- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- "Yours Is No Disgrace" is a progressive rock track by the British band **Yes**, featured on their 1971 album *The Yes Album*. The song is known for its complex structure, blending intricate instrumental passages, dynamic shifts, and sophisticated lyrics.
Musically, the song showcases *Steve Howe’s* guitar work, blending acoustic and electric sections with impressive precision. The rhythm section, featuring *Chris Squire* on bass and *Bill Bruford* on drums, creates a tight, powerful foundation, complemented by *Tony Kaye's* keyboard textures. *Jon Anderson's* distinctive vocals deliver thought-provoking lyrics, which are often interpreted as anti-war, reflecting on themes of personal responsibility and societal struggles.
The song's extended instrumental sections and the improvisational feel in the live versions made it a staple in Yes's concerts, showcasing their musicianship and progressive vision. "Yours Is No Disgrace" remains one of the band's early masterpieces, contributing to their rise as icons of the progressive rock genre.

Do they have better songs than this one???
Yes, well they have a zillion amazing songs. This song is best live I think, due to the extended jams. If you want to get your mind blown out your head by Yes, listen to everything on Close To The Edge, Relayer, and Going For The One. Or earlier tracks Starship Trooper (live), South Side Of the Sky, I've Seen All Good People, Heart of the Sunrise, and Chris Squire, Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman doing solos live on video. Also Jon Anderson's solo stuff - he has a million amazing songs he did without Yes, and I highly recommend seeing Jon live with The Band Geeks, they are on tour now.
Welcome to the rabbit hole! And welcome to the other side. Believe it or not, there are BETTER Yes songs! You will never be the same - LOL! The three most widely recognized albums of brilliance are The Yes Album, Fragile and Close To the Edge. Consider heading over to Close to the Edge. I' suggest that you start with side B and ease yourself in with two most incredible songs (And You And I, Siberian Khatru) followed by the title track.
YES, Yes, Finish the Fragile Album.... Just like other have said.
Close to the Edge - title track. I'm warning you... 🙂
Listen to YESSONGS LIVE, ALL SONGS ARE FANTASTIC & ITS JUST A SMALL FRACTION OF WHAT THEY'VE DONE❤
And You and I, Starship trooper, Heart of the Sunrise, Close to the Edge, Awaken, Turn of the Century, The Ancient, and on and on. They are the best prog band ever. They are life changing.
This right here list ⬆️
You are on the top side of the deep rabbit hole with the music of Yes. Take your time going through their music and enjoy every second.
You ain't seen nothin yet. Keep diving
YES❣️❣️❣️The greatest band on this or any other planet❗️❗️❗️🚀🚀🚀⭐️⭐️⭐️🛸🛸🛸👍😎
Just "Close your eyes and listen." As most of us Yes fans well know, Yes music requires the listener to immerse themselves, within the privacy of one's own head, and with repeated listenings; therefore to allow the music to carry you on a journey within one's own soul. With Peace and Love to all! (Michael)
YES is the most unique band ever, and while Yours is no Disgrace is one of the greatest songs, their epics are mind altering. I would suggest stay in The Yes Album, Starship Trooper, Perpetual Change, and I've Seen All Good People are all fantastic. Then move to the next album in YES time, Fragile. Then just follow the albums as they were released. That's the way us long time fans learned to love their compositions. An absolutely epic reaction! Peace.
I've Seen All Good People is a great one to go to next.🤘🤘
Awaken is a MUST!
Glad you appreciate this group of fantastic musicians! One of the best bands of all time, IMO. I don't think any bands make music like theirs nowadays.
Steve Howe is one of THE most underrated guitarists in rock!
Not at all. He won the Guitar Player award so many times in the 70s that they had to give others a chance. Here in the UK he was a God.
If you want to strap in and really explore Yes progressive sound try the song Close to the Edge. Possibly the benchmark in Progressive music
Yes had the normal complement of band members, a drummer, a lead guitarist, a bass guitar, a keyboardist, and a lead singer who actually could dablle with some oddball percussion and a symphony-style harp, but mostly just sang. They did have an inventive bass player, Chris Squire (R.I.P) whe often gets credited for originating the concept of "lead bass". He's all over the place in this song, not just part of a drums-bass rhythm section. He's playing counter-melodies, too. Then we have the guy I'd name as my favorite lead guitarist of all time, Steve Howe. He owned a collection of about 40 different guitars, and we heard about a dozen of them here. He could do that in a stuido with a multi-track tape machine, and he still managed to astound with a simple electric-acoustic duo onstage. In fact the 1973 triple live Yessongs album has an extended middle section in Yours is No Disgrace featuring a Howe solo where he goes completely ape shit and amazes the entire musical universe. All these guys were really great musicians, if not the very best on their instrument, and never had a problem with empty spaces in their songs. I do have to say, though, that the keyboard guy on The Yes Album, Tony Kaye, got kicked out of the band for refusing to add all of the then new-fangled synthetic keyboard sounds to his piano and Hammond organ act. He was replaced with Rick Wakeman, a classiclly trained keyboard wizard, and a 6'5" silver-sequin caped master of dozens of synths in addition to organ and piano. He is widely recognized as the first guy to encircle himself onstage with racks of keyboards stacked one above the other, and with Howe's 40 or so different guitars, and Wakemen's dozen or so stacked keyboards, you do end up hearing all sorts of musical instruments in every song by Yes.
Many consider CLOSE TO THE EDGE their finest ever .
That Album is always considered in the Top One of the greatest Prog Albums , Ever .
Bro this is a Vibe...!
Let's Gooooooo...
😆 if you select any song from The Yes Album, or Fragile, or Close to the Edge, or Tales from Topographic Oceans, or Relayer, or Going for the One, you will repeat... "that's the best song I've ever heard"... And you will say the same thing for most of the songs on any of their other albums... and we're not even talking about their live versions, some of which are even better than the studio versions (Yessongs' Perpetual Change or Starship Trooper, Yesshows' Ritual, 2003 Montreux version of South Side of the Sky, which is in a UA-cam video...) And that was just your first reaction... After you heard it several times, you will start finding more details, hidden gems... Yes provides a lifetime of listening... Love your reaction.
Check out "Close to the Edge", an 18 minute classic by Yes
…also if you want to taste THE progressive of progressive rock, try Gentle Giant.
Great reaction!!! You have no idea of the Pandora’s box you are operating for yourself 😊the greatest show on earth… YES !!! My favorite band. Also listen to , I’ve seen all good People, Starship Trooper and Perpetual Change from this YES album 1971 . You already listened to Roundabout from The Fragile album 1972. Also listen to South side of the sky, Heart of the Sunrise and Long distance run around with the Fish, again on the album Fragile 1972. Then listen to Clise to the Edge 1972. You’ll be blown away my Freind. 21 studio albums. You’ve got some catching up to do 😊Enjoy
Wow! What an intense reaction! Yes, it was. Did you like this one better than Roundabout? I think they're about a tie. But you said you don't think another song could beat this one? You have to listen to 'Awaken', off of the Yes, 'Going for the One' album. That actually beats both the above-mentioned songs. It will take you on a magic carpet ride to the cosmos!
1. SIBERIAN KHATRU .
2. SOUTH SIDE OF THE SKY .
3. SOUND CHASER .
ERROR: The original lyric is "armies gather near" - but so many people misheard it as "scatter the earth" that Jon began singing it that way (as per the Yessongs album/film).
ISSUE: Obviously this is a review rather than a reaction - Rivaldo has heard it at least once before.
COMMENTS: Has Rivaldo not heard a wah-wah pedal before?! And did he get the Vietnam War imagery? He probably didn't get the musical reference to the Magnificent Seven theme tune....Of course this song has fallen victim to "sampling/quotation syndrome" - I wonder how many latterday fans hear the intro-riff and have to restrain themselves from singing "You're such a baby baby girl..."
You haven't even touched the service of the YES experience. There are only five members of the band at a time. All the instruments were played by them. Granted, there were a few bandmember changes over the years, but usually only five members. Listen to "And You and I" the studio version ... it will blow you away. Then watch the Live version so you can see the instrumentation by the bandmembers. Unbelievable.
Great reactions my friend, since you're on the prog trip may I suggest King Crimson's 21st Century Schizoid Man' ? I think you'll like it.....
You'd love Rush 'Camera Eye'. (and any other Rush song)
Mannn You have been missin out, I have reacted to it already, on of my faf songs by them
@@theneverenderreacts I'll be sure to check it out. I just found you today so you'll need to forgive me. 😄
lol nah have fun!!! a lot of videos here!!
Do the song called clap live yes
So called called, now, progressive Rock bands back then never were striving to in a genre, just creating new and great music. Genesis is another band around this time very different than this. React to The Firth of Fight by Genesis and you will understand what I am talking about. Say what I mean and mean what I say. Can already till you will love. Peace and love from America.😊
Listen to Release Release off of Tormato.
Great reaction! They wanted to make a cool song and they did, they weren’t concerned with money or a billion plays on Spotify, or ‘likes’, they did whatever they wanted.
The most epic YES song of all, is called “close to the edge“; but you have to take a break and get ready for it.
😊“Close to the edge“ is 18 minutes long. That song is a complete journey. It’s a trip, So be prepared.
Heart Of The Sunrise for the BASS!
Listen to Yes "Starship Trooper" "Heart of the Sunrise" "Close to the Edge". You're just getting started. One of the best bands of all time.
ALL OF THE ABOVE!! And then everything else
It's Steve Howe on guitar. This whole song is a tour-de-force by Howe.
What did I tell you? The best progressive rock band to ever grace the planet earth. Full stop. If I remember correctly, YES has TWENTY THREE studio albums for you to enjoy. Next songs to choose from...Starship Trooper...Perpetual Change...there's a lot to listen to. My favorite band for the last 50 years. Thanks !!! again for the reaction. LET'S GO !!!
You need to hear 'Starship Trooper'!🤩
👍😎
AH my friend! I'm so glad you took me up on my suggestion! Love your channel and reactions!
Awesome! Thank you!
PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS SONG LIVE ON " YESSONGS" IN FACT LISTEN TO THE ENTIRE ALBUM, YOU WILL LOVE IT! LIVE AT THE RAINBOW 1972 ITS SO MUCH BETTER!!❤🎉🎉🎉🎉 I'VE SEEN THEM FROM 1973 TO 1984 EVERY SHOW THE PHILADELPHIA SPECTRUM 😂😊❤
Try Starships Trooper from the same album.... Then the spiritual song.... Awakening......From their...Going for the one. album.
What you thought was a piano was actually Steve Howe on Guitar, and the sound that you didn't know what it was - that was Steve Howe. He is a FIVE times winner of Guitar Player magazine's Best Overall Guitarist Award. My suggestion, as I commented before, is to continue with The Yes Album, then go forward to their next album. So your next songs should be I've Seen All Good People , and Starship Trooper.
Dude, you are the sh!#. I mean it in the most respectful way. ROCK ON
Thank you brother!
@theneverenderreacts
Roundabout if you want to rock out. Awaken if you want to go to Church. Sound Chaser for your jazz fix and CLOSE TO THE EDGE the greatest prog rock journey ever written. Just to name a few
🍁🙏🍁
I take it you enjoyed this song😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
This is for the soldiers returning from Vietnam. A war we arguably lost. The soldiers were spit upon.
They were lucky they were only spat upon. Under Nuremberg Principles IV and VI, they were prima facie guilty of war crimes in an illegal war of aggression against a country fighting for its independence and which posed no threat to the US.
Dude! Love your enthusiasm! You've just scratched the surface of YES's incredible library of amazement. Suggestion: move through chronologically. Can't wait to see your reaction to the Close to the Edge album.
Love to see people enjoying discovering YES as I once did. You are just putting your toe in the water. Based on this reaction, you are going to explode when you hear some of the others. The best song you ever heard until CTTE or Awaken. Keep going….
YES, the greatest show on earth. Great reaction! Enjoy your YES journey. Might as well listen to the rest of the album
✨️🎶👑🎶✨️
The greatest!🤩
The instrument you asked about was a guitar through a Wah peddle.
3 more songs that need to be heard next are Starship Trooper, And You and I and Siberian Khatru alll are just as good and many more after them.
6 Yes albums from 1970 starting with The Yes Album 1970 to t977 Going for the One are Yes classic gems Close to the Edge is the greatest prog album of all time.
Drama bruh
I'm sure you'll get tons of great suggestions for which YES tune should be next. I'll throw in "South Side of the Sky" which is an amazing listen. Cheers!
*Starship Trooper* & then *Siberian Khatru* are two more of their undisputed masterpieces. Every minute of them is rapturously good. After those, you might want to stick with their 3 Uber Classic albums ( *The Yes Album, Fragile, & Close To The Edge* ) for a while because their creativity at that time was at its zenith. You will totally enjoy all of these songs from those albums:
*Perpetual Change* (The Yes Album)
*Heart Of The Sunrise* (Fragile)
*South Side Of The Sky* (Fragile)
*And You And I* (Close To The Edge)
*I've Seen All Good People* (The Yes Album)
*Close To The Edge* (Close To The Edge)
After those, there are many more masterpieces on subsequent albums, some of them astoundingly good
You'll see...😊
Hi Rivaldo, I'm glad you like this marvel.
Listen to the 72´s version on Yessongs, it's incredible.
When (in min 4.05) you say "that piano sound", it's Steve's guitar (same at 6.25).
Regards, Máximo
OK I get you like this and you like Roundabout. Now what I would like to know is what you make of Sound Chaser.
Heart of the Sunrise will knock your socks off!
Ty for reaction sir! Here for your Yes journey.
"And You and I" next, or "Wonderous Stories"
What a song! What a bass! What a reaction! Try "Siberian Khatru" by them, it WILL blow you away! Trust me
DUDE... don't bend your mind trying to figure out what the songs mean. There are NO DEEP Meanings, no stories, to these tunes, just Lyrics that assist in making the music.
not true, most of their songs have meaning and a theme, the words tend to be a little abstract at times. This was a song protesting about the Vietnam war, where returning soldiers were being blamed for their part in it while other Americans were enjoying themselves at caesers palace
@@martinreed5964exactly and completely true; the wolfhound was an aircraft extensively used by the Air Force. Jon Anderson’s lyrics always, always have meaning behind them. I think he just got tired of trying to answer the same old questions about their meaning and chose to play it off as just words for their sound’s sake.
What a happy man!
And what a wonderful prog rock song!
Great reaction, I love the way you love this band, now I think you are ready for the album Close To The Edge.
You are going to say “the best song” for all of their songs lol! Especially Close To The Edge. I saw Steve Howes YES three weeks ago. Never missed a Yes tour since 75. It literally changes lives.
Their magnus opus is Close To The Edge! I think you are ready. Buckle up and put on your helmet buddy!!
That bass line is so aggressive it should be arrested for assault.
You rock!!!!!! Yes is the best!!!!!
👍☮️👑🐍🙏😎
I came from your post! Thanks
...take your pick...this track...Close To The Edge (the whole album)...."Gates of Delirium" "Awaken" ..... or a dozen other masterpiece offerings.... Yes, they stomped the terra.
Awaken call album.
Yes
Tony Kaye who was a founding member and keyboardist for the British progressive rock band 'YES', although he is a masterful musician was fired by the group and replaced by a genius on the keyboards, synthesizer, organ and piano Rick Wakeman in 1971. On the 'Relayer' album released back in 1974 a Swiss keyboardist Patrick Moraz replaced Rick and joined and recorded with 'YES'. He was outstanding on the keys in his own right. He arranged funk and jazz fusion incorporated on the album. "Gates of Delirium" a musical masterpiece followed by the delightful song "Soon" a couple tracks from the 'Relayer' album are worth checking out.🔍💫🎤🎸🎹🎹🥁🔊🔥☮🎧
moraz was sacked after one album because his ego was out of control
Subscribed. What a lovely reaction! Happy to join you on a journey that will take you places you never dreamed about. And it is generally only 5 guys on normal instruments.
Which they use to weave magic ❤
You’ve heard this fairly early song, and a song from their 80s incarnation. That both are so strong is a reflection of how good this band is.
If you really want to hear the best song you’ve ever heard, it has to be Close to the Edge 😊❤
Now I have to see what else you’ve done 😊
Thank you brother
Some other awesome Yes songs are "Awaken" and "Endless Dream." Btw, great reaction.
Yes is ultimate! You like prog? Can I suggest another classic prog band? Genesis. My first song suggestion by them is “Return of the Giant Hogweed”
Great to see you enjoy this so much. Came out when I was at school and we were blown away by it. Keep digging into Yes. Thanks fro reviewing. Close to the Edge is more challenging especially the first discordant section but worth every minute of investment.
You could reasonably start with their first album & go through every song !
It's real difficult to find a less than Epic tune , particularly in their first 5-6 Albums.
Saw them twice at the Height of their Creative powers ('73 & '75) .
I’m really enjoying your reactions to the music of an exceptionally talented group of musicians.
Please, if possible, react to Gabriel Hneique and Kevz, Love In The Dark(spanish version), in the Kevin's UA-cam channel(Kevin&KKarla ). So beautiful, emotional and magical.
And, yes, as you could probably tell, the lyrics are in fact about soldier shipping out to Viet Nam, honoring them.
9 minutes felt like 1? Wait until you get to close to the edge...with your enthusiasm and gyrations... Keep an oxygen tank close for the 20 minute ride you are going to take. Then siberean khatru will finish you off.
The perfect prog ROCK song....
Your reaction pretty much mirrors mine., and that's been happening for fifty years with me. No other band is anything like Yes.
Heart of the Sunrise, Wonderous Stories and Perpetual Change would be a good start. It only gets better after that.
I rarely see recommendations to listen to the live album Yessongs, because the recording quality isn’t the best, but in my opinion, the incredible performances make up for that. Unbelievable energy and masterful precision in a live performance. It will always be my favorite album from Yes or anyone else.
Guitar, Steve Howe is playing an electric guitar at 6:20, that's all.
I’ll be 70 next month. This is what we listened to when we got high.
Not as many instruments as you think. They're just good.
That whole song is just a guitar, an organ and synthesizer, a bass guitar, and drums.
Oh Yeah.... you're just getting started....
Their Close to the edge (18:43) sounds like even more instruments.
The sound in the left ear on the intro/repeated bit is overdriven Hammond organ!
Try Sound Chaser on the Yes album Relayer
YES! 😊 Great song, great reaction!!
Try Bruford album "one of a kind".
SEE the human race. Am I wrong?
Their best song is Close to the edge
And star ship trooper
high vibration go on!!
More to come.
Love You!!!!! 💙🎵🎶🎶
Try And You and I
5 or 6 guys ?
