon.
Planet is too big the ship is in a certain area they didn't have the location until Ripley woke up and gave them the location and Burk sent them to the location, so that's how they didn't find anything at first after all those years, so for a long time that's why they didn't find it until now.
Don't continue the rest, they are money grabs and do not seriously contain anything that would of or could of happened especially with the diligence of Ripley.
This is one of the cases where "better" is subjective cause you could say it's a better film overall and probably be right or you say it's a better action movie, but that alien was a better horror movie.
Skip "Alien 3" and "Alien Resurrection" or watch them on your own time. But you should react to "Prometheus" and "Alien Covenant", both prequels to "Alien".
Nah, there would be a guy like that for sure, probably you, but the rest of the adults would actually have to do something and get something done, just like any war in human history, not saying they would all survive but they would and have had that instinct to grin and bear it and do what needs to be done. Death be damned.
FYI, if you love these characters, avoid watching Alien 3 at all cost. If you love good movies, avoid Alien 3. Dont listen to the fanboys. Both versions of Alien 3 are a big waste of time. They destroy all three main characters in Aliens. They replace Newt and Hicks with the most unlikable characters imaginable. Heck, some of them even try to assault Ripley. And we're supposed to care if they live or die? No f**king way. In the same movie, Ripley spreads eagle for the first ex-con she sees. WTF? Alien 3 only succeeds in undermining and destroying everything Cameron established with Aliens. One more thing. The creators of Alien 3 showed absolutely no originality by making an Alien born from an ox. They had an opportunity to give us an Alien with horns and the makers of Alien 3 totally blew it.
This film is really Too Different to say whether it's better than 'Alien' or not. Alien is a straight-up Horror Film. 'Aliens' is primarily an action movie. It was not a bog-standard copy of the 1st film which was way, way too common for 'sequels' in that era. This film doesn't have the two head-bangingly dumb plot elements of the 1st film (except by inheritance). That being the So-Fast-it-may-as-well-be-magic, growth rate of the Xenomorph and Parker suddenly becoming a Moron and committing suicide for no reason other than the story demanded 'sole survivor' over story coherence. It does however have a bizzare element that exists because Cameron decided to ignore established lore for the sake of 'kewl' (The Alien Queen). Which while it's a great few scenes, is completely nonsensical. During Ripley's interrogation, she says, 'Kane said he saw thousands of eggs there (on the alien ship), Thousands.' THAT is where she thinks all the potential Aliens will come from, and she's absolutely right. However, because Cameron had to take the threat to 11, while they are holing up in the Command Center, she says that the aliens are taking people back to the Terraformer so they can be hosts. She then asks- 'So who's laying these eggs?' Whuh? WHY would she say this? The entire IDEA of 'laying eggs' would never have occurred to her. Logically, she would say they were taking the humans back to the SHIP, where the only location of any known Eggs are. The Xenomorph was originally an artificial lifeform, as much 'Built' (The Endoskeleton was an intentional suit of organic Power Armor, like Iron Man), as grown. They were NOT INSECTS, that was just an element of their construction. As with 'Alien', the film is still so good it just drives right over these issues, squishing them in its frentic enthusiasm.
ALIEN 3 is a tough choice. The original, theatrical version is a total waste of time. The so-called Assembly Cut is a much better film, and worth seeing on its own terms, but be warned that many, many people hate the film for how it handles its beloved characters. I respect the Assembly Cut, but I can certainly understand why many viewers would have preferred that ALIEN 3 not exist at all, in any form.
Sorry, but both versions of Alien 3 are a big waste of time. They destroy all three main characters in Aliens. They replace Newt and Hicks with the most unlikable characters imaginable. Heck, some of them even try to assault Ripley. And we're supposed to care if they live or die? No f**king way. And in the same movie, Ripley spreads eagle for the first ex-con she sees. WTF? And they showed absolutely no originality by making an Alien born from an ox.
Well girl I see you read my comments im Alien but still didnt follow what i told you to do. Watch ""PROMETHEUS" before this one. Oh well . Your not special I tell all other UA-camrs this and no no listen either. This was more action/horror when the other was Horror /suspense. No it wasn't the fossilized queen OMG.!! Go and watch Prometheus and be sure you get the Fully deleted audio on conversation between David and the Engineer. Its here on youtube. and run it as an add on. You will learn so much more about the Aliens, The Weyland Company. In Prometheus David is the first robot. Ash was the second generation and Bishop is the third generation robot. The Sequel to Prometheus is Alien Covenant which is so/so. As far as Alien 3, resurection they are junk. other fans will disagree. I will give you a like you have gotten better about picking ket scenes, but you still talk too much while watching. Ok onto Prometheus!
Miss, I love your reactions. You are thoughtful and intelligent. I look forward to watching youreact to others. Try going back to others like "The Birds," The poseidon Advdnture or " The Exorcist?"
"Have you ever been mistaken for a man?"
"No, have you?"
lmao lmao 😂🤣😂
One of the best movie "Burns"
Got to see the original when it hit theaters back in July 86 at only 4 years old. Holy SHEET what a rollercoaster ride!!
The giant alien in the first movie wasn't a queen or even the same species, but actually a victim as it showed signs of a chest-burster alien.
Yes many refer to it as "The Pilot", though it could just as easily be "The Navigator", "The Communications officer", or maybe even "The Janitor".
Yes, it was just the pilot of the crashed ship where the crew of the Nostromo found it's alien cargo.
yes the Space Jockey - I posted above repeating your words before i saw your post. sorry to have repeated what you said here. ;-/.
Have to watch Prometheus for the back story of the “Space Jockey, that Courtney calls “The Fossil”

Alas the alien franchise is a good example of quitting while you're ahead. You can quit watching the franchise now and not miss anything significant.
Totally agreed. It ends here and has a happy ending.

Good reaction, Courtney! I love this movie.
oh deer .. if only she knew what awaits her in the final part ..
what final part ? there are only 2 alien movies.. no.. i said.. THERE ARE ONLY TWO!!! :D
Great sequel.
Great movie
And Ripley and Newt slept all the way home and when they got there Hicks, Ripley, Newt And Jonesy the cat formed a big happy family and lived happily ever after. THE END
They never made another alien movie
🙈🙊🙉 LALALA I can't hear you They never made another movie the end.
😂
If you didn't know, Bill Paxton did not know he would be participating in the knife trick, so his screams and panic were real.
I, for one, absolutely HATED the third film.
Honestly, at this point, if you haven't already seen them, I would suggest:
Predator (1987)
Predator 2 (1990). Three cheers for the always awesome Danny Glover! And keep your eyes open. ;D
Alien vs. Predator (2004)
Predators (2010)
and leave it at that (because I do believe a couple of fundamental plot elements in Alien 3 would really annoy you), though kudos to oxhine here for writing up such an excellent timeline summary of the various releases and thus at least giving you an idea of what there is, likewise to FuzzyLogic for the fair point that even though it's likely most of us posting here might say we don't much like Alien 3 and wouldn't recommend it, nevertheless your *reaction* to it may indeed be most entertaining, which is of course the whole point of the channel.
Perhaps the biggest downside to the Alien sequels from 3 onwards is the way they kinda degrade the whole idea of the alien, moving away from what one might consider a sort of lethal beauty of precisely the kind that natural selection could produce in harsh places (see sharks, hehe), just like the creatures in Pitch Black, towards something which is just ugly and perpetually immersed in what looks like sewer filth (Alien Resurrection).
Hello Courtney your doing great❤
I hope you continue with Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection!!!
3 is ok, different but it should have been the last. The rest are scraping the barrel 😕.
Don’t watch Aliens 3. Trust me, just do not. Stop here.
There is no point in blaming Hudson for his behavior because we would all react the same way in that situation.
Ripley wouldn’t have left the planet had she not rescued Newt.
As for the sequels to this… I’m just not a fan at all, though AVP is a strong effort.
Just don't watch any of the sequels. Protect your brain!
Now, stop there, no need to watch any more of this amazing franchise, it ends here.
Still waiting for Episode 3
No the big fossilized thing in the chair is the humanoid person, who made not only humans but the Aliens as well. They were like Gods.
But I don’t understand, I thought that Jennifer Lawrence was the first female lead in an action movie?😆

I'm laughing because you said you think they'll have a nice life together. And in the third installment she's killed
