I mean... I see the title and think: "Hm, I'm not interested so much, but it's Justine, so I'll watch it" and then I watch it and my mind is blown! The same with your perfume video. You are so precise and to the point but at the same time soooo interesting, I love it! Thank you!
This video is a bit "different": thanks for giving it a try and clicking on it! At the end of the video, you'll see why Helmut Newton's work might soon get very relevant again... 💛
I really like the way you comprehend fashion: as intergrating part of other arts, history, politics and share interesting personas stories... I'm astonished about the context behind something what looks as "random" fashion photo! It's a great thing! Kepp it up!! ;)
Hi! I also love this photograph and I do masks for a living since 2 years ago. This picture was a major inspiration for that. I will open my etsy shop and I want to keep you posted to receive for feedback I love you!
Looking at her designs, her genius is so apparent, we are fortunate she survived to create such lasting ideas of beauty simplified. Her jewelry is still being copied in one form or another. At bead shops one can find "floating" bead necklaces (diamonds by the yard), the heart, the shiny finished wood and stone rings, the simple, elegant designs revolutionized jewelry designs. Visionary is absolutely the correct word. Thank you for sharing Justine!
I saw this picture a while back in passing and I admired it for its composition and the elegance of the model. But now, knowing all the history behind it... Wow seems not quite adequate enough. Thank you for sharing this piece of fashion history with us. Looking forward to more.
I hope Ms Peretti will view this video. An homage to a great artist. Her creations are splendid and timeless. And what a life story. Very inspirational. Thank You Justine
The village she lives in is called "Sant Martí Vell"', catalan for "Old Saint Martin" :-) and it is the most beautiful place on Earth. It is located in L' Empordà, Catalonia, a little piece of Paradise in this planet. I know because I used to live there before moving to the US. Elsa is a well known, respected and loved personality, we know about her story and we just adore her. She was the first "non-catalan" personality to be awarded the Catalan National Culture Award. Thank you Justine for your contribution, I also love this picture, Elsa is a Great Damme, and she will always be. ❤️
Helmut Newton is one of my favourite photographers. He really captured the elegance, power and sadness of beautiful bodies in a way not like any other. Thank you for this!
Dearest Justine, I cannot tell you how fantastic this informational video is!!! I love this photograph too. Oh my goodness. Please do more!!! Please!!! Thank you!!!!❤️❤️❤️
Hey Justine, your channel has never just been a fashion blog! It has always been educational, informative and damn elegant. With videos like these, you have elevated yourself to a much higher level. Thank you for identifying with the woman who is kind, bold, intelligent and FABULOUS!
Wow! You're such a good story teller Justine. Definitely feeling inspired. I'll browse through my photography books tonight. Not specifically too much on fashion but definitely a master of photography like Henri-Cartier Bresson. Well done!
I was looking for jewels with natural patterns a couple of months ago and I found this line on the Tiffany website in the name of Elsa Peretti. I thought "oh cool! An Italian! Too bad I have no clue who she is...". Now I know and I want those jewels even more!!! Nature and a strong woman (is this association made by chance? 😉): these are my symbols. Thank you Justine!
I am so so so happy I found your channel a couple months back, your content is the definition of quality and your ability to pull the viewer in is incredible!
Loved this story, so inspiring and close to reality, even though she struggled, she never stopped and now she is reaping the fruits of her labor, love it...
"Individuals of full worth" - YES! Thanks for the history lesson and for using it to frame what we are seeing in the world of fashion and the world at large ❤️
Incredible! I've worn a tiny Elsa P Tiffany cross necklace every day for the past 30 years. Had no idea about her story. I love this necklace and her simple designs. Thanks
Excellent overview of Elsa's life...loved it! I am close to her generation and remember her and those 70's club days very well. Her design legacy is timeless as is she.
Hello Justine, I loved this video a lot! I like how you not only gave very well researched background information to an amazing fotograph but also explained how the story maybe affects today's situation and fashion. Could you maybe do something similar about fashion icons like Diane von Fürstenberg, Dior, Vivien Westwood, Dries van Noten... or maybe iconic pieces like the Kelly Bag or Birkin Bag, or Diane's wrap-dress. :)
Thank you for revisiting this era so thoughtfully and informatively. I was a young woman living in NYC then and Helmut Newton and his work was huge and inspiring. You inspire also. Thank you for that!
Hello, Justine! I'm Russian girl who moved to live in Scotland. I was a little confused because of changing country and language but your videos and your life experience inspired me to move on and now I started doing here what i love even more successfully then back in home, opened my channel and sharing with my Russian friends new reality of my life! And i want to say that all your videos always deeper then just subject in title! Love your channel!
awesome Justine!!! BildungsTV vom Feinsten! Danke, dass du so intereressante Zusammenhänge aufzeigst und auf deine unvergleichlich begeisterte Art erklärst! Bisou!:-)
Justine, this is a brilliant summation of not only Elsa Peretti's life, but of the times in terms of cutting-edge creatives. You take me back there as if you had been there, too. That is quite a gift. Thank you.
I started collecting Elsa Peretti jewelry in the early 80's. The pieces I have are as relevant today, as they were 30 years ago. She is still my favorite designer.
you are right about the times we live in - and it is not only women with their back on the wall, but the way women are look at is one of the indicators that should alert us about the attitude of our time and the direction society will head towards to, if we are not attentive and consequent and 'loud'
What a lovely video. I am delighted to know that Elsa is alive in Barcelona. As a child of the seventies, I adored Studio 54 and Elsa's work for Tiffany's. I own quite a few of her pieces and they are timeless. It's is unfortunate that Mr. Newton is no longer with us. His work pushed the boundaries of polite society which was what the '70s was all about
I really enjoyed this video. I was 13 when this photo was taken. I lived 40 minutes outside of NYC. Although I missed the Studio 54 era, I did get to experience it recently now that it is used as a theater. I had the treat a few years ago to see Cabaret there. It was an incredible and powerful experience
Such an interesting video. Definitely would appreciate more like this. Anything and everything you do is great and look forward to what's on next twice a week. Thank you for always enlightening my week.
I can't believe I've never seen that photograph. It's absolutely fascinating, and the contextual background you provide makes it even more so. You explained it all perfectly. Well done and thanks!
It's amazing how very different having the context in which the photograph was taken changed my opinion of the entire picture. At first, I thought it was just going to be a photograph of a Playboy Bunny from a different decade. Now, I can see how important that moment was for her. Thank you for sharing Justine.
Thank you for telling Elsa's story Justine! Really blown away. The photo has more meaning now that we know the back story. Please do of these videos. Photographs/art/fashion are great.
This was fascinating, Justine! You are correct--context is everything. I had never thought about the cultural context for the shoulder pads and suit coats for women in the 80s. I was a teen then, so the cultural context for the clothing escaped my awareness. The rise of feminism in that milieu gives significance to those fashion statements. I see this now, looking back. This was a very interesting video! I hope you do more of this kind of thing!
Nicely done, Justine. It was an exciting time. Helmut Newton's photographs reminded us of our inner strength and power, and still enjoy looking at two books of his that I have. Elsa Peretti was so cool and beautiful, and I wish Halston was still with us, because I could not afford his clothes back then.
The side profile of you in this video is gorgeous! You are so lovely Justine. Thank you for background on this picture. Ive seen it several times (and loved it) but never knew the complete back story. Another job well done!!
Similar to me, except that I'm from Iran (very conservative country) and I'm trying to go to Italy to get a Phd :). So it was really impressive and inspiring for me. Thank you Justin! I have a big wondering!!! I don't understand society , for example I'm studying computational physics for last 3 years, basically there is no difference between men and women to work in my field(there is no need to have some muscles or... ;) ) , but when it comes to a job everyone think that men are better than women in computer science :( Why??? Basically why???
Love how you folded in the history and context while telling an entertaining story and connecting it to present day culture and fashion. Please do more of this type of video!
Justine, I want to thank you for such an interesting and unexpected video. I have been watching your videos for a while, beginning with my interest in dressing in the french style. This one, however, makes me want to read up on Helmut Newton's work. I had no idea of what you were going to share with the photograph behind you and what a fascinating story of Elsa Peretti. I learned something today. I look forward to more of your videos! Jeanine from U.S.
Hi Justine, thank you so much for the thorough explanations on the stories behind this stylish and iconic picture. I had no previous knowledge on Elsa Peretti or Helmut Newton, but I did enjoy watching the video thanks to your wonderful storytelling and presentation skills. I was wondering the other day whether you would continue with your #FashionTalk# series? I really enjoy and appreciate all your sensible and sophisticated thinking behind the bustling fashion industry. Recently I came across a book, Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster, by Dana Thomas. It is an interesting read indeed. I just wonder whether it would be of any interest for you to make a #FashionTalk# video on luxury brands? 😊❤️ Wish you have a nice weekend!🌹
I am not at all artsy person in fact I am exactly opposite of that but I just love your channel. There is always something new to learn which I would have not read or watch online or search myself otherwise. I am tired of reading and watching same kind of content which comes to me in suggestions. Its breath of fresh air to watch your videos so full of content without loud expressions, dramatic camera work and unnecessary music. I like how you provide background story to everything and I learnt a lot about art, fashion, clothes and style in general. Thanks for making such videos. Very informative.
I' like to thank you for this video. I am huge fan of Helmut Newton for the reasons you mentioned, but I didn't know the whole story behind that particular picture. This video was really inspiring or even moving (!!!). Thanks again so much!
I love how you found the inspiration for this video! It's a rarity that people would find beauty in everywhere around them, I truly respect that Can't believe I haven' seen it already, I have been watching and rewatching your videos for almost a year now
Thank you so much for sharing this story Justine. I'm aware of Elsa's work but was unaware of her journey. I loved the glimpse of the past linked to present day and future thoughts!
Thank you for providing intelligent content, history, background and context. I look forward to your posts every week. Your intelligence and insight is beautiful.
Awesome video Justine. I am so in love with Elsa and her Tiffany line of jewelry. I keep eyeing that silver bone cuff in her line. Maybe one day.... Thank you for such wonderful and educational videos!
I love this video. You are awesome, and looking to the past of significant others can help us, especially women today. I was in my 20's during the 70's, but never made it to Studio 54. Too bad. Thank you, such a unique story you have told.
Very interesting, Justine! Merci! I look forward to your videos bc they're Quality not Quantity and that is refreshing! 🙂 As always, you nailed it! Loved this one❣️
Thank you for the story behind this photo! I became a fan of Helmut Newton in the 90's when I was working with a photographer who was exploring black and white nudes. I fell in love with the strength and beauty of HN's work. It's so interesting that this style is coming back at this particular time in history.
I adore it!!!! Thank you for this,Justine) I knew Elsa Peretti's name, cause I'm lusting over her designs by Tiffany, but never knew her story. Helmut Newton is a legend)
I own a Tiffany diamond necklace, it's the diamond by the yard. I knew it's was by Elsa Peretti but I didn't know her history and story. Thank you so very much darling. I'm also from the fun times of the 1970 era ,and from now on I will remember her each time I wear it.
Triple thumbs up! I have to go buy more books now! I was familiar with all the folks you mentioned, but the context you added made this really inspiring! I really enjoy and benefit from your videos!

+Iva Jarić thanks for trusting me! And happy you didn't regret clicking on this video! 💛
Justine Leconte officiel Justine!
Iva Jarić same happened yo me! Lol. Not dissapointed at all.
Haha same here
Same! Justine, you are so full of interesting knowledge! Enjoyed this video, like I do all of your videos!👍🏻☺️
This video is a bit "different": thanks for giving it a try and clicking on it! At the end of the video, you'll see why Helmut Newton's work might soon get very relevant again... 💛

Hi! I also love this photograph and I do masks for a living since 2 years ago. This picture was a major inspiration for that. I will open my etsy shop and I want to keep you posted to receive for feedback I love you!
Man, Oh Man, you are so good at this. Thank you so much. I knew who Elsa Peretti was, but not the back-story. So very interesting.
I would listen to literally hundreds of these little seminars. Loved it! ❤️❤️❤️
You are a teacher! You have the gift of transmitting knowledge and spark curiosity on topics that otherwise seem a bit dry. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

As you told it, we have visited a little piece of Elsa Peretti's inner strength and beauty. Beautifully captured.

I do so agree that art must be seen in the context of its time to be fully understood.
I've always loved this photo too. So unusual, but very cool!

I loved how you fleshed Elsa's story first before going to the photo. i love Helmut Newton's work but the way you presented this is beautiful.
You should make a video series out of this,Justine.!
loved it, as always. 😄

I have always been lazy about cleaning my shoes myself. You have made it look quick and effortless!! Thank u very much x
I was thinking about Elsa yesterday when I took my EP 'calla lilly' Tiffany ring to be polished. Huge talent, perpetually chic.
I love this so much! It's incredibly inspiring, relevant and thought-provoking. Thank you so much and yes, I'd love to see more of this type of video.
After I listened your explanation about Ms Elsa, my view of this picture became completely different! Thank you so much your informative sharing!
