@@vkanthems6744 No, it still classes as an empire. Britain has extensive territory around the world. If the overseas territories are autonomous it doesn’t matter. Even though they are classed as ‘overseas territories’ by the UK government, they are still extensive, widespread and ruled over by a monarch.

@@alantan9863 The Falklands are and were British before Argentina was even a thing. So you cannot return them if they were never theirs. If the Falklands should be Argentine based on the fact that they are closer, it just shows how immature and childish you are. The Falklands, Gibraltar, Dhekelia and Akrotiri and many Caribbean islands are remains of the British Empire, and yes, even though they are now classed as ‘overseas territories’ they are still autonomous states ruled over by Queen Elizabeth II. I could go as far and say that New Zealand, Australia and Canada are still part of the empire seen as they are ruled over by the monarch, but I know that would be quite controversial.

During the Portuguese colonial war period, every man in Portugal was sent to war. While one of my grandfathers was sent to Guiné, the other was sent to Macau to work on the trains (if my memory is correct). My grandfather told me so many interesting things about Macau and Chinese culture that it’s on my bucketlist to visit Macau one day. As a Portuguese myself, and with friends from Macau as well as Brazil and Angola, I always feel a connection, even though we were all born after the independence.

Hong Kong was a handover which meant that Britain had to give it back to China.
Macau was a transition which meant that Macau belong to Portugal, but Portugal didn’t want Macau anymore so they decided to give it away to China.

CGP Grey said Macao was given to Portugal with Cash. Since China was not satisfied with their economy after the Hong Kong Handover so they asked Portugal if they could have Macao. Portugal didn't want Macao anymore anyways because they were trying to forget their colonial imperial past.

    • @mountaindew3201
      @mountaindew3201 4 роки тому

Marcus Vlogger well not really. Most didn’t. It belonged to Portugal. However though with time and with the removal of the military troops 20 yrs prior to the transition. Portugal tried to give to China for years but, there were some complications. Also the United Nations held a vote that there couldn’t be anymore common wealths in the east. So basically Macau belonged to Portugal and you now Portugal no longer wanted to do anything with the city island. No offense.

Read about the history of 500 years ago. The document between Portugal and China, only mentioned China rent a piece land of peninsula to Portugal for them to park their sailing boats, not any official documents saying the land of Macau had given out to Portugal, as well as they didn’t have any wars in between for China to give up Macau to Portugal. But it was long time ago and much far away than Hong Kong and UK. It may hard for you to find those history because they’re all in Chinese as you said you’re from Portugal 🇵🇹. Assuming you’re a Portuguese.

Dang. From 1557 to 1999, Macau was both the first and last European holding in China

Brener Almeida Yet it’s like saying Britain’s Empire shall rise again. Why would you want an empire that treated others under your rule as second class or not even human beings

The dependent British Colonies stills being rich countries for example: Australia, Canada, New Zealand. Every country were better in colonial times without the false feeling of freedom or independence. Now Macau is a China slave like Brazil, Angola and Mozambique stills needs massive international support from USA or also Portugal. Nobody was treated like second class by Portugal in Macau, we're even more compassionate than the chinese and I can affirm that without any fear. The chinese government is a socialist dictatorship and Portugal is a democracy.

Think Positive ++ First, I'm not white your racist piece of shit.
Second, how can you celebrate a city being handed over to genocidal dictators of the Chinese Communist Party?

Gabriel Francisco *Have you already been to China?*
*I've been to China myself, at least 6 times.*
*So I can honestly say that China is now even more capitalist than the United States.*
*Do you even know the real meaning of "communism"?*
*As an American capitalist, I seriously prefer living in Shanghai than NY.*
*It's much more vibrant and the business atmosphere there... my goodness.*
*It's hard to explain, just see it for yourself.*
*Don't be fooled by the name "communist party".*
*"True blue" communism doesn't exist in China anymore, especially after the fall of the USSR.*
*Mao's China has already ended more than 30 years ago. It's not the same China as it was before.*
*That's "Cold War mentality" (capitalism vs communism).*
*Cold war has already ended decades ago. Move on.*
*Capitalism (free trade) is an economic system, not a political one.*
*You can be a capitalist state, while maintaining a "socialist" political system (which China is).*
*Socialism in China is mainly just for political control, but Chinese people are generally "free" to do business.*
*In short, 50% capitalist (economy) - 50% socialist (politics).*
*China is an authoritarian capitalist state, not a communist one.*
*P.S.: I also used to believed "KMT is better than CCP because they are capitalist", especially when I was still a huge fan of China Uncensored.*
*But there's something that they don't tell you.*
*KMT's Republic of China (~1949) has almost the same political system just like CCP's China today.*
*KMT's China was also a one-party authoritarian state, just like CCP's China today.*
*There was no democracy at all.*
*When Chiang Kai-shek and his loyal KMT generals relocated to Taiwan, he declared Martial Law for decades.*
      *It was obviously pure dictatorship.*
*KMT's China was ruled by only 1 man, while CCP's China is controlled by a party with millions of members. It's basically the same for me.*
*The main reason why Taiwan was able to "afford" switching to democracy is simply because they are already a "developed nation" and have already escaped the "middle income trap".*
*But until 1990s, Taiwan was basically a one-party authoritarian state as well, just like in mainland China today.*
*If China switched to democracy too early, it will just be another India.*
      *Mark my words.*
*The good thing about the present Chinese system is it's so progressive that everything in China is growing rapidly.*
*It's easier to implement new policies and new reforms. Everything is well-managed.*
*Unlike in India (conservative), as it's already a democracy, everything would need to go through "due process", resulting to countless red tapes and corruption in the government.*
*In short, nothing gets done in India.*
*The keyword here is DONE, and China gets things DONE faster than India, hence the huge difference on economic growth.*
*It's easier to say "it's just an excuse not to have democracy", especially if you were born in the developed Western world.*
*We didn't experience living during the start of the Industrial Revolution where almost every nation was still an authoritarian dictatorship state (by monarchs).*
*Remember, China is still a DEVELOPING nation, just like most nations in Asia.*
*The Western world has already gone through the peak of industrialization, while most Asian nations haven't.*
*So comparing the Western world to Asia is like comparing a level 1 newbie to a level 99 character on an online game.*
*China has a population of almost 1.4 BILLION people, the largest population on Earth.*
*Meanwhile, Taiwan has only around 20 million.*
*Which do you think is easier to manage and industrialize?*
*I really believe that in less than 100 years, when China is already a developed and industrialized nation, it will eventually turn into a democracy as well.*
      *No doubt about that.*

Think Positive ++ At some point I criticized China's economy?
I am criticizing the fact that Macau in 1999 became a dictatorship.
China has discovered that communist economics does not work but still wants to maintain the dictatorial system.

Gabriel Francisco *Since 1999, Macau has retained the same system as it used to.*
*It's still full of casinos, right?*
*If China is really "communist", there shouldn't be any gambling, luxury bags and cars in Macau right now because all of those are ILLEGAL in a communist society.*
*In fact, in Mao's China, all of those are punishable by death.*
*But as I've said earlier, it's not the same China as it used to anymore.*
