Thanks, we see plenty of rusted parts in Scotland. Appreciate the advice.. Subscribed.
cheers dude. just watch a few vids about the same thing and yours was the best with most info. nice
I snipped the cotter pin, and then used a 25" breaker bar after soaking the castle nut in some liquid wrench. Worked like a charm
Klowny love the video man ! Your vids helped me alot over the years !
Take it easy.
Dan from UK.
I am embarrassed to say how much time I spent getting the first one out, yikes. I can't thank you enough. Keep the videos coming. I would like to contribute to your work? Also I like your none PC sense of humor!!!
Yes, sometimes it takes time..no need to be embarrassed lol..thank you for wanting to contribute..you can buy a shirt here if you'd like: teespring.com/stores/klowny1969
Great idea's. Thank you. Its always the tie rod that gets buggered up. Murphys law 😂
Love the rust belt. Cotter pin won't budge and isn't corroded enough to shear. Pissed. Just ordered a MOOG outer tie rod to replace it. Gonna cut off the castle nut.
Just saved me so much trouble
Thank you sir!
Shearing it off with a socket and breaker ba did the trick for me. Thanks road salt.
Good vid man. Glad to see the clown is back in the garage after a long cold winter!
I had to do the same thing but I can't find/see where the remains of it as re but there are a few flat spots that look like it may be it and need to remove it as it is in the output shaft on a diff so may put the nut back on to try and help me push/find where it is without damaging the threads
This was really helpful
So I'm trying to put the nut back on but the thread is spinning too, how do I put it on?
At the end of the video he uses the pry bar to put pressure on the stud so it doesn't move. Make sure the stud is clean so the nut goes in easier. I used to have this problem when changing ball joints.
Doing this tie rod end replacement on my 07 Ford fusion (minnesota driven) and its rusted to shit. I thought about using my impact, but I'm like "nah ain't no way that's gonna work" back down to the garage!
Plenty of clown to go around haha. I like these videos, with simple tips that people don't always think of.
Solid tips, man.
Ya that works when there's little rust. But things get a lot more rusty around here.
I hear ya..I'm in New york. The rust capital of the world..don't forget to subscribe
@@klowny1969 Me too upstate. Just had to plasma cut off the stud on a perfectly good ball joint because the installed the cotter pin front to back......no way to get a punch in from the back to knock out the bits.
thx, used the drill, mine was stuck it the stud after the bolt came off.
at home? no impact gun? won't punch out? tight space ball joint with the top inaccessible? threads stripped after this method not working? Get out the hack saw and spend an hour sawing through the to of each ball joint bolt.
Not everyone has an oxy actylene set up but that's option number 4.
Nice gardening video
What about heat?
I know not on the ball joint. The tip of the stud where the pin is. The castle nut and knuckle should suck up heat before it gets too close to the boot and ball joint.
If the replacement ball joint comes with a new nut then just use a cutoff wheel on the nut !
Can’t get a socket on the nut I got right now. I’ve bent 3 punched and my needle noses! This pin is stuck!
Oh.....don't I feel dumb. Never would've thought of using impact gun....
May go with using a drill bit though...
I recommend using the bit if you don’t wanna strip the nut
We call them Split pins. Our Cotter pins are solid usually tapered. Bicycle cranks used to have solid cotter pins.
👍🏻
Thank you for this! I assumed it would ruin the castle nut if I tried this.
The split pin would not be stuck if you fitted it correctly in the first place.
Thanks bro now i can move past that god damned castle nut
Cotter pins are the stupidest invention known to man.
Ur right! You just gave me an idea to invent something better!! Thanks man ..also don't forget to subscribe
Agreed. What the heck is an impact gun though? Colloquial way of saying impact wrench?
That's a split pin not a cotter pin
We call them cotter pins in the united states. Thanks for watching and commenting. Don't forget to subscribe 😉
👍🏻
thats a split pin not a cotter pin
LOL in my parts it's a cotter pin..and i think for the majority of the world as well..dont forget to subscribe
I was frustrated with a broken cotter pin on a lower ball joint (still on vehicle) and your video gave me a simple easy solution to removing it. Thanks for sharing Klowny. (7 years later) :)
Awesome! Glad I was able to help!
