- Maryna Viazovska of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) proved that the E8 lattice provides the densest packing of identical spheres in eight dimensions while also solving certain problems in Fourier analysis. More details: www.simonsfoundation.org/2022...

Congratulations to Viazovska and deepest condolences to Yulia Zdanovska's family, friends, and all the lives she touched through her teaching and good spirit ❤
This is a really deep story and a very deserved medal to a very humble and enduring Mathematiians.
Just pitched in something else while listening, amount of emotion evolved cant explain in permutation of letters.
How easy to take away someone's life in something which is far far away and having no correlation with her. She was enthusiastic, passionate, humble, and supportive throughout her life towards society and her life got ended in such a unimaginable fortune. Sometimes it feels like there is what we are living is based on someone else order to stop and vanish from earth.
Salute for Maryna Viazovska 'A Field Medallist' to withstand and facing a disastrous period with such a audacity. Its been a honour to listen about you. History will remember you till human existence. Living legend.
Beautiful comment
That young Ukrainian mathematician was of infinitely greater value than Putin!!
Wow. You dedicated a video about you to your family and your country. That’s love. Congratulations on your achievements.
This is an amazing achievement, I'm in awe. Also, Yulia's story is heartbreaking.
People like you fill my heart with hope for tomorrow.
Good going, Professor.
Hope the scars of war will be over soon and you will be able to return to Kyiv.
congratulations. your work on sphere packing is truly remarkable.
I never thought someone trying to pack spheres in eight dimensions would make me emotional, god bless
Thank you for this beautiful portrait.
Wonderful. I'm so happy for her!
Great video, something very peaceful and reassuring about it.
This is very wholesome. Thank you for the video.
Wonderfully put. I will remember this.
thanks for this series
Maryna is inspiring and incredibly brave.
My first semester algebra professor guided us through the E8 construction in a lecture. After working with some lower dimensional lattices and sphere packings it was quite rewarding. He told us about Viazovska’s proof, and that we could understand it if we read closely. It is part of the reason that I discovered an affinity for mathematics and decided to go to grad school.
For this I have to thank Dr. Viazovska. It is incredible to see her receive the Fields medal not just for her contributions to mathematics but also for the accessibility of that work to young mathematicians.
She developed a rather formidable mathematical arsenal to solve this problem. I'm a PhD mathematician and would require extensive study to fully comprehend her methods...
What a beautiful episode and amazing talent
Thank you, Maryna! 💛💙
This inspires me to begin calculus , she is probably a very good teacher
Thank you, Maryna!

Thanks for such an important message!
Thanks for great works♥︎
Much respect!
So impressive. I hope many other people see this.
Simply beautiful
Congratulations for this incredible achievement.
Congratulations and infinite Respect to you Mam !
Thansk super optimization and heroic .
Read some of work Maryna Viazovska has done. Pretty impressive and she is well deserved for this prize.
Congratulations to an inspirational and awesome human being ❤
Kudos and congratulations 🙏🏽
Beautiful formula.
Congratulations!!!
brilliant, emotional, great video well done:)
Awesome! 😍
An admirable scientist and human being
Maryna is amazing !
Thank You. May Yulia rest in peace.
подивився, засльозився, добре, що з вами все ок. Я теж з Києва, мешкаю в Базелі, син захоплюється математикою, одним словом a lot of common points :)
Prime representative of the good side of humanity.
I am pleased that this pleasant , clever and extremely wise woman deservedly was awarded mathematics highest honor!! My thoughts are with the people of the Ukraine.
Love from india...congratulation ma'am...
Did y'all accidentally upload here when you meant to upload to Quanta Magazine?
Respect 💐🤘🙏
Shine on. Stay strong. Love, it's what matters.
And don't forget mathematics😅!
Incredibly heroic.
What does Number Theory have to do with E8 lattice ?
Very Inspiring story. Hope war ends soon and young talent is not wasted in stupid wars.
Respect you from India...❤️...
Wow, she's amazing!
Your Video is good.
Bravo
Congratulations
The future is bright for Ukrainians very talented individuals who use innovations to solve problems. I hope she can publish a book that makes mathematics easier to understand and not off putting. Using music also helps.
❤️❤️❤️
Legend
❤️❤️
I listened to one of her talks a few years back (didn't understand a good chunk of it of course) and revisit her website from time to time. I remember staring at one of her pictures and thought "when is the next female Fields medalist". And here we are in 2022! Yes!
Interesting. I don't have thoughts like that.
❤️
👏👏👏
Congratulation to the brightest of human kind!
Sweet
sorry Maryna Viazovska, and thank you so much for your contribution!
💛💙
🙏💝🙏
Молодец!
🥰
Nice what a genius!
First was *Mariyam*, second is *Maryna*.
It's always related to Mary.
:D
I wish you had dubbed the audio before uploading
Watching things like this makes me have hope in humans
she and people like her should be our role models, not the Hollywood/Bollywood celebrities and greedy businessmen...
Is that the girl from the meme
It will be used in next 100 years ?😮
I will come back to watch the math part again 2:00
Nowdays how students are being enthuthiastic and curious about study and learning all time?.......nowdays more than 90% students are getting boared of studying ......how we can reignite the trrust of knowlegde, wisdom and learning?
Simons? Jim Simons?
A founder of Renaissance Investment Corp?
yes, the winner of Oswald Veblen Prize, an ex-chariman of math dept at Stony Brook

This award could not be given to someone more deserving. I hope this pointless war will be stopped soon!
Tell that to the KGB fanatic, Putin.
The best woman in the world is MERYEM MIRZAQANI FIELD'S 2014
Second woman to have won, congrat.Would she have won if she were a Russian given that Russian students were banned from this year International Math Olympiad.
Russians are not banned from the math Olympiad. They just cannot represent Russia, they can participate independently.
The Olympiad had little to do with receiving the highest honor in mathematics. Hence, whether or not she was Russiam is irrelevant.
I wanna be like her
Hi
Damn, of course, she is cool no words. But I hoped that this was not just a review on the topic "there is such a person", but at least a mathematical analysis of her works. Eh.. Thanks
First comment yay!
As a Russian, I am so sorry for what my government is doing. I'm crying for Yulia and for you and for every Ukrainian murdered and living under a constant threat
virtual humans
First.
This is going to get very less attention
They are busy on something else which doesn't matter.
Gloria to Ukrain!!!
Пишаюсь своєю співвітчизницею.
What can you do with this information? Seems pretty useless
ого, перша Українка, (якщо не рахувати Дрінфельда, який все ж отримав у 1990), що отримала медаль Філдса.
неочікувано
We are all affected by the destruction wrought on Ukraine by the evil might of Putin Russia. We grief with Ukrainian people and pray for them to defeat the barbaric invader!
A sad reality.
I don't understand math, but I hope the FIELDS medal was given on MERIT and not POLITICAL CORRECTNESS (cough...cough... war in Ukraine...cough...cough).
If you did understand math, you would understand how important work in Fourier Analysis is
She only got this award because Ukraine got invaded. If nothing happens to Ukraine, the award would go to an even more outstanding mathematician
Toootally a coincidence that the first Ukrainian to get a Fields Medal gets it after Ukraine becomes politically the most important country in the world
Ya think?
Vladimir Drinfeld won it before her.
It's also not that surprising even without the war. She's been receiving an award every year now since 2016, including the Breakthrough prize and the Fermat prize.
