  • We decided to stress test some of the most popular bow sights on the market to see how reliable the Mathews Bridge-Lock system is and to determine what are some of the most durable bow sights that can withstand a hard fall.
This is a non-biased consumer report purely testing strength, durability, and reliability of equipment.
Sight Brands featured are Spot Hogg, Axcel, Black Gold, HHA, Trophy Ridge, and CBE.

And this is why I use Spot Hogg and Axcel. HHA is the only other hunting sight I'd use and I've tried them all.

Spot Hogg and Axcel are two of the best out there. HHA is not bad. The rest don’t cut it.

Holy crap, you weren't kidding about breaking sights.
My experience is with HHA, Axcel & CBE. CBE makes OK stuff but didn't hold zero well. Both the HHA & Axcel are extremely durable, knocking over your bow doesn't affect zero on the HHA or Axcel. Can't go wrong with either.
    Nice video!

Unsurprisingly, if you drop a 10 pound weight on the weakest spot on a bowsight, they may break or bend.
I don't know how useful or realistic this was to test a sight's durability, but i would recommend performing your test with the sights attached to a riser (since there are other things that can also hit the ground before the sight) as well as ensuring your log drops are from a uniform height (some of those were more "gingerly" done than others).
The moral of the story: if you drop your bow on your sight, you sure-as-hell better check it before you loose an arrow at an animal. You owe the animal a quick, ethical kill.

Completely agree. As we move forward and test more products, we will hone down the process. We have had our pro shop for 25 years and have seen just about everything happen to all products. The hope is that additional information given to the manufacturers will help them make a better product. I talked to a sight engineer about the test and they thought they could improve on it with some thought. Some are more receptive than others. Since they were all tested together it makes it hard to deny what they see. You are correct on a more uniform test for the future regardless of what the test is on. Thanks for watching!

5 sights should not cost thousands of dollars, that is so over the top. so you buy a sight and you put it on and take it off numerous times, why would you think it would change impact point if you did your part right? should have weighed each one cause some of them weigh almost a pound. My local shop carries everything from entry level to the elite stuff, not just the elite stuff like this shop purports to do.

We carry dozens of sights. This was just a test of the top end movers. Not sure if I didn’t state it or just assumed people would know. Our sights run from $30 to $400. The purpose was to help consumers who want to spend that much know what they can take. Sorry if I didn’t state that somewhere in the video. Really, and maybe a little bit secretly we hope sight companies that make expensive sights see it and make their products better. Not that you would throw a log on it but hopefully make the point that address the weak part of the sights. Since I have owned our business for 25 years, we’ve seen these breaks before so I did a crude version of hitting the vulnerable spot. Either way, thanks for watching.
