This conversation goes way behind every geek drum q&a with a tech. It's just like the energy between the band and the fans: mutual respect and admiration. Keep up being so curious, dude! Good things will keep coming your way. 🙏
I'm 41 now, and I have owned a studio, I have made guitars, I have written my own songs, played festivals, lost an amazing 63 year old drummer that my soul will never be the same since losing, and I remember learning how to play "so much to say" on acoustic (properly!) while singing, and I cannot put into words how much I love what these amazing souls have done for me!. Love is the only way I can describe it. THANK YOU!. I remember watching from binoculars at the Gorge MANY years ago, and watching Carter behind the fence at the tour busses, and helping some roadie and showing him how to load things while smiling and being kind the whole time, and to this day it has stuck with me!. I got to see Leroi before he elevated beyond us, and I felt all of their energy EVERY time I saw them play!. I wanted to do the same with my music, and sadly life had other plans, and now the song Shotgun speaks to me. This band AND THE CREW that is their family has affected my life in a way I am having trouble putting into words, while trying not to sound like some kinda loonie toon, stalker crazed maniac lol. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I hope/wish that everyone involved in "DMB" could see this, and know that I am grateful beyond words, and I wish you all the best!! THANK YOU ALL SOOO MUCH!!. I wish I could have jammed with you guys. Keep well and stay safe in this crazy world and keep singing from the windows to each other!.
I used to stagehand in Virginia Beach and always would track Henry down to see what I could do to help him with setting up the kit. At the beginning he always shooed me away, then finally he warmed up to me ever so slightly (haha) and he would let me polish some of the cymbals. I was a pig in shit in those brief moments. And in hearing and reading about how engaging and welcoming Carter was with his fans - I remember mustering up the slightest bit of balls to introduce myself to him during a lunch break and unfortunately he wasn't very receptive to it. It happens, and there could've been a number of reasons why he just wasn't feeling it, but I was so bummed afterwards - and my love for the band started to dwindle after that. Don't get me wrong. No ill will or resentment - I like to think I just caught him at a bad time, but I owe a lot to Carter. I was a lot like you are now but back in 1996-2002 - same passion, but not nearly as well versed as you are. I ate, breathed, drank, bled, and shit DMB, and Carter was the penultimate drummer - literally the ONLY drummer I wanted to listen to. Since then, I still see shows and like their music but the passion with which I experienced the band and Carter has all but fizzled out. But I'm definitely grateful to Carter, the band, to them all, and to Henry for letting me polish those cymbals 👍.
@@TheZooNinjaS Well, he says in this video that he talked with Carter. So we know it happened. The question is whether he recorded it as an interview or just talked with him in person.
Ayy, missed ya dude! Man, techs don't get enough credit, so it was really cool to see Henry's perspective, especially hearing how resourceful they had to be starting out.
Dude I’m blown away. You asked the question I’ve been dying to know the answer to. I remember the day I heard that little snare drum snafu and I’ve had my theories. I figured no other fan would’ve heard that but as a drummer and sound engineer I heard that right away and I can’t believe you asked that friggin question! Thank you I feel whole and complete
Dude, you keep inching closer and closer to that interview with the man, the myth, the legend. When are you going to sit an interview Carter?!?!?! Come on, we're all waiting for it and wanting it. Make is happen Harry!
So cool to hear the perspective of the tech behind the curtain. He's running around patching holes while the whole time the audience has no idea! Also catching that throw off in the live recording must have taken a killer ear Harry. I would have just assumed edge hits on the snare or a partially broken stick!
I 2004 I bought "Under the Table and Drumming", the Carter Beauford instructional DVD, at a drum convention as a penny pinching college student. Got home, opened it up all super exited, pulled the DVD out and the disc cracked from the plastic in the center holding it in place. Never even got to watched it once. Couldn't afford to re-buy it. I can still feel the disappointment when I think about it. Anyway, sob story aside...great video dude! Loved it!
What an outstanding video. Awesome insights from our man Harry and Carter's right arm. Innovation, constant improvement, humble dudes in parlance. Moving mountains. Bless.
As soon as this video started playing I said “dude” And we both said it at the same time. No joke. I love this channel. Always cheers me up. This is some top quality content. Even the videos of just you talking. Never stop making them. Even if it’s just you talking. You good sir, know how to make good content.
0:36 This means you actually spoke with Carter, right Harry? Which means you've made an interview just like this with the man himself, coming straight to this channel... RIGHT?
I was late to the game with Dave Matthews, but my wife is a superfan. I've seen the band 3 times with her and each time the sound and performance were much MUCH better than the last (and the first one definitely didn't suck). He isn't kidding when he says they are constantly looking for ways to take it to the next level. I've got as much respect for this whole crew as I do for any band out there.
Harry - dude. As a fellow child of Carter's playing, this was an incredible look into this man's world and a history of DMB's live show development. THANK YOU for this - absolutely amazing. Much love, dude.
Harry, you amaze me every time I see you. Not only are you a phenominal drummer in your own right, you are also a really great interviewer! Henry seems like a real gem of a guy and really humble about what he does (and agreed these guys get shamefully little credit for what they do all day every day). It's easy to see why they keep him on board. Thanks for this, and like the others say, keep going all the way to Carter himself. I have to believe he would love to be interviewed by THE DUDE! Much love Harry :)
HARRY I NEED MORE COWBELL MY DUDE!! When are you coming back????? I’ve waited 8 months for another dudetastic drumming video! (Take your time by the way no rush my dude just love your videos)
Dude!!! You’re back - thank the cowbell gods!! And you bring us hands-down THE BEST drum tech video ever. This eclipses Jeff Ocultree’s “Trust Your Ears”. Your dudeness delivers every time - without fail - and we thank you from the bottom head of our 18” floor toms! Donk!
This is an awesome interview. Thank you so much. My favorite part, Dave on the spectrum. No seriously, ALL of it was great. What a humble man. Nashville show is coming up in few days, my town. If not sold out yet, hopefully I'll be able to get tickets. I've loved DMB since the early 90's when first heard them & given a cassette tape by the Vanderbilt University student radio station DJ. I saw DJ in the hall when I was leaving the darkroom where I'd been developing film, asked what band he was playing. Often played local bands. He went to check the name, handed me a cassette tape, said it was an extra one so gave it to me!! Wish I could put my hands on it now!!
So darn grateful for you too dude! Loved hearing Carter’s tech, must have been really exciting for you! All the best with future musical pursuits and whatnot!
Duuuuuude!!! My wife is still confused why I was so giddy and giggly during this whole video. Your preparation for this interview made is so good and so glad you're back. As a drummer with arthritis in my hands and thumbs, I would genuinely love that glove.
Got the notification and saw Harry Miree and though hell yes! Then I saw it was about Carter and got even more excited. This honestly made my day so much better. I wasn't looking forward to going into Music college today but after watching this I feel so motivated!!! Thank you so much Harry!
Carter is the reason I continued my drumming hobby! DMB has sucked me in to a lovely dark hole of goodness, jams, and love. keep up the amazing content dude!
NirvanaBrian1 "dudely tear" LMFAO I'm so stealing that. Best to you sir. *gingerly touches the brim of his tophat and saunters into the night mist* #iblackedoutwhatthefuckdidijustsay
Dude just found your videos recently, have to say it's pretty inspiring your outtake on drumming and playing all together. Love your videos and I think your an awesome dude.🤙
Was not expecting that haha, that's awesome man. Easy to forget that a lotta techs aren't faceless extra hands who tune your guitar for you, it's a pretty personal thing when it comes down to it. Glad to hear from ya man, see you in another three months.
It's so awesome to see you back with some new vids! I'm not a Carter fan just yet, but I've been watching your vids for a while now and love your enthusiasm! I will continue checking them out as I go but in the meantime, keep being passionate about your vids my dude!
So good to hear about Carter's behind the scenes. You don't hear so much about him on forums and stuff when we're all talking about the best drummer this and the greatest drummer that. I've always thought there are only two drummers; Carter and Simon Phillips. Long live DMB.
Dude! Fantastic chat with Henry. I don't know why it never occurred to me that there must be some legendary dudes behind the scenes, but you've just shined a bright light on one of them. Great to hear his thoughts, dreams, and experiences. Thanks, dude.
Due to my ignorance I’d never heard of Carter (don’t shoot me down) but since watching your channel I’ve found him and you to be a massive inspiration to my drumming. Lovely to see the guy that really runs the show, fantastic guy. Thanks for your channel and keep up the fantastic work. 👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘
I've been a Dave fan since I was 12 yrs old , so 25 yrs or so. Anyway Carter is the best drummer I've ever heard & had the pleasure of seeing live about 15 times so far. So if you could toss me a stick or a glove I'd be eternally grateful..
I remember my first battle of the bands back in high school. my older brother set up my kit (I was in a thrash band) first song was heavy more than fast so just using one foot on the bass, as soon as the 2nd song started I went straight into double bass and about a minute in, the bass flew forward and I dropped off throne and disappeared behind the kit trying to get everything back in place. It was nerve wracking but funny to look back on lol I also had to use the sandbag trick for my cymbal stands. Been 12 years since that first time playing to a crowd, learned a lot since then
DUDE! this was perhaps one of the best interviews with a drumtech Ive ever watched! so insightful! and so cool to see pro drummers like you still having your fanboy moments! hahah
There was a watchtower in a building storm in Indy in 06, the more the song grew the harder it rained, the lightening and thunder was in key with the drums and lights. Something else was definitely going on that night
My wife made fun of me cause we were watching the bachelor this season, and I said, “That’s Harry Miree”. She told me I was fanboying. Lol. This was an awesome inside look at the man, the myth, the legend.
NO LIKES!!! And 1.2k Likes! YIKES. I swear Harry yours is the most positive and funny and jovial place on YT. The comments are always lovey and I dig your persona dude.
Amazing interview...the day I heard Carter for the first time I was blown away...then to find out we both play open(except he is a lefty) was a beautiful day. Thank you for this information and awesome video.
Glad you’re back! This video was super awesome too! Hearing and seeing all of the behnd the scenes stuff is truly inspirational dude. Keep up the great work!
I don’t even listen to that band but I was super engaged in the video because you can tell they’re both extremely passionate about what they do and what they’re talking about. Awesome stuff, Harry. Great to have you back
*YES HES BACK I LOVE THIS MAN*
I'm sorry.
dude*
“Dave probably being on the spectrum somewhere...” this killed me 😂
yep but so true
Yes!! This was awesome. And that's why we ALL love Dave, spectrum or not.
“Sonic” “How did you know?” “Because I knew you were a good guy”
Dude. As a musician and gamer I applaud you

I literally yelled *HARRY MIREE HARRY MIREE HARRY MIREE* when I got the notification and everyone around me thinks I'm crazy rn it's great
Dude! Right on! So, you've interviewed Lessard and now the drum tech. .... What about the man himself?! When's the Carter interview coming?!?!?!
Right?
I feel like Harry is the type of person that doesn't want to meet Carter to keep the magic alive. But maybe they've met.
@@TheZooNinjaS Well, he says in this video that he talked with Carter. So we know it happened. The question is whether he recorded it as an interview or just talked with him in person.
Great job on this interview!
Ayy, missed ya dude! Man, techs don't get enough credit, so it was really cool to see Henry's perspective, especially hearing how resourceful they had to be starting out.
You tried to engage him more than most could or would. Good job pulling some info out of him.

says a LOT that the original DMB tech/support team is still intact and rocking with the band nearly 3 decades later.
Fantastic job, dude! Glad to see you back!

Love behind the scenes vids. Very informative, thanks Harry

Wait he’s in the Bachelor? Lol
egutierrez they had a band on the show and he was playing drums for them.
Chris Gomez Aw, I wanted to see Harry breaking hearts left and right...
egutierrez the dude world would not be able handle Harry as the bachelor. Lol.
Yass dudes he is back
This was a great interview. Keep up the good work!
