So completely disregarding your comment on giving drug advice, do I take tren before or after my daily SARM dose? Also, do I take it in my morning yoghurt or cook it along with my bolognese to get that 'Pizzolato special'?
If you guys are open to it, a potential video subject could be the Soviet strength system, as I know you've mentioned in the past that it comprises the base of pretty much every national team's programming. Could also discuss the development of some national systems away from the soviet base and how they kind of added their own unique quirks. Obviously the Bulgarian system is very well-known these days, but I wonder a lot about the Georgians, Armenians, and Iranians (besides just training crazy heavy all the time). Also, does box squatting have any significant carryover for high bar backsquats, or are there just better exercises for posterior chain work besides just rdls and deads/clean pulls?
This is quite possibly the best ped-use in sports related video I have seen (and you tube is now full of chat), will be saving this one for future reference if/when the debate comes up which it frequently does. Very interesting.
29:20 It would be interesting to hear what differences there are in programming enhanced vs natural athletes, just from a general perspective. Its clear that the potential output from training is hugely increased from PEDs, but do the approaches to training need to change drastically too? Or is it simply just go harder for longer? ;-)
Pavel Tsatsouline mentioned this briefly on Joe Rogan’s podcast. He said something along the lines of it being similar to natty athletes but like you said harder and for longer.
Dude as a natty this highlights the main reason I want to hop on gear. Not to be bigger or even to reach a higher peak (directly), but because I have so many of those niggling overuse “injuries.” As I type this my shoulder, my left knee, and my right hip are all somewhat impaired at the moment. They are not causing significant amounts of pain, but are bothering me enough that progress has slowed, and it’s unclear whether time off or just continuing to push through would slow more more. I just want to be able to recover at that much faster rate, and while I recognize that it will indirectly contribute to me reaching a higher peak. The main reason I would like to be on drugs is just the enhanced recovery.
Numerous studies have explored and documented the increased injury rate among users of anabolic steroids. It’s really quite simple from a mechanistic standpoint. Anabolic steroids inhibit myostatin. Inhibiting myostatin makes the muscle larger and stronger, but also inhibiting myostatin makes the tendon brittle and more likely to rupture. just because you increase the turnover of protein and increase the rate of muscle protein synthesis does not mean that you increase the rate of turnover in the tendon and collagen synthesis. The work of Jill Cook is something you might want to read. Tendons really don’t heal or turn over once we reach adulthood.
really incisive insight here guys and so refreshing to get away from the ignorant and pejorative comments associated with the subject. keep up the good work
I think when people make the point about steroids growing the muscles more quickly than tendons its because in general tendons take longer to adapt and when you put on tissue at maximal speeds there is simply not enough time, enhanced or unenhanced. I do not think that the steroids provide any unique muscle-only growth but by speeding up both processes the enhanced muscle growth is just even faster than the tendon growth. Another factor is also just strength, Most naturals will drop the weight on themselves hundreds of pounds before they hit the requisite strength numbers to tear a muscle. For example chest tears, On youtube there are tons of videos of them but they are almost all giant monsters pushing unreal numbers on the bench and most naturals just arent on that level.
Very interesting and informative. I always learn a lot from you two. Though sometimes I have to pause & replay to figure out wtf you said because of those accents.
The statement about bodybuilding responding to more and more drugs was interesting. Dr. Mike Israetel and John Meadows didn't really agree to that, they were of the opinion that many use unnecessary amounts that they don't benefit from compared to using less, and that some would even benefit from taking less, even in bodybuilding. That in their opinion you should start with the smallest amounts and increase the dosage over the time if they're tolerating more and getting benefits, but also trying different things if they respond to something very poorly, like finding the ones that don't ruin their health from the get go if they get a lot of bad effects from something and barely benefits.
Could you guys possibly elaborate a little on the effects of coming off drugs? Is gains loss and potential psychological effect of it usually significant? Is is an issue at all? Thanks!
I also wish they elaborated on their experience on this. I can only talk about myself and those who I train with who use PEDs but certainly the strength loss of "coming off" or even "cruising" after a cycle is quite severe. There's generally a 3-5 kg loss in muscle mass in about a week or two which is as you can imagine is also an immediate 10% loss on performance. I can also attest to the fact that injury rate is much much higher when "off-cycle" or even "cruising" to the point where you need to adjust your training to be even lower than when formally natural.
And so on that note of how horrendous "off-cycle" and "cruising" is for both performance and rate of injury it is my experience that this is why, as Mark Bell puts it, "you're never really off a cycle. There's always a little something" I'm not sure how much the boys or UA-cam would allow me to elaborate on that but for instance, the "off-cycle" progression usually goes as follows: - PCT after first couple cycles - cruise on TRT after next couple cycles - TRT+ (increased TRT dose) after next cycle - HRT (TRT + low-dose steroid) after next cycle
I took testosterone simply to get an understanding of what it truly was about. They helped my recovery but if I didn't put in the effort I wasn't improving. Still requires effort.
31:20 You're kind of wrong, you should research and know basics about main PEDs and PCT. There was that case, when a well respected PEDs consultant (with clients comp winners(female BB)) literally killed a few of his clients with a stupid drug combinations and got away with that. Even a well known and respected Renaissance Periodization have recommended as a first cycle orals solo, no PCT and thinks 4 weeks won`t shut your test.
What about other types of PEDS. Any experience with EPO, Stimulants, Nootropics, Betablockers? i realise most of these are not common for weightlifting but still curious.
It's so weird looking back 10 years ago, in highschool, when I knew sooo many guys on various levels of gear. Only one guy was impressive (he benched 100kgx40+ reps when he was 16-17 lol)
Leaving a comment for the algorithm, but I will also ask a question in hopes that it gets answered. How do I know when I am ready for greater frequency? I am in a GPP phase that looks a lot like super total training which will slowly transition into Strongman training when I have access to those implements. Is it better to do six or seven days a week when my frequency is at its highest or six or seven sessions on 3 to 4 days a week making it that I’m training every other day?
Excellent video. I am in the military, and I have noticed that the standards have ever so slightly changed with the advent of the Internet and access to “certain things.” I have also noticed that physical fitness standards have increased dramatically even expectations in certain “schools” are vastly elevated and most certainly tailored towards enhanced individuals. Like there will be preparation programs that are just impossible for most people to sustain that type of volume, and you look at the people who can do it, and you begin asking those questions. Unfortunately, PED’s are still taboo to speak on even though so many people are on them. But what a lovely video I hope people don't ruin this type of content. You all are amazing.
No question on gear advice. Just wondering if you have to take enough gear to pee straight Coca cola or if some weak Coffee is already enough, to become an honorary member of Sikastan? Kidney's are probably fucked Esther way, but at least it's good for the algorythm.
Could you speak to use of PEDs being used for coming back from injury and getting through physical therapy more quickly? I've asked my doctor about it before and she was just like, "Drugs for coming back from injury... nah... those don't exist."

Normally yes. PEDs by themselves will not cause a heart attack. They will increase likelihood but chances are your father was doing a bunch of other things that are conducive to having cardiac issues. Diet being the big one.
