@@leewarry8641 It's not a matter of the wiring. It's a matter of all the computer sensors that malfunction. I have had plenty of vehicles that have never had the wiring messed with, but they still have sensors that go bad and cause the motor to run poorly or just plain shut down.

Yeah computers don’t do things wrong. Programmers do. Also the sensors argument is extremely valid as well as people that try to rewire things or bypass things. You just don’t know all the ‘other’ things that depend on that data point too. KISS is what works (keep it simple stupid).
The need for emissions/fuel economy is the bane of all the computer and sensor needs. Pretty sure you would appreciate the computer more when you’re on a carburetor bike and it starts running rough because of elevation, and a host of other things that just do things for you that you don’t realize until, it doesn’t work. It made things work for you automatically 3,546,916 times but now that the sensor is bad the bike won’t start. It only takes 1 time and now it’s the computers fault lol

I ride a lot with a group across the Southwestern US, and there are times when we need to “get on it.” Passing slower moving vehicles on endless two-lane highways, for example, is much easier/safer when you have the ability to jump out and really go. I won’t say how fast maneuvers like this have gotten me and my fellow riders, but I will say that a limiter at 100 mph would be a problem. It’s especially troubling because the guys behind me would be riding up my backside if I were limited like that. Everyone would need to “recalibrate” for a rider that couldn’t keep up with the flow. I understand the aftermarket offers solutions; however, here we go again with big bucks for a bike that requires even more bucks to get what you thought you were already paying for.

True! I wanted to get around two big trucks on a two lane road. So I dropped down two gears and quickly got by them both. The driver in the lead truck might have enjoyed the sound of my bike, now in fifth gear, with over 10,000 rpm on the tachometer. But he probably would enjoyed the awesome thunder of a group of HD motorcycles even more. 100 mph is too low a limit. 100 mph is really not that fast.

Insurance companies pushed for this also. They want limiters on big rigs and. I'd bet they'll push for every vehicle after a certain date to have limiters. Ins companies are pushing hard for driver monitoring for tired or impaired drivers. Most likely using facial recognition analyzing cabin air samples and if either system is detected the system will take you off the road and most likely 911. I'm thinking Ford or Chevy already has a version of this installed on some models. Your a designated driver and taking 3 drunks home after the bars close at 3am and next thing your car comes to a stop off the road followed by a pair of red n blue lights. Or you got some trash in your eye at work and now its irritated, blood shot and watering. Technology is good but its the answer for everything

BMW have also had a speed limiter on some of their 6-cyclinder bikes, namely the K1600B and K1600 Grand America for some time. I think the GA has a 100mph speed limit. The one thing H-D and BMW have no absolutely no control over is the amount of load folk put on their bikes - and many do overload their touring bikes. If the manufacturers believe that an over-loaded, two-up machine run at maximum speed in gusty conditions is likely to become unstable then they may choose to put a limiter on it. Some manufacturers will be more conservative than others.
Over here in the UK, if you remove the speed limiter without declaring it as a performance modification, then you would not be insured in the event of an accident (if anybody found out ,of course).
Very many manufacturers of non-limited bikes supply their luggage with ADVISORY speed limits to be observed when mounted - maybe a topcase or maybe saddlebags.

Manufacturers limiting vehicle speed is not uncommon. Including Corvettes. They limit the vehicle's speed to the tire speed rating. This is according to a Chevy dealer I spoke with in Utah years ago. Made sense when he told me what my Monte Carlo SS topped out at, and I had previously experienced on the Bonneville Salt Flats. I was curious what the top speed was. He said I could have just asked. 😂🤣

most tires are rated to 100 or above except the cheepos, they are around 85. The high end tires speed ratings are around 165. Surprisingly even with technology that is about the limit tires can handle with few exceptions. The limit on your monte as with other similar G body's like the Regal aka Grand national, ect are at 124mph because the nose of the cars have terrible lift issues and they skid off the road because front tires leave the ground. It is brick aerodynamics, nothing to do with tires in your case. It is well known and documented since they were new.

Many drag race and obtain speeds well beyond the factory 124mph for the entire quarter mile run. People can do as they wish with their cars but I would think that the GM engineers are a fairly intelligent group of people and probably know what they are taking about. So if you believe you know more than they did keep on testing their design. If I was you and like my car I would have the information in the back of my mind next time you are floating down the highway covering all three lanes in your brick shaped boat at 150mph for fifteen or twenty minutes. 2009 Street Glide and its going strong. I might hit 100 when passing a car and trailer but usually keep it under 90. Now what troubles me about this nonsense by HD is they put bigger and bigger engines on the frame and limit it. Excuse me WT HELL is that. You think I'm going to drop 30k plus and have a limit......nope. They are losing customers at a fast rate. I dont see many young riders on the HDs here in N. AZ. See alot of mid life crisis guys buying the new ones. Sport bikes have had speed limiters since about the year 2000. My 2002 Suzuki GSXR 600 was speed limited to 156 mph. My 2003 Suzuki GSXR 1000 was speed limited to a mere 186 mph. No Harley is capable of speeds high enough to require a limiter. Speed limiters came into existence when a 1999 Suzuki Hyabusa 1300 cc bike in showroom stock configuration was clocked by a motorcycle magazine at something near 200 mph. That’s when they limited us to a 186 mph in the interest of keeping us safe, LOL!

Manufacturers typically limit top speed to the speed rating of the tires. Ancient bias technology tires don't cope well with heat, but they are cheap and good for heavy loads, so still HD uses them.
The reduced CVO SG speed is due to aerodynamic issues. HD also added a weight to the front. It was the cheapest Mickey Mouse fix HD could come up with, so that's why they did it.

I had a 2001 883 that I bought a used mainly for getting around in a few of the big cities in my area because of it's ability to cut in and out of traffic. I also had at the time a 2004 FLSTS with 16 inche ape hangers that was my main ride. I was a Chapter Vice Prez of a Nationally know MC. I had business to take care of in a large city and was on my way back to the small town I live in with a wide open stretch of interstate (50miles) between the two places. I was RIDING DIRTY and anyone in the MC world knows that a 3 piece patch on your back and contraband in your pocket equals RECO charges at a minimum of 25yrs. I didn't know that H-D had factory Rev limiters on these newer bikes so within a mile of getting on the interstate heading back home I saw State troopers with blue lights on inviting me to stop and chat with them I decided to play hard to get. I downshift to 4TH and the party starts. I got a great lead weaving in and out of interstate traffic and pegged the needle all the way back to 0mph . Within about 3 to 4 miles pegged out and having about the same distance distance between me and my dance partners my motor shuts off so I grabbed a hand full of clutch down shift to 4TH and Pop the clutch. In less than a second my rear piston doesn't want to be a part of the shenanigans anymore and exits it home inside of the rear jug, slapping me in the thigh and bounced. Thank God for the last two days of rain and the muddy ditch on the north side of the West bound lane. About 30 seconds later laying in the soft Mudd l hear my dance partner flying past my position and continuing on for miles. I rebuilt her into a faster 1200 version of her former Self and that's how I found out about the factory installed Rev Limiters. LoL. Thank God for small favors.
