- Labelle was an American all-female singing group who were a popular vocal group of the 1960s and 1970s. The group was formed after the disbanding of two rival girl groups in the area around Philadelphia and Trenton, the Ordettes and the Del-Capris, forming as a new version of the former group, then later changing their name to the Blue Belles (later Bluebelles). The founding members were Patti LaBelle (formerly Patricia Holt), Nona Hendryx, and Sarah Dash.
"Lady Marmalade" is a song written by Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan. The song is famous for its sexually suggestive chorus of "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi (ce soir)?", which translates into English as "Do you want to sleep with me (tonight)?". The song first became a popular hit when it was recorded in 1974 by the American girl group Labelle. Labelle held the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week, and also topped the Canadian RPM national singles chart.
It reached #1 in the Dutch Top 40 on 8 February 1975 and stayed at the number one spot for 4 consecutive weeks. A classic!

😍 I'm also introducing this to the young adults. I just shared this in our group chat at work. The majority of my coworkers are in their early to mid 20s... plus outside the US.
Me because my Mama raised me right!
Even in 1974 she sang with the upmost confidence I have ever seen and she does not have any limitations. Love this lady.
I'm 81, and these ladies are still my favorites 😍
I´m 15 and you are still right ( never the other side!!) !! 😍😍
U GO MISS MARGARRET!
I like the movie version as well, it makes me want to belt out the tune!
The 70s will NEVER be outdone. Soul music was the best. So much talent in the 70s.
Lo mejor lejos
AGREED! Bands with music and live singing...

Say it Again. 😘
Agree with you 100%!!!!!
This song was HUGE when it came out.
One of my favorite songs of all time
"I'm not arguing about twerking in 2020" Meg the stallion
Still a great r&b hit song from 1970s
@@devinngeorge ikr? Meg The Stallion sucks. 🚮🚮 And why did she name herself after a Male horse? 😑🙄
@Peter Macias Whoa! Heavy!
I'm so glad these 3 got to sing this song together. It would not have not been the same without their soul, energy and vocal power. An endless timeless classic.
Saw them in Portland in 75. Will always remember.
Right on Bro!
They sang a lot more than this song !!!!!!
This is one of the finest examples of '70s music, and the soul genre. It will never go '"out of date". When it's 200 years old, it will still make people want to dance.
Here we have three AMAZING women. Ms. Patti Labelle, Ms. Nona Hendryx, and, Ms. Sarah Dash. AMAZING!!! Simply AMAZING! Can we give it up, and maybe do a hand stand? Who cares how long ago it was. It is, what it was meant to be... A MOMENT in music history. So, y'all ready to give it, what it deserves?
Wow nicely said
@dave4248 Yes. She was one of many.
This is when black women look so natural and beautiful than ever before!

Gitchie-gitchie, ya-ya da-da, gitchie-gitchie, ya-ya here” seven yrs. old, singing my lil’ heart out and had no idea what I was singing about 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My nieces were 3 years old in 1997 and were singing that same line. But I got in trouble 'cause they told their moms that "Teedie Wanda" was singing it. #LittleSnitches (LOL)
Same here😆
Oooooooh!
Me too! I was 11 and clueless. That did not stop me from pretending to be a soul train dancer in the bathroom mirror to this song.
Lol
Sad to hear about the passing of Sara Dash on Monday 9-20-21 . She was so beautiful with a beautiful voice . She along with Patti Labelle & Nona Hendryx made the 70’s a great time with their songs . We will always remember them and their music , we loved dancing to their music . We will see you in Heaven again where you will be entertaining everyone their . Terry

RIP
Originally they were part of the many 60s girl groups. They were Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells. Patti's real name is Patricia Holt.
R.I.P.
I saw the and the 4 Tops live in 1964 and a Skating Rink in Indianapolis. They were on tour. (had to tour by bus in the segregated 60's)
Let's not forget the incredible brass section here folks...what a freakin' JAM.
I'm 55 years old now and when that beat drops, I'm back in the 70s again. This is one of my all time favorite songs as sung by LaBelle. So much so that I can't listen to any other versions or covers. The energy This group brought this song will be unmatched throughout time, in my opinion.
Wow I'm 55 too I never knew so many freaking. Gymnastics people liked this song and any way

@Elle Morgan Go away with that mess. The only one transgender is you.

These ladies were stanning Afro-Futurism way back then! And Nona Hendryx was my big girl crush. The original is still the best! I know Christina tried, but Patti owns this song.

I remember the Wolfman and his strange voice . Thanks for the memories .
Patti's vocals take fans on a trip to a different WORLD, and believe me the ride is AMAZING....GREAT VOCALS!!
I’m so used to singers nowadays struggling to even belt out anything. The singers of this era made it look so effortless!!! This was real talent before ppl could hide behind auto tune.
They jus bustin out hollah !
Because they cannot sing
Autotune, dancers, a whole circus in the background to take away the fact they can't really sing.

Amazingly catchy, and 50 years later probably the best-known song WORLDWIDE!

R.I.P. Sarah Dash !!! From the legendary group Labelle featuring Patti Labelle and Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash!
An Amazing Group !!!
Wow, I remember these women's sound like it was this morning. What amazing voices! What great talent. Not everything was perfect in the 70's, but the music exhibited raw intensity, emotion, strength, and required actual real skills to perform well. How I miss it.
Wow, what a stage performer
we gotta appreciate these legends who can sing, dance, and entertain us! 👑🎶🎵❤
I was seven, my mother was in the hospital in preparations for having my little sister, while my father was watching me and my brothers and we were in our old bedroom that my dad converted to his weight room, where we were working out, and this song came on the radio.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
Everytime I hear this JAM, I can't help thinking about that day.🤔🌈🧠🌄🏘️
I was just thirteen when this wild jumping jam came out. I fell in love with it and Labelle. Their whole look and sound and soul and sexiness. They were my very first concert!! I’m still in love with this powerful jam and always will remember that first concert in Providence RI in 1974! “ Getcha getcha ya ya da da,
Getcha ya ya da da here
Mocha chocolate ah, ya ya
Creole Lady Marmalade!” LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!
Fabulously Sung by the Incomparable Miss Patty LaBelle and her Diva Sisters known as LaBelle❤️

When this song came out I was a Freshman in high school taking French. We made our French teacher tell us what it meant and went around the rest of year repeating it LOL!
Our french teacher explained it too, pretty cool!

The three of them are truly phenomenal!!!! Patti Labelle's voice is from another space, it sounds so soothing and clear.
Things I didn't know, but Appriecite about being a 9 year old in 1974. ❤

La più bella canzone dei primi anni 70 ,wondeful music ,eternal music
I was stunned to the core of my very soul to learn of dear, sweet Soul-Sister Sarah Dash transitioning to Eternity. Moments ago I was reading an interview with Candi Statton in the Gaurdion and Ms. Statton was saying how Ms. Dash was such a close friend that she could tell when Ms. Statton was having a troubling moment in her life that Ms. Dash would call her with just the right words to say. Thank you dear Sister Sarah, for being such a terrific source for joy.
Great music. I loved growing up in the 70's.
I've loved this song since I was little listening to the oldies. I had no idea what I was singing 😂

The 70s were great, lol. The music of all sorts was amazing. Had a great time.
Dont quote me but.. i heard it translates to

I only knew what it meant ("do you want to sleep with me tonight?") because I took French in high school. Very cool that "dirty words" could be on the radio.
I was 9 yrs old when this song was recorded. I also had cool sisters who enjoyed music. What a wonderful song. ✌❤😊
L'excellence ne se démode jamais. Magnifique version !!
Waou je vois ça pour la première fois
Magnifique en plus je trouve qu'elle sont magnifiquement habillée
Bass line makes this song, along with the vocals of course.
My mom had house parties back then. I could sneak in the room with the adults to dance. I knew every song that was a hit too. This song came on while my mom was in the restroom. I'm running out my room to the living room floor. Once i start performing, everybody stops dancing and to listen to me sing. They're laughing, joining in with me, claps and all . This made me sing the loudest and dance fiercely. I was over performing hands on hip, when my mom entered screaming and ran me out the room. I was six. By the time I knew what them french nola words meant, I was a teenager. When I asked my mom did she remember the night I embarrassed her. She said, her co workers brought it up every time the dang song was played....And it still ain't funny to her... that they were edging me on at six...
LOL

To me?: Ms. LaBelle had the voice and manic energy.Ms Dash was the sweet mysterious cutie pie.And Ms. Hendrix was the statuesque freak..loved her album in '82 Keep it Confidential.
Yes, each brought just what the trio needed musically: Patti (exciting lead vocals), Sarah (soaring soprano harmonies), Nona (alto and extraordinary songwriting). And their outrageous outfits emphasized each singer's uniqueness.
