1. Little and often (spaced repetition) 2. Question banks are your best friend 3. Stop taking notes and use the K.I.S.S method (Question papers, question banks, flashcards) 4. Keep it simple 5. Weak area list (Note down all the questions you repeatedly get wrong ect) 6. Study with friends 7. Don’t go into too much detail too early on (Go with the process) 7. Stupidly simple, stupidly efficient. With these tips, success is a matter of time and constant effort. Application is the alchemy that transforms knowledge into gold.
I've watched quite a number of study advice vids at this point, and I appreciate yours the most. I wish more people could talk as straightforwardly as you do.
He fails to mention the last of the S's. It's actually, studies, sports, social, and sleep. You can have all three of the first S's, you just have to sacrifice sleep.
Sacrificing sleep is a nono…. If we are getting little sleep after studying , chances are we won’t store the studied information properly. Our brains need rest to properly store learned info
I think the most important thing about learning how to study best, is like you said, "think for yourself". I personally do things to study that others find counterintuitive and don't like, but work really well for me.
Thanks man, that was totally helpful. I would also like to add meditation every morning / writing reflective thoughts. Since my undergrad I would regularly do it everyday. I am also pursuing my medschool applications rn, hopefully I could start this year.🎉
I’m in the top 10% of my med school class. What I’ve found is hard work only gets one so far, I’m simply just not smart enough to move up any higher. There are levels to this. The advice is sold though 👍
Glad you are going to boost our nhs. My uncle burnt out in nhs and moved over to NewYork and retrained for orthopedic surgeon. Earning over $600k now. Impossible in UK
I honestly just want to do better in studies and the rest I want to rest and having time to enjoy my hobbies~ Thanks for the video, you made it sound like it's achievable❤good luckkk!!!
This should be legit. I knew it's always solving problem sets that that works out for me the most. When it comes to memorization, flashcards are my best friend. What I did wrong this semester is I was too lazy that I ended up studying 2-3 hours before exams. But I can guarantee every one that question banks and flashcards are the most helpful for studies.
I really liked the K.I.S.S concept because I practice the same concept, and it is the first time I have seen this pop up in a UA-cam video! Great stuff buddy!
Great video! I am a pre-pa student, but this was still extremely relevant. You seem to have a very balanced approach that we could all learn a thing or two from.
Can you make a video going into more details on how you process the information? E.g. with a list of recorded lectures and readings of articles & textbook, which one do you go through first, and how do you go through? Do you first gloss over and pick up the main words, and then read into each section? What do you do to make the information stick?
Try and categorise things first into headings/subheadings (“scoping the subject”) by skim reading - then I’ll read it in some more detail and turn into flashcards. Flashcards and question banks is what makes the information stick - reading information is for understanding initially.
Anyone sets a time limit of 2 hours for a certain subject but then spends 6 hours studying it and sometimes not finish🥲 ...If any of you has a solution for it pray tell me♥️
cant really do anything other than school when u have almost half a day school schedule, cant even sleep that much cuz have to wakeup early since school is kinda far + traffic
Super awesome video. Reinforced a lot of best practices I've experienced and also helped me gain some useful perspective as I start the next phase of my studies
studying one hour a day in med school, I can't wrap my head around that concept. With the course loads of second year and third. Some of us are spending 6 to 8 hours in the library almost on a daily basis, just to stay ahead of the lecturer.
I like the rants tho, like it just feels like a rich conversation rather than a factual lecture from a professor about a random study technique ill never use.
Opinion, not all study subjects have question banks. It is probably easier for medical content since there's so many student who need to learn how to properly study. For engineering, there's less question banks for certifications. Also, for free resources like Quizlet, there is no way to know if you can trust the content.
Thanks, great video! Could you please make some videos of how you answer different types of questions, different subjects that would be awesome....do you use highlighting/striking out feature, how do you start, thinking process, etc? Many thanks again!
Hi ! Nice video :) I would ask you if you have any advice for a site to find question banks. Furthermore, if you didn’t take notes, how did you start studying? Did you just read and read highlighting things and then question bank? Thank you
I have a link to Quesmed in the video description! I read, do questions, read the answer summaries (go elsewhere google, youtube if i don't understand the answer summary) keep doing questions... on repeat
@@anthony.zhang_ thank you for the answer. I went on the site you put but I am 1 year med student, I was searching biochemistry, physiology, and basic sciences and there I have seen more anatomy and systems..do you have any advices? Thank you
I love your video. It’s one of the best studying tip videos I lately watched! 😊 But I always ask myself, if you start a new topic by reading the chapter in the book and then do questions. Because it sounds as if no one wants to read the chapter or study the lecture. As if doing questions is the only type of studying, that brings you forward. What’s your advice? 🙈
Thank you! No reading something for the first time is great! What I mean by taking no notes, is don’t rewrite stuff that’s already out there. But, also just doing questions straight away is an option, it also depends on how difficult the topic is whether reading to understand is useful
Hey Anthony, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made. I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also highly engaging thumbnails which will help your video to reach to a wider audience .
Repeatedly seeing students rave about those question banks, it seems we'll now have many doctors who have never read a textbook. If they acquire the same information, so be it.
I know there's question banks but I just can't stand bio like there's so many ways they can ask a question because the subject can be random like some xyz molecule splits into this molecule and then triggers this molecule and have no idea how they are going to ask the question. Chemistry there are practice problems and Physics there are practice problems but biology depends on what kind of professor it is like if he or she is super detailed and wants to know the specific enzyme or what happens to this if _____ happens. Funny thing is one professor was like people are running out of time for tests so she combined the topics into longer questions but less problems so you have to know every single sequence (biochem) otherwise the whole problem is wrong.
thank you this was very helpful. i wanted to ask what if 1 hour a day is not enough? i struggle at remembering a lot of basics in medicine because i used to study last year the wrong way. when do i know when to stop and when to push my limits? i am aiming for top 1 and do better in general
Depends on how consistent you are with it - 1hr a day of solid studying is viable only if you are consistent and studying the right way. With 2 hrs a day and good study techniques you will have do great :) can ramp it up 6 weeks from exams and create a retrospective revision timetable and you will SMASH your exam
Useful tips but a bit harded for some of us who dont study in english so the pre-made resources are very limited. No ready question banks, just lectures
yeah i tried to for some time but it just feels very counter productive because it takes A LOT of time and you end up either having unnecessary information in the flashcards or leaving some behind because you dont really know what information to make into flashcards. thanks tho@@anthony.zhang_

I’m not sure for every medical school, but for ours we have a compulsory research project so yes!
