    the MES-432D9D is scaleable.... and how you'd take 30mins!! to get something good out of it is mind blowing the thing sounds incredible

      Not as nice as the Maselec to my ears...💁‍♂️

    Could you review the MJUC Compressor? Your input is greatly appreciated.

    You have to be joking about the sontec, its a much better emulation over all in terms of how accurate it is. All taste I suppose.
    Also, Solo < Mute all day.
    Soloing a band does not represent the sound of the track as a whole. MEs always are A/Bing to see if they are making improvement or just making changes.
    These really are two different EQs with different characters, I like both

    Yeah, I think ya gotta give the Sontec another look, and pay close attention to the Logo Menu. The analog box tone settings alone are worth it. I was just trying the demo on some client work and with the curve visualizer and the general tone shapes I was able to dial in exactly what I was looking for in seconds. It's _really_ good.

      (I will grant that it is expensive as #$%#$ for a plugin. I mean sheesh. But it's definitely reaaaaal good, and super light on the CPU, which is extra handy)

    I love what you guys do but I would take another look at the Sontec it’s on every master I do - the saturation/pushing is fantastic combines with subtle EQ sweetening - I think it was worth it (I did get it for $99 though). I’ll compare the Relab as well out of curiosity.

    • @richertz
      @richertz Рік тому +2

      Just to add I tried both, not feeling the Relab for mastering at all sorry - Sontec is much sweeter sounding. Also as mentioned all the scaleability options are there along with a graph view mode - please do have another look, I really rate this plugin _ was able to get similar settings when I tried, but still prefer the sontec for the saturation. I will add neither are shit - both great plugins.

    • @StudioLife101
      @StudioLife101  Рік тому +3

      Should a mastering eq have saturation? They are designed to be completely transparent...but still, the Relab wins for me...👍

    • @richertz
      @richertz Рік тому

      @@StudioLife101 that would be a good debate, does that mean hardware (which would normally have saturation/distortion) is not for mastering applications? Honestly though both are good I have a hard time deciding, but you know for the money get both - plugins are cheap compared to hardware. I totally get why you like the Relab. It sounds great.

    • @StudioLife101
      @StudioLife101  Рік тому +1

      @@richertz I've sat in so many mastering sessions over the years and I've never heard one tiny bit of saturation that wasn't done on purpose and that's really only become a thing in recent years. I mastered an album today using the Maselec and it was perfect...used it in conjunction with the spl PQ, Gainlab Dictator and some analogue tape emulation...(Yes...tape style saturation). Horses for courses init? We're lucky to have so many choices..👍

    • @richertz
      @richertz Рік тому

      @@StudioLife101totally agree as I play with the Maselec I agree. I’ve even used both together with the Sontec in a track I’m working on and it gets a little bit too good 😂 a little of each - oh it’s Christmas and I wanted a new plugin ho ho ho! It’s a lot cheaper than the real thing and that’s worth remembering.

    I have the IK Multimedia 432 and the Make believe Sontec... they sound similar but I prefer the Sontec coz the low-end sounds wider

    I already have Acustica Ivory 5 and IK Master EQ 432 and have seen comparisons (plus with the hardware) and compared via blindtests myself (Nugen AB Assist 2 + GainMatch) and although there are differences I would say they are all very close and it is down to personal preference. I would want the 2 here purely due to the fact they look exactly like the hardware, but appearance aside I actually prefer the Ivory to the Relab, and the IK and MH I could happily take either, so I am good with what I have. Would be interested in hearing your opinions between each.

    Does anyone percieve a smear in the Maselec's low frequencies? I love what it does with the separation and the rest, but low end seem to be smothered. At the same time Sontec appears to have less width, but the clarity of the low end is amazing.

      it kind of smooth out the sound, the hardware does that, punchy but smooth, but i would say it sound more true to the source, it doesnt resonate on the bass it doesnt adds any saturation at all, very clean but with something i can't understand, but elegant big sound and i like ie and using lot more than sontec

  • @theocorfiatis8456

    I compared both plugins and Relab doesn't come close to the Make Believe Studio (Metric Halo) version in terms of sound. I have the Acustica Ivory version of the Sontec and again the Metric halo destroys it in terms of sound quality. The Relab was similar to the Acustica Ivory. There's a huge difference in the way these plugins model the sound. The Acustica ones use impulse responses and the Metric Halo ones use State Variable modeling. Two very different methods, and worth looking into the differences these approaches produce in terms of sound. I totally disagree with your conclusions. But it's up to people to try these plugins out and see what they think.....

    Curious to hear what you think about the Relab's width and separation. It's *significantly* wider and more separate than anything else out there, including the hardware. So much so that I'm not sure how I feel about it. Is it a new plateau? Too much?

    • @StudioLife101
      @StudioLife101  Рік тому

      Haven't AB'd with the hardware....but it doesn't sound overly wide to me... Leaving it flat adds next to nothing to my ears. 👍

  • @HoneyB_kyoto

    It’s scalable for sure (click on the SONTEC logo, you can visualize curves too, add transformers aka warm mode and many others utilities )
    In comparison the Maselec relab trim the transients and is muddy in the low mid ( maybe because of 1.0 v..?)
    the Sontec sounds sublime if I may, it make everything sounds better with a simple dig at 170hz and 800hz add to this 0,5 at 10k and you’re like WTF it’s the first time I use a plugin that sounds so good - and yeah the gran daddy of parametric EQ Burgess Macneal (who created the Sontec) is also recognizing this plugin
    They did the same move from the maker of he maselec but TBH I was so happy when they released it, launched the demo of the maselec next to the Sontec on the same track - mind blowing the difference is - may I ask you, why don’t you make a video A/B ing the same track, same part of track with these two? The difference is so obvious I don’t understand why one would prefer the Relab Maselec - Anyway thanks for the Channel

    Crazy, the Sontec is the most analog-sounding EQ plugin... EVER. Not an exaggeration. And yes, it is scaleable & yes, you can easily solo bands, it has everything. You must have spent 2 minutes trying it. Garbage review.

      @@StudioLife101 seems like everyone agrees with me. Sontec isn't just another plugin, it's really something completely different. No, I don't work for metric, honestly I waited for almost a year for them to come to windows & got it the first day. It's at a completely different level to everything else out there. Boost for days & it still sounds clear & smooth with no artifacts. Not the case with any other EQ plugins, even Acustica has tons of artifacts past a certain point.

      @@nexusart sontec is very different from maselec, for certain music sontec is perfect, for other tunes is lot better the maselec, they are not comparable really because they do two very different things, i have both, i'm using lot more time the maselec because is more transparent and sound more big more clean and more smooth, and i add color with other things if i need... on some tune sontec adds a very nice bite to the sound, firm and organic sound, on some tune Scarlet wins over the mh sontec....these are all great eqs, is more about to know what e when to use one in a real job stuation
