Rafi and then Raj Khosla, who had initially come to Bombay to become a singer. But Dada insisted on taking Hemant da, in spite of the fact that his Hindi diction was not perfect at that time. But he did sing it eventually as he practiced his pronunciation for over a month. Today what we have is probably the best romantic number ever composed with some unforgettable lyrics by Sahir.
