    It sure does a great job GP. As i said before I work for a Gas, Utility Company, and 90% of our mowing is Contracted out. The majority of these people use the Ferris brand, and for good reason too, they get their work done fast and efficient. Thanks GP for another good video.

    Greetings Gord, Lee here, man that mower made quick work of the lawn and kept you ahead of the flies. Looks like the black flies are quite huge, seeing them fly around the camera. Certainly shows your integrety, and your reputation, when a company from the US would send a machine to you to try out, word is out about your character. Its a real pleasure knowing a man of your character. Keep well, later.

    Impressive to say the least. I have 2-1/2 yards to mow probably about the area to the 1st yard you showed. My Cub Cadet XT1 handles it fine, any bigger I'd look into that mower. I'm glad I live south enough we don't get those black flies! Nice funky opening number! Best Regards, Jay

    Hello Gord, I wanted to mention to you, that you should be running the mower at 3/4 to full throttle when cutting grass, and you don’t have to run the lap bars to max forward or reverse either! If the owners manual has a set rpm/ throttle position for cutting, follow it, but the distance traveled doesn’t require full speed when cutting.
    By letting the blades have more rotations per ft of travel will give a cleaner cut, along with sharp blades!
    I run a John Deere z720 , 3 times a week,and find a cleaner cut by moving forward slower, while allowing the rpm to be raised to 3/4 throttle. I also tru to cut in different directions each cut. This limits ruts in the soil, and corn row effect of discharged clippings.
    When I worked as a greens keeper, we would draw out maps of how we were going to cut each area of the golf course, and this would also include the direction of cuts from last cut new direction and next direction. So if on Monday we cut “north to south,” then Wednesday we would cut east to west, Friday’s cut would be North to south + 15 degrees of rotation, now on Sunday, the cut would be 90 degrees of Friday’s cut!
    Mapping also lets you keep track of where you enter and exit a cut pattern, so after One full cut and 2 cut of 2/3 the deck width around the outer edge of a fairway, we would then enter the infield pattern, at a given location, and finish at the desired location tor the next fairway.

    Gord, there wasn't any dealer support for Ferris locally when I bought my Husky pzt61. After my dealer got them, I had one for a week on test, and loved it. Why has no one else ever thought to put a suspension on a lawnmower? It's brilliant. Side question, do you pull a land plane or box blade behind your 2601? 4 or 5 feet? I'm doing some research.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors 4 роки тому +1

      Good evening Mitch! Yes, she is a beauty. That's a great question - the reason why is because FERRIS has a patent on the suspension. I have pulled both actually - 5 foot for sure - need to get outside the width of the tractor footprint. Both weigh around 450-470 pounds. If I may offer: definitely need to get scarifiers on whatever unit you choose. Make sure it has 1 scarifier for every foot of width (so 5). Also make sure the scarifiers are held in place with proper pins and not with little "clips". If welded corners, it should have gussets. Box Blade for sure needs to have reversible moldboards (and should have a moldboard on the backside as well). The rear still panel of the box needs to be convex (allows the material to 'roll' within the box), Either unit needs to be heavy - if they are not heavy then you will have a hard time grading as the units will not have enough weight to dig or grade into the aggregate. So if it weighs less than about 450 lbs, you may not want it. You may not have seen it but I did a comparison on both last summer - 2 videos - (#196 and #197) as well as several grading videos using the BB and also several videos using the Landplane that you can see on the channel home page. Hope that helps - good luck!

    • @mitch_smith
      @mitch_smith 4 роки тому +1

      @@GPOutdoors Gord, thank you for the knowledge my friend. I was unaware, though I'm not surprised, about the patent. As to the other, I've been looking at compact tractors the past few days, though I've been considering it a few months. I was curious whether they could handle 5 ft planes, as dealer suggestions seem to vary, oddly. I have an older massey from the 60's, but would like something smaller and 4 wheel drive. I really like the B2601, but they are somewhat hard to come by right now. Also considering a Mahindra max 26xlt. Initially the JD 2025r was in there as well, but it really can't match the lifting capacities of the other 2 units. I've really been shocked by the amount of variance in these smaller tractors. It's a lot like picking ice cream at a parlor!

      Good morning Mitch. LOL! That is so true - many choices and difficult to cross -reference and compare. I spent about 3-4 months researching before buying. I am not too familiar with the other models but I am sure you will pic what is right for you. I am sure the dealer told you the 2601 model has been discontinued and being replaced by the new LX models. When not sure, ask them to show you the manual for the tractor. IN the manual for the b2601 for example, on page 6 it has a section called Implement Limitations and it lists most of the common implements and the maximum width and weight that the tractor is engineered to manage. And you can often find the manuals online if you google them ie "Kubota B2601 Manual'. Good luck my friend -important decision for sure.

    • @mitch_smith
      @mitch_smith 4 роки тому +1

      @@GPOutdoors Thanks So much Gord. I was not aware it was being replaced by the LX, but that could definitely explain why they are so hard to come by right now. I finally found a b2601 and went for a test this morning. Definitely a contender. I don't think any of them are bad, or better, if i'm being honest, but finding the one that "feels" best seems to be the key. At least for me.

    Gord I've had zero turns for years. They are fast and will cut a lot of grass in a day. You must have some good grass there. When turning the mower 180 degrees and spinning the inside wheel on the spot will tear up the grass as the soil dries out. You might need to make 3 point turns later in the year. Another little hint, these machines are heavy. One week we'll cut north/south, next week east/west and the next week we'll cut diagonally. They will rut the grass quickly. A down side to these mower's is they also compact the ground and you need to aerate yearly. I have 3 zero turns and I cut my own grass with a walk behind LOL, much better cut.

      Good day TK! Great question. Far more comfy and smooth than any of them. The suspension and seat suspension absorbs the bumps remarkably well. I was actually quite shocked - it feels like you float over bumps - there's no jarring or impact, so to speak - the seat floats up and then floats down. If you have ever driven in a semi-truck, the seat is very similar to the air ride suspension you would feel. I actually called them to ask if the seat suspension was hydraulic. I hope that helps a bit. Cheers!

    I currently have a industrial classic dixie chopper. 33/60 I'm trying to negotiate a price on a new Ferris ISX 3300z in a 71" deck. What are u guys paying for that 61"? Taxes included out the door price?

      Good morning H! I honestly don't know - this unit was provided to me for a short period of time to use on the channel. I know the MSRP is listed on the ferris website but I don't know what the local dealers are charging. Sorry I could not be of more help. Good luck and all the best!

    For big open fields, yards I think I'd stick to your tractor an finish,grooming mower especially I got a grooming mower with my tractor a few weeks ago it seems quicker

    I had to chuckle when you said, "word gets around fast". Yep, the neighbors are calling one another saying, "call GP, he's cutting grass for free". I have to say that machine is quite impressive, GP. You look so content riding this powerful machine. Okay..okay, I gotta ask....where are you gonna store this nice machine...b/c I see this baby staying with you. 🙂 Enjoyed a full-watch and you're good handling it. Enjoy your week. 🙂 👍🏽

    Looking good out there GP .
    How is the fuel consumption rate with this mower ?
    How is it to change out the blades to sharpen........ OR does it use L-A-Z-A to cut the grass ! Cheers !

      Morning Bubba! Great question. I have about 3.5 hours on the engine so far and still have about 1/2 tank left I think. The blades? Now that's a good question - I will have to read up on it the the time comes. LOL. You too, my friend. Cheers!

    Obvious that you like using the mower, GP. While the tractor is a great workhorse, once in a while you have to drive a zippy little sports car model. This looks like the sports car of yard work.

    I'm not a fan of the music, ... but the Ferris sure does mowing well!
    I know I'm in the minority, but that music is why I hardly watch all through the videos of 'Outdoors with the Morgans' these days, I usually skip through the 'music sections' in those videos.
    Most times I just don't watch. But, it's like I said,..I just came here to see and learn about the machines and tools at work,...the music spoils it for me. ( Oh well! )

      Good morning Reg. Thanks for the good feedback. Much appreciated. Big demographic of subscribers - some like music, some just like to hear the machines and some like a little of both. So I try to keep a mix of videos to appeal to most - some have no music, some do. Hope that makes sense. Thanks again - hopefully you enjoyed the drone shots.:)) Talk to you again soon!

      @@GPOutdoors Maybe you can create both type of videos. One version without music, one with music? Depending on how you edit(if you add music at the end), it shouldn't be too much effort.

    Great video, Gord. That is quite the mower. I’ve always thought with a side discharge mower it is better to shoot the cut grass onto the already mowed area. Otherwise if you go in a circle always shooting mowed grass to the center you’ll end up with a pile in the middle. What are your thoughts? Thanks for your fine editing! Cheers!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors 4 роки тому +1

      Morning Michael. That's a good question - I have heard that many times before and makes some sense, if the grass is overgrown. This thing blows with a lot of force and shoots the grass out pretty wide. Generally I have never deliberately done that myself back with the previous mowers I had. Take care!

    Zero Turns are overrated. I'd rather just have a yard that's easy to mow & doesn't include unnecessary obstacles. If the B series has a spring loaded seat then there is no real point of a ZT, IMO.
