Well, Kitsune just means Fox and if you're thinking of the yokai, it's the kyubi (if I remember correctly). But being the Sly Fox does fit Etho tbh.

tanuki are an animal native to japan that look a lot like a racoon so the english common name is often racoon dog. they're not closely related and their frequent presence in japanese media is making tanuki a lot more common in english media in recent years@@TGo-n-Roscoe
No but seriously having joel on hermitcraft now is magical.
I swear bro when 10 was announced the fandom (including me) were debating which cc was gonna get added as a Hermit but tbh we were all worried they were gonna troll us and not add anyone for season 10 lmao
Then they added both Joel and Skizz which was the outcome I was wishing for the MOST but I was trying to lower my expectations super low and I was like "no, it'd never be that catered towards me!" I was worried that if Joel was gonna be one of two the other would be Jimmy which as much as I like Jimmy I did NOT want him to be completely unavoisable. He and Scott need to stay out of at least 1 popular SMP istg
Point being: This was the absolute best scenario possible for me!!... and I didn't haven't kept up with it since the first couple vids smh. I do not blamew myself however, I had gotten Minecraft brainrot ykhii, and I just couldn't emotionally enjoy my tip top scenario at that point.
But still. I am so grateful that something in our timeline went this right for me. Not to mention Magic Mountain's existence itself reminding me of when I first started Minecraft... which is a story I bet you've never heard before and I swear it's funny. If you asked.

I honestly have a feeling that some of the double life duos were pre picked(Scar and Grian, Pearl and Scott) but others were defo randomly assorted together like The Ranchers and Boatboys and have honestly surpassed duos like Grian and Scar
@@adityabanerjee I don’t know about that. Ik grian is extremely clingy with scar, but he legit wanted to team with bigb. Unless another admin of the server deliberately paired them I don’t see it being possible.

I don't know why Joel, Etho, and we, the audience, are... tanukis? But it's adorable. And tiny Etho seeking reassurance Joel like the mail system is especially cute. It astounds me the possibilities of cartoon format--you can suddenly shrink a character to toddler size, and it totally works. And other visual jokes and exaggerations. I've been working my way through the new live-action Avatar:TLA, and one of the things that's missing is, I think, the charm of animated details.
....Anyway, that was a bunny trail. =P Fun video!

Tanukis are a species native to japan with a bit of mythology behind them, and since Joel is making a japanese-themed base, it makes sense
