Repairing a Mafell MT55 plunge saw that won't start up.

Although expensive and probably not much difference to the other brands out there. But I must say after owning a Mafell KSS400 for the last 10 years that it is the best multi purpose saw I've ever used. The motor is simply superb cuts everything i've put it to. Coupled with the flexi rail and the bosch rails and it's a track saw/plunge saw cutting station. Just my opinion but I think the quality is great wouldn't be without it. Saves taking a portable table saw to the job site on most occasions. Feels very solidly built unlike the Makita I tried which felt plasticky to me at least. Highly recommended if you can try one.

it's an easy skill to aquire, at least for the basic functions. took me a couple hours but now i can use it rather confidently, and it's helped me a ton!

All you really need to know for testing on switches/power cords is how to test for continuity. Continuity is basically checking if power can flow from point A, to point B. To test a power cord, you will set your multimeter to continuity testing mode, place one lead on one end of your power cord, other lead on other end of power cord, if it beeps, you know power can flow through that line. You then know your power cord is not the issue. And with a switch, you put your leads on the terminals, there should be no beep, because the switch is always closed. When you press the button, it makes a connection to allow power to run through it. Which means your multimeter should beep. Of course there are switches that are always open, and when you press the button, it will close, so in that case the beep will stop when the button is pressed.... You should start with learning continuity, then expand your knowledge from there. I'm sure there are tons of UA-cam videos on it, if you're interested. 👍

Mafell is technically super popular, it's just that most people can't/don't want to afford it. The only reason why I'm using Makita saws is because I can't afford the Mafell saws.

i couldnt afford a festool but i saved for it and bought one i looked at makita and other and found out that the overall quality isnt that good for what you pay so i spend 600bucks on the ts55 and i dont regret it since

Only reason to buy the Mafell over others is the guide rail. It's flexible and rolls up so it can be stored in the box. Aside from that they're all the same really.

Never owned a Mafell. Too dear. Never owned a Festool. Same reason. Have used a fair few Festool tools. Hate them. Apart from their original plunge saw. Have owned or used most other brands over the last 40 odd years. Outright power. No finesse. Milwaukee. Reasonable grunt. Rough and ready. Dewalt. More finesse. Less power. Makita. OK when they are working. Break a lot. Bosch. Reasonable. But a bit odd ball. Hikoki. Do love their cordless nail guns though. My pick of the lot. Makita. Ergonomically good. Lovely control. Work well. Last well. And you don't pay through the nose for them.

On top of the handle on the side there is a button. Depress that then pull back the red lever on top and the right side panel falls open. The arbor is locked so it's a simple one-wrench removal of the nut, the wrench (Allen key) fits in the shoe/base.

You strike me as someone who hasn’t owned much Mafell or Festool. Lamello’s 50% a cheap Metabo grinder. Still gonna cost you a grand. That’s how much you sell things for when it’s not assembled in China and you’re a one thousandth the scale of Black and Decker, Makita, TTI and so on. Mafell in particular primarily makes timber framing equipment. I can confirm they’re not exactly flying off the shelves nor remotely capable of tiny home store margins.

1. what is wrong with a basic switch? Easy to replace, don’t have to replace the whole controller unit like some Dewallt or Makita tools.
I barely see him repairing mafell, Festool or Just sometimes Hilti. Why is that? Yes, they don’t fail as much as dewalt, Milwaukee or makita.
Bosh professional ist not the same as it has been. There are some very cheep tools now in the blue line which in my point of view should have been green ones.

Mafell are great for heavy timber working tools... but only buy the ones that other manufacturers don't produce.. Makita fills in the gap where their big tools compare to Mafell's..

Meaning cheap plastic, breaks down due to some stupid parts like a $40 plastic car part cost $3,000 to repair. Good old days, things of heavy metal lasts generations all it needed was a ground wire and a fast ground fault/arc fault circuit breaker without the nuisance trip.

@@kimchee94112 The idea is to provide passive safety without being reliant on a ground that may be broken due to damaged cords etc. So all European power tools must be class 2 (double insulated) and in theory you shouldn't ever get a ground fault; if a wire breaks it will touch the plastic lining not the outer metal case. Also our site tools have a special yellow plug that doesn't fit the wall outlet, only to be used with a center-tapped portable transformer, so you can't get a lethal shock because the maximum possible touch voltage (to ground) is 55v.
