I have a gold, a blue, and a pearl in the same tank together. They each are very nice. The blue is unique and eye catching. Buuut. The colours and pattern on the pearl is by far the most exquisite and beautiful.
Hi there! Keeping different species of Gourami together can be complicated - sometimes it'll work without any issues, and other times it won't work at all. We personally opt to only keep one type of anabantid per aquarium! If you do choose to keep them together, be sure to watch them closely and be prepared to intervene if necessary!
Great question! Mixing gourami species can be a challenge - sometimes they'll get along great, and sometimes they won't. In our opinion, keeping a Pearl Gourami with Honey Gouramis should be okay (provided the tank is large enough - around 50 gallons / 200 L), but keep an eye on them for any aggression!
I've just bought a pair of pearl gurami's today but have realised when I got them home that their colours have dulled down a lot, and have also gone into hiding at the back of the tank over by the filter, so my question is, What do you feed them in order for them to reach their full colour potential, and will they eventually come out of hiding and interact more ?
Hi there! It's normal for fish to be shy and slightly dull in color when first introduced to an aquarium. Give them a week or two, feed them Bug Bites flakes and granules, and they'll be out and looking spectacular in no time! 👍
@@fluval thanks for the reply, they've been in the tank for roughly 7 hours now and have began to venture out a lot more around the tank, I'm surprised really on how fast they seemed to have came out of their shell, seems like I was worried over nothing, and by the way, thanks for the info on feeding, I can't wait for these guys to mature get their colours like the ones in this video, thanks again.
It's hard to say - Tiger Barbs can be vicious! We personally don't keep them in any of our tanks because their fin-nipping always causes problems, but besides that they're perfectly compatible with Pearl Gouramis. If you know how to make them play nicely with their tankmates, then go for it! 😅
I suggest an alternative with the ,,Black Ruby Barbs'' even if this name is more for the males. They can go blacker (+ with some red on their body too) when in breeding mode ..but the females look rather / kinda like the tiger barbs 😄 (they also have stripes on their body). I had this kind of fish for years and they are pretty chill / mind their own business as long as you have at Ieast 5 of them in the same tank (they like to be with some of their own species). I had fish with longer fins too but these Black Ruby Barbs didn't bother those fish (I didn't see any nipping of fins in years).
I'm no expert but I've read online that the males fight so you should keep the males to a minimum. I've read that 1 male and 1-2 females is a small enough group but any more isn't considered small. I have a 29 gallon tank and apparently it wouldn't be recommended for me to exceed 3 in that tank and definitely no more than 1 male
Hi there! We don't recommend keeping Pearl and Honey Gouramis together - the Pearls might harass the Honeys since they are larger, and keeping multiple species of labyrinth fish together in an aquarium often leads to fighting, even if the species are generally peaceful. With regards to Angelfish, yes, you can probably keep them with Pearl Gouramis, but keep an eye out for any aggression and make sure your tank is large enough to accomodate them!
Is keeping one solo just as good for them as in a group? I would like to make a community tank with schooling fish, 1 male pearl gourami and 1 male Bolivian ram.
@tcwarnaar As Fluval said, Pearl Gouramis get along great with other fish that aren’t the same species. My female Pearl Gourami swims alongside the other fish I have in the tank with feeder goldfish, guppies, Checkered Rainbowfish, orangethroat darters, zebra danios, Kulhi loaches, and ghost shrimp. Nobody bothers her so she and everybody else must be happy together.
Hey, I have a question that may sound stupid. I wonder how is it possible to hold fish in the United States and other countries in the world. In Germany you can drink the tap water and its even healthier than bottle water. So its also perfect for fish (depends of course the hardness degree) . But in united states you cant drink the water because of chlorine and stuff, right? So I wonder where the fresh water for the tanks come from? Are you buying big water bottles? Or are you using the tap water anyway? Or are you using a special filter? Thanks for answer :)
Hi there! Tap water in most parts of the US is completely safe to drink. Various products can be added to tap water to make it safe for fish - for example, Fluval AquaPlus removes chlorine and chloramine, detoxifies heavy metals, includes herbal extracts to reduce fish stress and protects fish scales and fins from minor scrapes and cuts!
They main thing I like about the Pearl Gouramis is that they are friendIier / less territorial / less aggressive. But never was a fan of their look / body area ..cuz at the head they are cute enough. (personal taste / preference).. I don't Iike those (kinda) big spots on them (and there are lots of them) ..looks like they are having some nasty ich parasite on them 😅 (they don't have ..but that is where my tought often goes when I see them). 🥴😦 My favorite Gourami is the blue version (blue is also my main favorite color). But the bIue version can be aggressive / territorial (espcially the males). It can be tricky / difficuIt to make the blue gourami work with other gourami or with other type of fishes too. But there can be some solutions.. like a bigger tank / planted tank ..or even a bunch of gouramis in the same tank / to spread the potential aggresion instead of a fish focusing mainly one or two. I have seen some gouramis in a pet shop where they are all in the same tank and they don't seem too aggressive anymore 😂
Absolutely one of my favorite fish. I've kept them off and on for many years. Stunning in good but not harsh lighting. Thank you.
My overall favorite Gourami. :)
Pearls have always been my favorites

The pearl gourami is probably our favorite too! You just can't beat their pattern and colors! 😍
have a few of these in my 53 along with some Blue Gouramis and an assortment of tetras.
Very beautiful fishes awesome video amazing information

What is considered a small group? 2, 3, 4 and can you do all males?

Males will fight! An example of a small group would be 1 male with 3 females.

Can a pair of pearl gourami be kept with 3 pairs of adult guppies in 15gallon tank?..my tank is a planted tank..
Hi there! Unfortunately not - Pearl Gouramis require larger tanks, more in the 30 gallon range!
@@fluval what about dwarft gourami?
Dwarf Gouramis are a good choice for tanks in the 15 gallon range! 👍

What is the male to female ratio, enjoyed this video on the pearl gourami. 👍🏴
One male for every 2-3 females is generally recommended! 👍
