Unsafe but Overlooked Maintenance - How to Torque Motorcycle Spokes

  • Many riders rarely or never check spoke tightness (I'm guilty of this one), but if your spokes get loose, handling gets terrible and it makes your bike really unsafe.
    All you need to test and tighten is a spoke wrench, a piece of steel, and some all-thread.

    The mountain bike I had in college had the spokes loosen up, and the brake pads rubbed on the rim so much it wore through the paint. I guess I learned a lesson!

    The key is here is don't let them get that loose and you can use the tapping method to stay on top of it.

    no its not correct. when you was spinning the wheel it jumped up and down!! Truing a wheel is not just side to side!!! and NEWER hit ANYTHING with a messurment tool!!! its a pricission tool for messurment not a baseball batt!!
