  • Important info!! So 15" seems to be too much to take off of your bust measurement, especially if you have a larger bust size than I do. I think due to the yarn I was using, it made the project grow more so than it normally would. I would instead suggest taking off 10" instead of 15". When I measured my top at the end (after wearing) it was 21.5" long whereas my bust size is 31.5 -32" so it seems my project "grew/stretched" about 5".
    If you're using the exact yarn I'm using, be aware that it grows quite a bit. So 15" still may be the right call for your project.
    This is for all my beginner crocheters out there! I made this in-depth tutorial to hopefully help you out with constructing your first crochet top. It's fairly simple and includes all beginner-friendly stitches. Hope you enjoy ! xx

    Heyy, i started one but it came out too small in it's length, it doesn't even reach my back. How would you suggest that i make it bigger? I am new to crochet and this is my first real project. Thank you!!
    The tutorial is very well explained, just my boobs that it's too small that taking off 15" was too much lol thank you!!

    • @brittanyalicecrochet
      @brittanyalicecrochet  2 роки тому +340

      Thank you for letting me know that it was too small! I don't have pattern testers for my videos, so comments always help me out! To make it bigger, I would suggest adding more half double crochets along the sides of the top. So instead of going straight into making the straps, I would chain 1 and flip your top so you are working on the side of it. Then I would make rows of half double crochet until you are satisfied with how much more length it has. Then I would fasten off that side and do the same thing to the other side of the top. After you are done with that, then I would attach the yarn into one of the corners of the top and then finish the straps and border portion of the video.
      I will also put a note here for everyone else that 15" seems to be too much to take off of your bust measurement. I think due to the yarn I was using, it made the project grow more so than it normally would. I would instead suggest taking off 10" instead of 15". When I measured my top it was 21.5" long whereas my bust size is 31.5 -32" so it seems my project "grew/stretched" about 5".

      @@remkenyon heyy, i don't mind at all...
      I still haven't finish, but it ended up with 18 inches.
      After I finished the steps on the video, i repeated the process in each side, starting with a 4.5 inchs chain and half double crochet until the end, i connected the new piece with the old with single crochets.
      Was that clear?

    this top was the first project i ever did, and totally helped me start crocheting. I just revisited this pattern to use up about half a skein of some self-striping yarn, and the result is so cute and basically looks like cotton candy (i used a basic white yarn for the border and straps and it contrasts so nicely)

    TIP FROM BEGINNER.
    This is an amazing thing to make as a beginner, it's the second thing I've ever made in crochet, I used thicker, multicolour yarn to make it a little easier and less see through, it definitely works

      Do u use the hook size the yarn says on packaging or same as them in the vid

    • @venusspade6449
      @venusspade6449 Місяць тому

      @@yummyplayzroblox8898you should always use the same as the vid, the hook size on the packaging is just a suggestion for the yarn weight. But you can use any size hook with any yarn to change the effect, for example a thicker yarn with a smaller hook will make less gaps and vice versa, usually best to follow the tutorials hook size or close to it if you want to achieve the same affect.

    Quick Tip for people with a slightly larger bust size: instead of just crossing the straps in the back, create a faux halter neck by knotting the straps just behind the neck at the height that sits best on you. Then just cross and lace up like in the video - this helps the top sit at the right height and not slip down into dangerous nip slip territory 😂 hope this helps someone! Great video and super pattern x

    This top is sooo cute! I have never crocheted before but you made it seem so easy I HAD to try. In the end it took me about two days to finish it (representation for my fellow slow learners here), a lot of grumpiness because I had to re-do some parts.... (the straps made me go insane but that is definitely my fault, I tried the lazy method and ofc it came back to bite me in the ass).
    In the end it came out kinda lumpy and I ran out of the same color yarn so I had to switch in the middle of it but I kept going just for fun... Now I have a lumpy white top with a splotch of black, but I am SO PROUD of myself. Am I going to wear it? Probably not. Will I try again and put to test the things I learned while doing this first try? DEFINITELY.
    Thank you so much for having the patience of sharing this tutorial with all of us, your explanations were super clear and the fact that you went back and showed each step even if you had already explained it beforehand made it really easy to follow!! All the love!

When I started the top, I knew nothing at all about how to crochet. This tutorial by itself taught me the basics and gave me the confidence to learn a new skill. first off, this tutorial was amazing! super easy to follow and totally beginner-friendly. i’ve only ever crocheted a teeny single crochet scarf before, but i wanted to try this and it looked easy enough. in total this top probably took me about 8 hours to complete, but it was so worth it. i learned a lot of new stitches doing this and i’m so proud of how it turned out!
    my measurement A worked great. i took 15” off and it worked just fine! on the other hand, my measurement B was kind of tough. my initial measurement was 6” (i’m a B cup), and even though i wanted kind of a longer top, i was worried it might mess up the pattern so i went with 5.” now that i’m finished, i really wish i had gone till 6” or even 7” as that would’ve worked better for the length i wanted. in the end though, i ended up with exactly what was shown in the video and it’s still super cute!
    despite the rounded corners, i’m planning on going back in on the bottom and adding a few more inches of half double crochet stitches to it. hopefully that’ll work! does anyone have any other ideas for expanding it??
    edit: instead of adding more rows, i think i’m going to crochet a lace pattern around the bottom to make it longer! i’ll do another update when it’s done.

    This will probs get lost in a sea of comments but this just came back onto my feed and I wanted to thank you. For some reason, despite never looking up crocheted anything before, this video came onto my feed a year or two ago. In typical ADHD fashion, I was like omg WHAT is this hobby I need it NOW. So I bought hooks. I bought the wrong kind of yarn. I made this top in scratchy acrylic, then again in weight 4 cotton. Since then, I haven't stopped. I joined a handicrafter group at my library and met a million old ladies who are really close with me now. I've made so many projects, from stuffies to wearables, and I've created so many gifts for friends and family. I thought it was something I'd abandon quickly, but I haven't, and I wanted to thank you for that. You're the whole reason I have all of these things in my life that I love so, so much.

    I know I commented like two weeks ago, but here I am again. I used this pattern again, but I did it correctly this time. the measurements of A- 10 worked so much better than A-15. I have a beautiful crop top (And my bf suggested i make it reversible so that it was less see-through and able to be two colors.) I absolutely love how it turned out. Thank you so much for your directions. :)

    edit: i forgot to update. personally, the top didn’t work for me, i used the measurements and it was a lot smaller. even after trying a different way it didn’t work. this is probably due to the wool i used, because it’s worked well for everyone else

    I completed this as my first crochet project (after a small square to learn the stitches). It took me about 3 days, but I did have to pull it apart twice after realising it was way too big. I saw the comments saying it came out too small and to only remove 10 inches, well my yarn was stretchy that even 15 inches still left it on the larger size. Not even sure how many inches I removed in the end.
    This was a super easy to follow tutorial for a beginner and I love my end result.

  • @Streetxxrat
    @Streetxxrat Рік тому +7

    Tip: don’t take 15 inches off the first crochet length without measuring the braid around your chest ! Everyone has different body types and 15 inches off was like taking away half my length and it just didn’t work for me. I made it longer in the beginning because I measured against myself and saw that it would be too small and then crocheted the length I wanted😊 Everything is relative

    • @brittanyalicecrochet

    • @brittanyalicecrochet
      @brittanyalicecrochet  2 роки тому +6

      What you can do is once you’ve chained what you think is enough for you, hold the top up to your body and place the chain over your shoulder and across your back to the opposite side (like is shown in my thumbnail). Then grab the chain at that point. Pull the top away from your body and place it down on a table/floor, then criss cross the chain down the body of your top (starting at where you are holding the chain) like I show at the end of my video. Make sure to leave enough of a chain so you can tie your top as well! I hope this kind of helps, it’s hard to explain. Please watch the “how to weave in straps” portion of the video to get an idea of how long your chain should be. For me it’s usually trial and error and I don’t have a specific way to know if my strap is long enough until I try it on!
