It's true we do over complicate meals. When I was growing up in the 80s my mum had a 2 week meal plan and stuck to it ! easier to shop and less waste I always knew what was for dinner
I’ve been meal planning for years now and don’t think I could do without one. We have similar things on certain days but varied recipes ie Thursday slow cooker, Sunday toast, fish on Tuesdays, easy on Weds and then just decide on the other days based on what’s going on those days. I cut some things from scratch like my slow cooker and the odd recipe and I do a mix of cupboard type things and freezer in between x
These are great ideas, I really want to try this. I think it will work. I am usually put off by anyone talking about meal plans because I feel like your supposed to do things from scratch and it will take a whole Sunday afternoon when I could be out with the kids.
Great video. I do a menu plan around the week ahead. Friday is micro meal night as we have late football training , Tuesday kids tea due to swimming. Rest kf week is combination of slow cooker and meals i know the kids will eat. I find this easier being a military wife as oftentimes the hubby is very late home or gone away for weeks or months at a time - allows me to semi keep my sanity intact. Have also started teaching my kids basic meals - beans on toast, breakfast, scrambled egg to take some of the pressure off. Yes more mess, but they love getting involved.
A previous boyfriend had the same thing on each day of the week (like gammon on Monday, fish on Tues etc) and it drove me nuts .... 25yrs later with a family I think it's a bloody genius idea 😂😂😂 Thanks for the tip with the school meals too, I use it to make sure my kids don't get the same thing for lunch and dinner 🤦🏼♀️ but to make my own plans that's a brilliant idea 💡
I have failed 9ver and over and over again to sticking to a meal plan. Something always comes up to dusmantle whatI've planned for the week. As a result, i'd always ene up deciding on that days' meals each morning...unless I wanted to do a dish that requires a bit more prepping ahead of time. So, what I've recently started doing is just having about 1-2 days of food prep, where I prep ahead staple ingredients that I normally use throughout the week. That makes last-minute meal planning soooooo much easier. If I wanta pasts dish, the pasta noodles are already is already cooked. Potpie? The pie crust is in the fridge already par-baked. Need onions and garlic? They're already chooped. Even cooking and shredding chuck roast for burritos or burrito bowls, will have already been done. Running low on my hubby's favorite cookies? No problem because I will already have cookie in the fridge or freezer. Sometimes I spread the meal prep out throughout the week, but it still makes planning and making what's for dinner so much easier. I love planning ahead and checking things off of my list for alot of things...but meal planning . Not so much lol.
Hi Gemma! Love the idea of meal planning but how about a family of 4 with 2 fussy kids where we won't eat the same thing- even a combination of the same thing. 😩
@TheFattyboomboom check out my previous comment about just having a food prep day. You can spread it out over the week, not just do it in one day. And focus on. Just prepping the most common ingredients you usually use throughout the week. Everyone in my household has different good sensitivities and one has actual food allergies, and I find this approach of prepping/planning to make it easier to be flexible with meals
My kids have different safe foods and eat very limited foods. Husband and I dont want to eat what they eat. I di meal plan but it feels like 3 different meals, every meal, every day 🤯
I hate meal planning. For some reason, as soon as I sit down to plan, I seem to loose all ability to concentrate and wonder off getting sidetracked by other things. It's costing me a fortune trying to make meals off of the top of my head every day.

I often double cook and freeze half. For difficult days. Casseroles. Bolognese. Currys etc
Fab idea 💡

Hi Gemma
Thanks for the video.
I’m always struggling to know what to do for dinner so this is so helpful. X
