Abraham Laboriel's 8 string bass is crazy, and he plays it with such dexterity. The man has strong fingers! Funky stuff.
Justo Almario still plays at our church a couple of times a year. What a blessing!
A las personas que votaron con el pulgar abajo definitivamente no saben de musica.Grande Koinonia
Jajaja, o tal ves no les cargaba el video por tener demasiada calidad.
Saw them this same year I believe, 1984 (maybe 1983), at Huntington Beach, CA famous club called the "Golden Bear." Artists such as Dick Dale, Janis Joplin, Arlo Guthrie, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hoyt Axton, Jackson Browne, Jimi Hendrix, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Dave Mason, Tower of Power, The Chambers Brothers, Jose Feliciano, and Jerry Garcia played there. Club there 1923 to 1986. Abraham up to his old passionate jamming antics during that jam. It was standing ovation awesome. That club was eventually tore down due to development. It was right there on the corner of PCH and the famous Huntington Beach Pier. Old hang. But urban sprawl took over. Big shopping place now. Hotels, etc. They fought the teardown but big money won out as usual. Good memories. Saw Koinonia not too far off from that 1984 event ,at another venue long gone as well. But this place was literally a housing/business building, long dining room turned into a venue. Literally like they were jamming in your living room. Maybe 25 of us there to enjoy. And did they jam. Haha Like we were all just hanging out at our house. Crazy situation, but well worth it. These guys are just plain good. Amen.
27:44 does anyone notice how Alex fills in the drum roll, then lays down the sticks and switches to the Conga without missing a beat? #legend
Watching some contemporary bassplayer on yt led me down a rabbithole, to Victor Wooten and then Abraham Laboriel and Koinonia. How many home papers I have made with Koinonia on the cassete player...
Especially the last encore with Dee Dee and McFerrin made this late evening perfect.
Alex Acuña led me further back to Weather Report.. What a perfect journey of mind.
Cheers you all.
In my opinion Koinonia is the greatest jazz band with that unique style of melody which can never be reproduced by other musicians. Thank you Koinonia for being such a big part of my life's journey. My kids grew up with Lyn, Valentine, Senor Funky Bumpkins. Just pure music pleasure, skill and talent from the giver of Life. Shalom
In my opinion, Abraham Laboriel is one of the most delicious bassplayers and musicians of the last century ...! Love and peace out there on earth ...!
Thanks to Koinonia - what a wonderful and marvelous band ...!
Delicious is a very appropriate description. I also often equate really good things with really good food.
He is a total DELIGHT to hear and watch.
I have been a set drummer since 1962 and I never get tired of his bass playing.
Timeless, eternal bliss, simply spiritually uplifting, joy unspeakable! The endless fountain of surrender to the spirit within us all! Thank You for sharing your harmony of a brotherhood that is "One from the Heart!"
Thanks for posting this! An entire generation of Christian Jazz Musicians have been blessed and influenced by the music of Koinonia. Justo Almario is one of the reasons I started playing, and is still a major influence in my music and career. Praise God for Koinonia!
It's really impresive how good the music is. All the artists in the band are certenly very blessed talented musicians!!! Very Special!!!
Great Christian band, and I never knew that when I was dancing to their music at my favourite night club before I met the Lord

These guys are so friken bad ass I grew up on their music. Abe Alex Hadley Bill Harlan Justo are world class musicians. One of the most underrated bands but not to those of who listen to and love them. Timeless music
Fabulous!! So glad to finally see the entire concert... and the quality is excellent, considering this is "only" 480. I was fortunate to see Koinonia onstage back in 1990 and even got to interview Abe Laboriel in 1994 for a local radio when he released his second solo album. Thanks a LOT for sharing!
Loving this! Abraham and the whole crew, amazing! Ty for posting this
Thank You for posting this…”Celebration” was a game changer for me!
DESDE LOS 90'S ESCUCHO A ESTOS GENIOS MUSICALES... LEER LA BIBLIA, ESTUDIAR, AL COMPÁS DE ESTA MÚSICA, ES UN DELEITE CELESTIAL. BUENA POR ELLOS Y POR QUIEN SUBIO ESTE VIDEO.
Good Job brother ! It's great to find such treasures on the Web ! God bless !
Such good memories of Koinonia. I've been influenced by them especially Hadley Hockensmith as a guitarist. Also love his solo album-Heartsongs. I'm currently in a Christian Jazz band called Gospel Jazz Hawai'i. We formed in around 2005 because of attending a "live" concert with some of them (Koinonia) here Hawai'i. God bless Koinonia.
Man I miss this group!
Harlan Rogers sure can play that Fender Rhodes.
Thank you for that video!
Have always loved these guys! Great groove! Great spirit (through the Spirit)!
Thanx for sharing this concert, it was a pleasure to listen to
May the Lord God bless all Europe and the world. What Abraam Laboriel says from 47:45 on how many of us would dare to say in front of the audience in today's relativist world? May the Holy Spirit fill our hearts again with that courage and set us on his holy fire again!
This is their signature song....Abraham in a church setting will actually ask the congregation to join in celebrating Christ and watch him start dancing in the spirit at the end...saw them live in 1985 at Church On The Way, Ventura, CA, awesome!
I'm very happy to listen to this band!
This is what music is supposed to do. Lift our spirit and make us feel good.
Koinonia still sounds! great!
Lembro me que ouvi Koinonia pela primeira vez em 1988 muito bom.

The truth is that Christian music in general, before the advent of internet, is woefully unfamiliar to most Christians today. These guys trace back to some of the greats of Contemporary Christian music. We've managed to bring hymns into the 21st century, but there's a huge gap between 1960 & 1990 that is relatively unknown to most people.
Hadley Hockensmith must be the most underrated and overlooked player in the history of guitar. This is the definitive tone!
Ohhh yes!!!!
Hadley Hockensmith "Heartsongs" is my all time favorite CD.
Hadley plays some fantastic rhythm guitars and builds up some highly technical, varied and musical solos.
The One and Only God who gave him the talent and wisdom on how to play puts him in a very high place
