  • Today I install a bird netting over my chicken coop. Are you worried that hawks or owls might eat your chickens? With this chicken netting, you can keep predators like hawks or owls out by simply draping your chicken run with this mesh netting. Your chickens will be safe to keep in an area.
    You can buy this netting at your local chicken supply store. Or you can buy at Amazon: amzn.to/3TG0BsY
    Don't forget to measure and get the proper size for your chicken run.

    Sad to hear the hawk got your rooster. The netting is good, I installed that about a year ago and it's still holding up.
    I did film that, I just never got to released that video. But good choice in the netting. I'm surprised you were able to accomplish putting that yourself. Great job by the way! It's much more difficult than it looks. My wife helped me with that. I've been blessed that I have Hawks that actually live in my backyard. They're also a great help. Thanks for todays video.

      I am hoping this netting holds up a year, like yours. But so far so good, even though it's been only a few day. As for the netting, I did find it difficult at first but I took my sweet time trying to figure it out.

    RIP little silkie buddy, your flock is safe. We have crazy hawks out here and got a lot more netting(was hoping to do more areas for them later) than we needed too. Hubby hated trying to untangle it and didn’t trim it down. Finding hens caught in it panicking is super scary! But it’s been up 5 months or so and hawks fly by everyday without trying for my teenage chicks. The crazy wind storms haven’t torn it either, just get leaves and sticks stuck.

      It's been a couple weeks now since install. Hawks are definitely flying over but do not try. Mine is a 2.4 inch mesh and nothing so far is getting stuck. But that may change in the fall when the leaves fall again.

    Sorry about your Rooster. We only free range our chickens and ducks when we are outside with them. The hawks are horrible around us. i do have a few crows that I feed quail eggs so they frequent alot and chase the hawks away. I also have pinwheels, CD spinners and owl decoys around. Our big duck aviary we have metal garden fence on the top with Deer netting over it. The deer netting is much thicker and sturdier than bird netting.

      Thanks for the tips. I have owl decoys too but they did not work on this day. Unfortunately, the crows were not around on the day of the hawk problem, but I wish they were. I use deer netting for my garden and it's a great alternative.

      Hawks have better eyesight than humans. To us the netting looks very small, but a hawk sees a much bigger/thicker mesh. They will not even try going through that. But so far so good.

    Just watched a video said black chicken keeps hawks at bay

      @oviduran  3 місяці тому

      Yes, I've seen a few of those videos too. I have four Black Australorps in my big chicken flock and "maybe" that's why I haven't lost any of my big ones so far. I do have one black Silkie rooster in my other flock but did not deter the hawk. I guess he's not afraid of the little chickens.

    UA-cam deleted my comment for a quote that use the "K' word. Editing and reposting it. Get decoy Great Horned Owls. Change their locations every few days.
    In North America, the Great Horned Owl is one of the main predators of hawks. This large owl has no problem attacking, k...ing, and eating hawks throughout its range. It eats species as small as Sharp-shinned Hawks and even as large as Red-tailed Hawks, a bird around the same size as itself!

      I have three decoy owls but find it difficult to move every few days. But the netting is doing a great job so far. I do see the hawks flying overhead but will not come down for the Silke chickens.
