Its just general attrition, I have 5 friends that got the game and quit because they didn't want to grind while getting shit on by people outgearing them. Its just a fundamental fact that needs to be dealt with. I know there are some that did not like the rarity restriction on normals or the level

rarity doesn't inherently mean much, it's the stats on the gear that matters so it didn't limit very much
Everyone I played with quit the game because of that, it was so bad…. Only way I’d agree with that being in the game is if it was it’s on separate mode like high roller, it sucked saving purples in your inventory to not be able to use them on ruins, and normal crypts and made green and blue gear crazy expensive.

Yeah I'm waiting for the perk system rework and skill tree addition. Grinding for loot alone is just too repetitive for me. What's the point... grind for a really good set, play a few rounds and then lose it?

As a DaD addict I can confidently say I uninstalled. Horrible balancing under the guise of EA was the main reason. I've never seen a company flip flop on horrible decision this much in my 32 years of living. Makes you wonder if they even play/test the game or if they just watch streams.
The devs immaturity mixed with the streamers toxicity bred this cess-pool of endless QQ. Catering to people that OBVIOUSLY could give 2 craps about the health of the game.
Not many people want to say it but I will. The devs listening to the snail chat viewer bot andy streamers is what killed the game for the majority of people playing. (I.E. "nerf bard it took away my ability to 1v3. Notice cleric never got nerfed even though it's arguably a better pick for the 3 against an op 1. Because the streamers weren't crying about cleric. They were crying about bard)
JayG you were the example I gave to people when they complained about sweaty no lifes smashing timmys for nothing like a BR. PP perry, noticing people were not geared or friendly and just walking away. Using voip... These things made the GAME FUN for OTHER PEOPLE.
Now the game is dying and people wonder why... Just go look at the discord this community is dog at best. League of legends fosters a more friendly environment than this and it's notoriously the most toxic game in existence.
For anyone considering buying DaD I would tell them to wait or just don't. There's no fun chill times here right now. Only unhappy casuals, sweaty no life 12 hours a day, and Darkness...
Its a simple answer. You must cater to the causal and new players to keep a player base. Listening to the chads and the all day players will be there down fall. The normal dungeons should be max green and very rarely should blue even spawn. Then lower the cost of highrollers. Make ruins a 3 man again and allow that to be the everything goes area. That will help alot of new players and allow them the option of joining the purple buffballs in a cheap crypts or a free ruins

i think the issue is when they announce a wipe. personally as soon as they announce a wipe I loose all motivation to play really cause getting gear and gold has no point. But once wipe happens it time to build up again.

It’s so new-player unfriendly. My friends just end up quitting after getting stomped by chads in norm lobbies for the 27th time. I don’t think they’ve made it out more than 5 times in crypts.
Also there’s seemingly no middle-class, it’s either nakeds or full geared kids. The game is definitely extremely rough for a new player which is honestly terrible for keeping games alive.

"what happened" basically level 20 people with BIS keep on killing me at level 3 so I quit. this wipe has been by far the worst wipe possible.

I got sick of Trading and Ranged meta, so instead of complaining about an early access game I just decided to stop until there'll eventually be an SSF/No trading mode.
I still love the game, but I don't want to deal with this trading shit anymore it's not enjoyable at all for me.

I had a lot of fun with this game back during the playtests. I've since moved on to games where player skill matters more than the gear, such as Hunt: Showdown.

There are just too many glaring issues with the way the devs handle this game IMO. They don't have routine scheduled maintenance, it's sporadic and unprofessional. Their excuse is that it's early access, but plenty of other early access devs don't jerk their community around like Ironmace does. On top of that, the balance is still not quite there, and they make changes so often it's truly hard to tell if they give things enough time. And of course, the issue with the nature of the game itself, which is that it mainly rewards players who only play this game and pour all of their time into it. Add the fact that there are still not any Quests or true objectives for players to do outside of the wipe loop and leaderboards, and you've got one hodgepodge of a mess. My prediction is another studio will come along that makes a clone but handles their approach to balancing/updates better (maybe Project Crawl tbh) and players will migrate to that instead. I love Dark and Darker, but that's probably going to be the sad reality of it.

The devs are just too "all over the place" with literally any and all changes related to the game. Gear is too strong so 90% of the fights in the game are stat checks instead of skill differences.
There were 2 times when I genuinely enjoyed the game and saw a bright future for it: When ANY stat was MAX +1 on any piece of gear (at the start of this wipe, which unfortunately only lasted 1 or 2 days) and when gear cap was introduced to the NR maps so only blue gear could be brought into the lobby. Both of those times, the game was actually playable.
I don't put a ton of time into the game, so I don't have a ton of gold or gear to work with and playing against players who played 20 hours a day with full purple gear and tens of thousands of gold was just unfun. Period. However, when the gear was only a max of +1 stat of any kind on any piece, even BIS purple gear wasn't THAT much stronger than decent blue gear. Even good green gear could compete to a degree with bad purple gear because the gear itself wasn't giving THAT much of an advantage and it was much more about skill expression.
Everything I just said from above was only related to the balancing. The devs are very sporadic when it comes to updates, fixes, balancing, etc. For example, when they removed 50% stat scaling on ALL spells. Why? Wizard was "over performing in high roller".. but why was wizard over performing? Is wizard overpowered and needed nerfed? No. It's just that the "meta" comp back then was Fighter Bard Cleric -- which Wizard hard counters entirely. So yeah, of course wiz was over-performing.. it's the one class that countered the meta back then. It was a terrible balance decision made based solely on statistics of games alone instead of actually addressing the bigger picture. Also, where's the statistics now? Where's all the data? When we were all playing in the playtests, the devs released the data from normal dungeons, high roller, etc, so we could all see the big picture as to what was overperforming and where it was overperforming.
One of the moderators in the discord claimed that "their team was extremely transparent and doing everything they can to make sure the game stays fun and enjoyable for everyone" but that is just a flat out lie. The community's interests are on the back burner as we saw with the gear cap removal. Thousands of thumbs downs and less than one thousand thumbs ups in just hours. If the community was actually in their best interest, this change would've been reverted. The only valid explanation I heard from anybody was that the gear cap removal forced players into high roller to use their purple gear so it was providing skewed data and statistics on how they could improve HR to give it more incentive to play. This was actually a valid point, but the devs still have yet to come up with any kind of solution to the mess that is high roller.
Simply, they just need to slow the timers down for zone in high roller, if nothing else. Give players time to camp, rest, kill the stronger mobs, loot, etc. The map just closes in too fast so you can't really actually play the game. Not to mention the normal dungeon is way too loaded with good loot. When I can find an orange rarity item in normal dungeon, something is wrong with the loot pools. Period. Why would anybody waste their time and gold going high roller when you can just run normal dungeon and get the same or just better loot?
The alternative is EA games who's devs do nothing. I'll take what we get now anyday
@@jaygriffyuh Oh yeah don't get me wrong, Ironmace is very obviously passionate, and I'll take them over scummy EA all day every day. And you have to give them credit, they have pioneered a new subgenre of games with this dungeon crawling extractor, which we are already seeing people try to replicate (Greed is Good, Project Crawl) and doing that while battling Nexon in court. They deserve credit. I just wish they would figure things out a little bit as it seems like the overall hype for the game is fading, and it seems to be (at least in my friend group) due to frustrations with frequent and inconsistent updates/wipes/balancing, rather than with the concept or the game itself. And I will add, probably in a year or two down the line, this game will be something even more fantastic than it was at launch, I just hope that people stick around that long to see it to that point.

Me and two friends try to play this game casually and the gear cap was the most fun we had in the game because we didn't get rolled by full purples in the non-highroller lobbies. And then they removed, and we kinda just quit because we got rolled again and it was boring as hell. Did to many people cry about the feature or something?

What they need to do is increase stash size or make better gear more common so people could actually carry non maxed out gear in their stash and take it in the point that they are at now the shash can only have a few decent kits causing people using the best of the best kits and to only save those and to only use those marauders at this point is badically in the same state pvp is almost all there is to do however because decent gear is so common people arent nearly as pissed for losing a juiced kit and play more also release some trade missions already its not a big ask like brung 8 skeleton bones out of raid with you and stuff like that to earn gold

I've been looking at this game for a while and i just finished testing greed is good on their playtest, honestly the little quality of life things that are lacking here is what keeps me away from buying it, like not being able to have a shared stash or a proper way to trade. I don't know how many are like me but i feel the lack of QoL is damaging DnD slowly but nonstop
if thats keeping you away from buying it, then just buy it dude. thats not a big deal and this game is AWESOME

@@PurpsFilms I didnt say you can't, i said its not a proper way to do it in my opinion, in GiG for example its got an auction house system like we had in WoW back in 2004, copy-pasted, so no idea why its not in DnD honestly, if I have to spamchat and manually trade every item, dude, i don't even want to trade. Don't get me wrong, i really think this game is great , but i'm also waiting for those QoL things to make it more enjoyable in my opinion. I have a large list of games to play so i'm not in a hurry in any way.

Believe it or not most people don’t like spending 20 minutes laboring away at pve just to stay in the zone only to get one shot by some juicer who won’t even loot them. Yeah yeah “git gud”, doesn’t matter it’s not fun for people who actually have a life beyond playing the game nonstop most sane people will just play something that won’t waste their time
Legit all my friends except 1 have quit this wipe.
The gear this last wipe has been insane. The games are 1 team of BIS sweeping the entire lobby and not even looting because theres no good reason to go high roller and no gear cap in normals. Bows hit harder than Zweihanders. Theres no point showing friends the game because the new player experience is a nightmare. Worst of all they gave us a taste of the game being great with balanced gear and gear cap, yet they keep going backwards. Its like they see if an idea is massively popular then revert it. They refuse to implement ideas like practice dummy room or auction house. The wording makes no sense, even people who play 24/7 don't know how the skills/stats work.
I'm not a pro but not a timmy. Been playing since playtest 3, maybe its a skill issue but the game shouldnt just be playable by people who are unemployed. Sucks because the core of the game is a gem, ironmace is cool dev team, hope it doesnt die.

Gear cap was a nice bandaid until they can figure out how to make HR playable. Personally I think HR should be what most players gravitate towards instead of only skilled players or people who dump tons of time into the game and leave normal dungeons for people trying to make some gold to work with or level or learn. Currently, the only reason to go HR is for the challenge. The gold incentive is literally negative. lol

The game sucks now. You wipe with your friends and it's just over. You have to spend an hour just buying sets in the awful market. You need to play constantly to stay relevant and it's only going to appeal to really hardcore players. Welcome to mordhau 2.0, I hope Ironmace fixes this with the full release and makes it enjoyable for all because the core gameplay IS fun.

This is the natural cycle to the game, during a wipe week expect people to go in use the gesr they saved up and then come back once the wipe completes.
I used all my gear last night and now why the he'll would I drop into a dungeon nude when the only thing running around is everyone with gear.
I stand a much lower chance at pvp and get to keep non of the stuff if I do kill a juicer cause it will wipe at end of day today.

Honestly there are just a lot of other games releasing rn. I love dark and darker just feels like I’ve done most things in the game so when other new games see good enough to play then I’ll take a break. This game won’t die and I got some friends that can’t really get into it bcz they can’t fully understand the nature of the game. Would be much more people over time if new player accommodation was introduced. At least a thorough tutorial for its systems. Also an agreeable separation between gear in lobbies.

honestly man the reason the game is dying is because devs cater to content creators / streamers while the rest of us who only have a few hours a week to try and play simply cant keep up with the BIS gear.. need some form of gear capping ..there shouldnt be any reason someone BRAND NEW to the game with literally only a few minutes of gameplay can be placed into the same lobby as someone with hundreds (maybe even thousand+) hours in full BIS with legendary / unique gear / rings/ amulet / cape it just doesn't feel good to the casual player

I held the line and bought the HTL edition. I just uninstalled the game because I'm a new dad with a job and every time I played I just got curbstomped by some lobsters, sometimes even though I was obviously just a naked timmy with cracked gems running for my life (these people JUST DO NOT GIVE UP). Every game was just humiliating. I'm honestly just sad that the only entertainment value I get from this game is watching pro streamers nowadays. I know it's ridiculous and whiny, but I really get the feeling no one wants me to play this game.

Woah, only 6K People? The end is near. I fuckin' hate doomsayers in games. NO game will hold the population they had initially. NO game EVER does. It's just how it works.
Doomsayers are all the same, they see a dip in population, and then start shouting to the heavens and hells telling everyone, and when it dips even more they continue to wonder why the game is 'dying.' They become their own death knells for the games they populate.
The more you say the game is dying, the less people want to play it. So the game spirals into a dead end scenario and you know what? IT'S THEIR FAULT.

the play count isn't all that bad. If it released on steam then it would def revive. Most of my friends won't buy it cuz you gotta buy it off a website. I've heard talk of a PC release when it releases on console tho. All we can hope for is the best

I love the game, however a lot of people are not understanding that most of the time they die. They are facing sweaty people who stack buffs. Having a barbarian run in with all cleric and bard or wizards buffs etc. is normally why people are dying. Speed and defense buffs. On top of even double cleric heals is why a fighter or barbarian or rogue is 1v3 winning fights. I recommend playing with people with more game sense. Gear does help most definitely and gear cap on starter dungeons should be a thing most definitely but even if you and your friends have equally good of gear. If you are not utilizing your full abilities properly you will lose regardless

same thing is happening with Path of Exile, its popping off first month of wipe and dies out after that gradually.
No other motivation other than leaderboards and those are for hardcore players only.
No method to catch gold inflation other than trade fee and buying from merchants. While people make 1k a run by ratting in highroller.
They need to release the class tree function that works like the stash in tarkov for players to sink in gold and resources I think.
i feel like if you go in with the most basic gear, it would be nice if they pared you to the same gear quality. i sometimes go to goblin cave against level 20s with blue and purple gear wiping lobbies. basically quit after that

I mean they didn't really release new content lately. It's been balance changes and shop changes which is mostly about it.

They do need to add quest's and class stuff to do, probably fetch quest stuff from the merchants as well as class specific quests that might actually do something with unlocking abilities or new perks or crafting recipes, and they also need to bring back the gear cap. What they actually, sincerely need to do, is stop listening to streamer culture, most reactive decisions their making are based on leaderboards. The gear cap makes it so new players arent getting steamrolled, that the full purple kit "seal clubbing team" can go have fun in their meta lobbies with streamers and ttv kids, and then have everybody else actually enjoying the game. It's something that's actively killing most games right now but the people who do it refuse to change, which is people who either have no job or the game itself IS the job, dominating the game at every turn. It's also something I call "The Rust Effect", where the game cannot be played casually, you HAVE to be on the game learning, playing, grinding 20 hours a day, 5 days a week, or else you just fail and lose everything over and over and over. It's easy to see that nobody liked them reverting the gear based lobbies EXCEPT for the people it benefits from. Nobody goes highroller even though it's fairly easy because of the initial cost to jump in, when it's 50 gold to get in, you can reasonably have "worse" players try to go for some better loot.
They never shouldve added a solo duo and trio map, it forces classes to be balanced between 3 different game modes and the classes are already very unbalanced
