- ShowMIDI is a multi-platform GUI application to effortlessly visualize MIDI activity. More information at: github.com/gbevin/showmidi
This application fills a void in the available MIDI monitoring solutions.
Instead of wading through logs of MIDI messages to correlate relevant ones and identify what is happening, ShowMIDI visualizes the current activity and hides what you don't care about anymore. It provides you with a real-time glanceable view of all MIDI activity on your computer.
That's just awesome. Thanks for scratching your own itch, and sharing it with the rest of us!
You're welcome!
Awesome! This is a very well thought out solution to a problem we are all having. Thanks so much, and well done!
Really nice concept and execution! 👍
Nice one. Tested and works flawlessly on Ubuntu 22.04.
Awesome!!!
This could grow to be a very useful app.
One idea I had whilst watching was to show a selectable set of CCs values (perhaps at the top of the screeen?) so you can see how your controller is reaching it's intended destination.
Add in some routing, CC re-channelising/mapping and you will be ousting MIDIOx as the most useful MIDI tool!
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions!
Never thought of midi like this and now I will. Thank you!
Yeah it's interesting how much more approachable MIDI becomes when you think of it this way!
Ah the amount of times I would have needed this in the past! (and possibly future). Great idea! Tempting to hook a similar thing in Bidule haha.
Right?! This would be awesome right in Bidule!
@@gbevinActually a VST3 or CLAP "MIDI Effect" would be even better. It would be in my Default Bidule dev graph permanently!
Scratch that. CLAP only. We all know what S did with VST3 events lol
@plgDavid yeah I plan to do that next, wanted to get something out asap first
What immediately springs to mind is to see what sources are providing clock or start/stop info. That will make it easier to figure out why an instrument is suddenly doubling its tempo. 😊
But this will also be useful for figuring out exactly how PAT or MPE devices are sending info.
Looks great. It's exactly the sort of thing I have been looking for. Your apps (like MIDI Tape Recorder) have often filled a need that I had or even one that I didn't know about, and this is another great example. Also, I think MIDI technology often appears mysterious and is displayed in tables or very technical visual output, when in actuality it's very accessible when presented in a friendlier interface, so that could entice a lot more people to dabble with it. Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Great idea wirh separate buckets. Supercool.
Thank you!
This is great! Thank you so much
This is great, thanks!
Glad you like it!
I have been working on something similar for the exact same reasons. Nice UI and simplicity!
This is very cool.
Thank you!
👏👏👏
this is cool
Thanks!
Look very nice. I try it in Fl Studio 21 but i don't see any events in the monitor. I have a synth on mixer Track 1, and loaded the PlugIn as an Insert in the FX section of the mixer. If i let the synth play or if i try to play my keyboard - the plugin shows nothing.
Question: Does someone know how to setup this PlugIn in FL Studio? Do i need a special routing?
I tried to setup the synth in the settings to MIDI OUT Port 1 and the PlugIn to MIDI IN Port 1 - nothing to see. Any hints?
Windows 11 BTW.
Fuuuuuuuuck yes
This is awesome. Could you build a flatpak for Linux?
I'll look into it, I've never built a Flatpak before.
@@gbevin Sorry, I didn't know you're application runs as a standalone binary. I thought it was .deb because you labeled it Ubuntu. My mistake. I just tried it and it's really awesome. Great work.
@@mr.DorianJames cool, thank you! A flat pack still might make sense to ensure all dependencies are installed, though there aren't many and most Ubuntu systems should have them
