I glad I watched. I thought I was the only one having issues with my mechanical releaser with the sap building up in the upper manifold.

Had the same releaser for a few years
    Fought the same issue constantly
Finally built a 4x4 insulated shed and put an electric releaser in. Made life so much better. Nofa VT organic requires us to have all tanks covered also

We are planning to build a shelter over this guy! We've been meaning to. Now that we have a sawmill - we can make our own lumber! Probably should build a little cover to keep the releaser from icing up, too. That's the worst!

Mechanical releasers are a nightmare, electric releasers for the win

Mechanical releasers are definitely a lot more maintenance. But are sometimes the only option. If someone has an option - definitely go electric releaser with a submersible pump!

How many buckets could you have collected in the time that it took you to fix the releaser? Just kidding.

Can't thank you enough for this video. Have the same releaser that I bought used this year from a maple producers widow. Can't find anything about this system I think they went out of business. No labels to look up and the vacuum line is dated 2009. But dang.... works like a charm just from your help.
    Thanks for your time

Have fun at the movies later with your son. I just came up with a good "Dad" joke that will make him chuckle. You can say to him "Did you hear that Batman got sick ?" and then wait for him to say no, and reply with "Yeah I heard he caught Poison Ivy........." hehehe. He should get it, but it might take him a second. I don't know how familiar you are with Batman and all the characters in the comic, but one of the villians he fights is a woman called "Poison Ivy" who has special powers to control plants. So it's a funny play on words I just thought of.

I got you, brother. Gives him one more reason to roll his eyes at old dad!

I have the same releaser. Mine is set up so the rubber coupling is fitted onto the pvc with the o-ring. I don’t have a clamp around the o-ring so when it switches it turns within the coupling. Only clamp needed is on top of coupling. Although my releaser is in the sugar house. Maybe a very flexible vacuum pipe would be ideal. Yes the elbow needs to be solid.

That's smart. I never thought of that. The Vacuum will pull it tight. So you put the food grade lubricant on the fernco?

I have food grade lubricant on the o-ring and every other moving parts. However I wonder if it would work on your set up since your vacuum feed line is at an arch. I’ve seen many set up with a soft flexible vacuum line which takes less force off the elbow when it switches. My pvc pipe is fixed above the releaser and I position the releaser, which sits on tank, directly under the fernco coupling. Unfortunately you have frost movement to deal with. Flexible pipe seems best.
