Good videos man! I lived in a trailer park like .5 miles away from prison for 25 years and i remember Sheriffs would go knock everytime an inmate would escape!
Truth right there mr toilet paper, The average person on the street is a fat and unhealthy slob, just take a look next time your at Walmart Or the grocery store and you most definitely notice 95 percent if the people you encounter are buying junk for food and their bodies look like globs of shit. No self respect and they all have excuses as to why they can’t get to the gym or live an active lifestyle or even at least eat healthy.
Even if still in prison pretty sure none are still at Soledad since they transfer prisoners between prisons every few years. Could be one or two still in prison though. Unlikely but possible. There's guys still in prison from the 70s and 80s, never released. But those are rare.
I was locked up here in the early 2000s and things definitely changed. For one there were no more weights, just bars for pullups, dips, etc. And definitely no one was passing anything to the guards in the tower. Also it looked like that one dude had cash, which inmates aren't allowed to have any more. Outside people just put money on your "books" (an account that the prison gives you). I did time at newer prisons and older ones like this, and when I first got there one thing that tripped me out was that I saw a few cats roaming around the yard. You just don't see that in newer prisons because they're either in very remote areas with harsh conditions (like Ironwood State Prison in Blythe), or it's because fencing and security is so tight that wild/stray animals can't get in. I did see a couple deer outside the fences when I was at the prison in Tehachapi for reception. But in Blythe it was just lizards mostly.

Cat Daddy yeah I personally mix the two. I go for aesthetic and strength. Trying look good and be strong, diet is everything when you trying to get big.

I heard they took the weights out in 1998 because they would smuggle in steroids and the guards looked like little sticks next to them. Some prisoners were getting way too big and strong. It took like 4 or 5 guards just to take one prisoner down. So they took the weights out. I also heard its because if a fight broke out they would use the weights to hit another. But who knows the real reason why

Having a good weight pile in a Prison can be a tool (carrot and a stick) to control inmate behavior. If inmates are not behaving ... take away the weight pile access. Getting rid of stress and doing something positive (training and working out) can help keep a prison calm and keep guys occupied. I think it's a positive thing and more weight piles should return to jails and prisons. Keep inmates working, cleaning up their own "house", offering educational courses AND keep their access to weights and workout equipment. 👍

M Stewart. your probably right. I was there in 92. But I was on the central yard first term. And 1 of the 2 north yards was where all the trash were sent. And that is definitely a north yard. Don’t know about the 80s but I do know the central yard was loaded with people. Packed everyday. Sometimes they would stop the yard release because there were two many people on the yard. And I thought I seen in the video a wood get up off a flat back bench and a brother do his set after on same bench. I know the pile was small on the yard I was on and I worked on the yard crew so I was out everyday . And I can tell you I never seen the woods working out with anyone but another wood. Everyone respected each other but the politics were in place and they were never broken. You would definitely leave with holes in you on a stretcher if you did break the rules. Saying that I think your 100% on target about it being a drop out yard.
That is Central, you can tell by the weight pile. North had a different set up in '82. I was in Shasta and Whitney from '79 through '83 and we were mostly locked down through those years due to race riots. Very little yard time.....

In North Facility, the Lasson/Raineir Hall side, the weight pile was just south of the handball court and the phones, just like on this skit. Now, they built a Dorm/Gym in the middle of the yard, between where the weight pile use to be and the handball court.

Should have never taken the weights away. In order to build a desired body you need discipline and work ethic something a lot of prisoners lack. The weights was a good tool for them to build themselves up. A healthier better feeling and looking person probably would have a better shot at not reoffending.
