Every decade or so, Phish puts out a song that I heard in my head before and is also the most original Phish I ever heard at the same time. I get this was tested by TAB earlier, but this version had all the Phishy things. Old but new in a real way. Also, groundbreaking, reinvented form of phish plus all of their influences and heros.
Listened to Tom talking about this one... it's a brand new song, but the lyrics go back a long long way. It's a bit of a collection of unused lyrics from one of the earliest books he gave to Trey. Perfectly explains why it fells old in a new way to you.
All week long my buddy and I kept joking about driving all that way and getting hit with Fuego. Then they close out the festival with Fuego and it was actually one of the best songs of the whole fest lol
@@TheRealLange21yea i tourd the year fuego came out… they played it every show… I’ve had a really bad trip at wriggly to fuego. Normally not a fan of fuegos vibe. But damn that fuego outro jam was such a great memory engrained in my brain forever.
Really? I always thought they had a distinct vintage Phish flavor but figured it was just really a modern home run, that's pretty cool. The whole narrative idea with a bunch of characters doing their own things around some kind of manor, very reminiscent of the lyrics to Bathtub Gin, Reba, and Esther.
This is the 2nd time I have heard since hearing yesterday for the first time on a wim hearing the show via SatRadio….all I can say is as this song oh my just so stoked on the songwriting the flow and pace of this sosososososososososososososososososososososos psychedelic song. reminds me of Esther, floating back down to Earth, with the doll she had forgotten, as I stand here listening staring into the dark and dimly lit sea am covered in snot along with a mountain of tears from my balling my eyes this jam this vibe this vibrant thing that phish is holding down is so necessary for me right makes me happy when the overwhelming sadness and times long past with people that I love more than anything that i have a privilege to ask from the depths of my soul outside with my skateboard in hand all to myself phishing in the CA land over water because of this song I AM thinking of my Dad, Richard H. I hope Trey keeps this amp setup through eternity. The Mesa Boogie with the Ross compressor makes Trey sound so beautiful on those articulated cleans. And the Trainwreck driven by the Tube Screamer is dialed in just right for the creamy dirty sounds.
My girlfriend asked if they would be playing old songs, or tracks from the new album at the festival. I said all that and even songs newer than that. The lyrics to this song are so cool, very phishy. I often find myself peeling zippers in walls open. Thank you for mondegreen
OK, so sadly I haven’t been to any Phish shows in 2024 and I really don’t wanna talk about it. But I did watch a majority of the shows in real time on my phone and/or laptop. This is what I have listened to most. It flows through my entire being is how I can best describe it. It is the most. Just the most, the most powerful music that pierces my soul in the most amazing way.
Classic Tab debuted the 12/31/24 gag song on 5/9/24. They performed it a total of four times and my favorite is the Montreal version from 5/19/24. Phish debuted “What’s Going Through Your Mind” with Billy Strings on 8/7/24. I remembered it from Classic Tab. Tom Marshall was the first one to post the lyrics on Twitter. (Thanks Tom!) I honestly didn’t know how I was going to enjoy it without Billy Strings because he added layers to it. Well, when I heard the WGTYM that Phish performed on 8/15/24 at their Mondegreen festival (on the webcast) I quickly changed my previous opinion that it wouldn’t be as good without Billy Strings. This was my hyper fixation song for a couple of months following the festival. At the recommendation of Jake Silco I did give the Dick’s version a fair share, but I went back to Mondegreen as my go to. I have seen 9 Phish NYE shows live since 1993 and watched the last 10 years on the webcast when I wasn’t there. Well, this is the first time for me that Phish played one of my new favorite songs for the New Year’s Eve gag! Yes, there are other songs that they’ve done that I absolutely love, but I’m talking OBSESSED with this song. I mean it was written by Trey Anastasio, Tom Marshall and Scott Herman and that’s my favorite writing trio. What Phish did with it last night just blows my mind. I went to one rave in the early 90s with some friends from high school and I got into Phish soon after that as it just was not my vibe. I really feel like Phish could play anything and it would still sound good to me. It’s something about the four guys on stage and how channel the divine through their music that just speaks to me regardless of what type of effects they do with it. I’ve been looking at videos online from people in the audience, even MSG had some cool drone footage. Not to dis LivePhish because it’s a blessing but the webcast just doesn’t do it justice.
@@stacybenstockklein449 the webcast definitely doesn’t do it justice. They play it on the screens in the top sections and I could tell how much people are missing out with all the close ups. Recency bias or first time excitement or whatever. It’s a cool song and a great vehicle. With mikes new rig and sound I do hope they explore this electronic avenue more. Just magical. What a night. May be my favorite overall show experience. Before this my #1 was 12/31/98.

It’s crazy Phish is still creating so many crazy good songs 40 years in. Some bands keep playing that long, but they just come out, play an uninspired “best of” set and go home. They just go through the motions. But Phish just keeps being Phish.
Heard this one from City Hall (the only night it was open for the show). Probably my favorite jam of the festival other than the Secret Set of course. 12:45 taps into something evil

Man, this song is excellent! 🎶🤘 I heard it for the first time on the MemphoFest stream this weekend when Trey and Classic TAB performed it and can’t stop listening since. For me it has The Time Warp (Rocky Horror Picture Show) x Rocky Raccoon (Beatles) x Oysterhead vibes and for some reason I keep imagining it playing behind Jen Ortega as Wednesday Adams pulling off some kind of bank heist caper! I guess that imagery & soundtrack just kind of personifies badass to me 🧟♀️Lol. Also, just incredibly cool lyrics to mull upon 🌀💭🐦🔥
"Cold, late night so long ago When I was not so strong you know A pretty man came to me I never seen eyes so blue" Every time I hear this song I hear these lyrics at the beginning.
This song is epic, Phish by way of Bob Dylan, and here I thought they’d have a hard time topping that debut with Billy and they drop this monster next time out
Any guitarist or musician want to explain what Trey is doing at 13:18? interesting riff he repeats. has a kinda deep sound, almost boomy. any thoughts would be appreciated. comes back at 13:31. it's mirroring something Gordo is doing. 15:01 kinda brings it back but in higher register?
Sick jam. Whoever runs the cameras, come on now. Peak of tunes straight up shot of stage and lights fading either in or out of band. Side shot angles are a travesty during jam peaks!!!
Movies, music, writing, etc. using original ideas that came up decades ago to make money. And people love it because no one can think of anything new anymore. She's a talented singer but this is trash and pays zero tribute to the song, which by the way Janice didn't write or originally perform.
Are people really listening to this? The song itself is horrible, along with so many other new songs. Yes, the jams are good but that doesn't make the song itself good. My vote for best new song....& the jam really jams...song of the festival I think....
I thought the exact same when I saw it at Classic TAB @ SaltShed Chicago. It happened to be the debut. It's the new new jam jam.
