It makes me sad to think that Playmates' best work was back in the early '90s. But realistically, between NECA and Super7's lines, I don't think I need any new stuff from Playmates. I would actually just like re-issues of the original figures I missed out on--Scratch, Doctor El, Shogun Shoate, maybe more of the wacky turtle variants. Assuming the paint apps and card art were in tact, I'd much rather see that than anything new from them.
I guess we can look at it as there keeping the vintage line value in tact. So many retro collectors are complaining about the reissues. But if playmates does this then no need to worry about it. Idk what to come of it.
Will be buying and opening. For someone that had a headless Bebop and Krang with dirt forever caked in the joints, my standards for paint apps are low 😄
Good in-depth review. I already have the first PX set and had this one on pre-order with BBTS. But the few missing paint apps are hardly enough for me to cancel my order. I don't have any of these figures (none of the vintage) and these still look great on card and brand new even with the lack of the vintage paint apps. I mean, six brand new MOC recreations of the vintage figures and it averages to $16.66 a figure. Good luck finding any new vintage carded figures for that price in any condition....or loose complete and good condition figures for that matter. I was 13 when these came out and was kind of exiting toys at that time. One side of me wanted to get some at the time, but the "growing up" side said to myself that I don't need toys anymore. Now the 46 year old kid in me says "hell yeah I need these". It's a great deal in my book.
I love the honesty you provide with these. I couldn't agree more with you on all of it. The original paint apps are a must for me on rereleases. Why even remake them if they are going to slack on it. Great review as always and enjoy that coffee. I will.
I didn't think it was possible, but Playmates skimped on the paint apps even more. :) Great to see Slash in this set, though! Did anyone notice that BBTS put Super7's TMNT ReAction wave 5 up for pre-order, and Slash is in it? No photos yet, but it has me excited! I hope that means he'll finally show up in the Ultimates line, too!
Same. I canceled my PO a little while back then had FOMO for a bit when people started posting about getting them. Then I saw this... I’m so glad I cancelled.
Kraang looks so great! I still have a few I picked up; both Kraangs (chair & smaller Android Body versions), Triceraton, Fugitoid, Space Usagi, Shogun Shoate & a Mouser. The only one i was never able to get was the Shogun Triceraton, & unfortunately it's waaaay too expensive. I'm hoping for a re-issue (like the ones in the video),maybe I can snag one.
I've been debating on picking this up, since I never watched the 80s Ninja Turtles as a kid. Plus, considering it's Playmates who did these, I wasn't too keen on the quality of these figures.
@@chestyvulva Well, I do have this 40 cm Raphael statue coming in, which feels more worth while IMO, but I'll have to wait for it to arrive before deciding. Since I have other pre-orders coming in during the next few months.
Does anyone think that playmates might release a retro rotocast of the other figures from back in the day in sets like this? for example casey jones, general krag, rat king, mutagen man, manta ray, wingnut and screwloose, the mechanical turtle, the duck with wings, triceraton, mouzers, mondo gecko, etc etc i would really like that but can't find any info on it going into 2022
I preordered these like 6 months ago from Gamestop and they came this weekend and yeah I'm a bit disappointed. I had planned on opening them and displaying them. I probably still will but the paint is a huge upset on a few of them.
I saw some of these at Target the last few weeks and I’ve passed on them every single time. I actually need some of these both loose and MOC, but the quality just isn’t there. I’d rather hunt down the originals or even the KBToys reissues from long ago. Do better, Playmates.
I just accept them for what they are, cheap 2021 variants. Good for doing painting too. I just hope they release a Foot Soldier army builder packs in retro purple, black movie/comic, and Konami colors by 2024. Paying more then $15 a figure is stupid.
That's disappointing. I have this pre-ordered with Entertainment Earth but I think I may cancel after this. I never owned some of these figures as a kid and I was looking at these to fill that gap. I knew they wouldn't be perfect representations but this much missing paint is uncool. I have the other box set and I've never opened them. I was waiting until I got this set to open them all up at once.
Extremely disappointed in the lack of paint and detail on these figures, wtf it makes it so obvious they really don’t care to be true and only after collector’s money instead of true fans
open it, play with it, break it and lose pieces.......it's a toy . But is this worth the $100 price tag to do that or even to collect it for nostalgia?.......no
You have to remember some of the differences in paint and detail are going to be on purpose so nobody can scam vintage collectors. Don't come down on them for that. It's important.
Plastics cost more nowadays which is why manufacturers use a slightly lighter version than the originals were made from. This is obviously to keep the cost down. Skipping paint applications though, even though it saves the company money, overall looks lazy and sloppy. I still cant get over the Movie turtles Splinter figure. He is just a badly painted version of the original Splinter, whereas the original Movie splinter was flocked. Ive said this on numerous other vids, just take the licence off Playmates and leave it to the professionals like NECA and Super7, or give it to another company. They cant be any worse than what Playmates is shipping out.
Man, I’m glad I didn’t buy this haha. It’s a bummer they didn’t paint so much of these guys. Back in the day I think there was at least a balance between the painted and unpainted parts. Bebop is ridiculous. They’ve painted them on past rereleases so what was the excuse this time? Wasn’t this set like $90? Slash looks good.
This is an example of when the original manufacturer cant even make a decent knockoff of their own toys. Just let some random dudes in China do it and they will do an even better job. Haha
Playmates is trash I’ve said it many times they are the laziest toy company ever! Sucks their best work was literally in the late 80s early 90s. They should completely sell off the rights to this beloved franchise.
These are licenced knockoffs essentially. My slash was oily to the touch when I took him out of package. What the fuck is that all about? Who knows if these things are toxic Chinese toys...
That's weird you say that, because my Super7 Untimates Slash was very oily as well. Two totally separate manufacturers, but same issue. Maybe it has to do with an additive to that certain color of paint? Weird.

those gummy weapons are better for the kids. one thing i hate when i was a kid is the playmates tmnt accessories are too brittle
Amen to that! I remember snapping countless weapons in half as a kid.

I know this is 2 years old but I'm surprised they would leave Shredder out.
Shredder came in the first wave 6 pack with the 4 Brothers and Splinter.
Thanks for honest review. I was initially on the fence about these but you convinced me to cancel by BBTS preorder.
Same. I canceled my PO a little while back then had FOMO for a bit when people started posting about getting them. Then I saw this... I’m so glad I cancelled.
I just got Slash but didint know that was a redition of him it arriving today hope its a 90s.
Great review! Only picked up this set for the Krang and Slash(which I've never had) really, so glad they're the standouts
How is it that we had better paint apps in the 80's? Several toy lines always skimp on the paint. #1 pet peeve
We were lucky with great paint and details. Also, low prices then $3.88 at Walmart.
Cool review tmnt had some of the best figures.great to see figures being made after all these years.
man they really didn't give a fuck on the paint should have just sold the prototypes as a DIY kit
Kraang looks so great!

Bought it. Opened it. Loved it
Wait it’s cool to open them? I preorder a set of tmnt figures and I hope that i can open them.
Would you paint the missing detail on your Bebop rereleased?
No I have the old one
That's crazy I'm waiting for mine still 107$ spent and they cant even paint it
Why would they make this pack without Shredder? 🤔
Shredder is in the other set

little disappointing, but might still get them for the nostalgia, loved these figures as a kid. I've wasted my money on worse haha
Please unboxing. Review diffrent tmnt reissue 2021 and 1988
So would you be able to paint over the existing paint or should I just give this set a pass?
If you know what you’re doing, you can always paint over paint. I’d save time and get the originals
Should of known and looked closer at the promo shots. Kinda false advertising since Bebop is shown with red shoes.
I wish they would release other figures besides the same few over and over.
It wont happen. I doubt they even have the molds for later waves.
@@JONNYSORENSEN_AU I read on the Technodrome forums Playmates LOST the 2007 TMNT Movie molds! How can they lose recent molds?

But to be honest , the 2013 classic collections reissues are already like this missing paints. So I am not surprised.
As far as I know, this is the only review of this pack online lol
There’s a few
Totally awesome toys
What's the price.thanks for sharing
not sure if this helps but I have seen them for $119.99 CAD here in Canada, that it would be around $99.99 USD.

Slash is still the best!
TY I cancelled my orders. I wanted original artwork, all they did was put a name on the bubble. fuck that. Plus the paint apps are bad
Atleast you can tell original from reissue
Thanks for the review. Wish I would have kept my originals I got back in the 90s. This set is not so good.
Should've included Master Shredder over Baxter Stockman. In the show it was always the rest of the team mostly with Shredder.
Shredder
Is with the turtles and splinter
@@ToyShiz gotcha! 👍
I went to Walmart and did not find a single ninja turtle or villain. What the hell?
bro me to also from my local Florida😒
Ive never seen a vintage Bebop like the one you have. There's so much grey paint and barely any pink on it.
Of the first batch made way back when, also has a squishy head.
@@ToyShiz I had no idea that was even an option on those. That's wild!
In a few years, playmates will just be cutting paint application all together and release monochromatic figures to reduce cost while hiking prices.

Can you do a review on the good guy set?
