We have LOVED the pattypans this year too!!

Ours died right after filming this 😭. I think I have enough time to quickly plant another round though! I was surprised at how much I liked them, seriously so good! We did stir fry with them just the other day. … don’t tell my kids but they hate squash and we were able to cut it up small enough for them to not even realize it was in there 😂

@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead we made "cheetos" out of our pattypans with the freeze dryer (you could use a dehydrator too) and got a 75% success rate of our 4 kids loving them!! Just cut into pieces, light oil, and put your favorite popcorn seasoning or powdered ranch etc and dehydrate or freeze dry. yummy!

      It’s okay, I love it!
It’s just a real quick video, nothing fancy! But since filming it we have had to support a good 20 more melons and it’s working great! In fact.. we had one sugar baby watermelon fall before being able to support it 🤦‍♂️, but the supported ones are doing so good!

You're going to love those Armenian cukes. We like them fresh and juiced. Cold cucumber juice is amazing in the hottest of days. The Armenian cukes don't pickle well.

Oh no, no pickling these! I actually filmed a video about them just last night while harvesting them. I’m seriously loving them, and they are LOVING this heat more than anything else in the garden. Our kids love cucumbers, thankfully so they will mow through these pretty quickly!

@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead you can try fridge pickles or fermenting but they don't hold up super well to heat processing.

That’s good to know! We have plenty of pickling cucumbers, but these we’ve been using as just.. table cucumbers. They’ve been great!

I can vouch for making cucumber lime aid with a little sweetner of choice to drink over ice on a hot day. Its very refreshing and if you have a lot of basil and don't need anymore pesto, you can blend basil (stems, flowers and all) with some water and sweetner and strain/pour over ice. It sounds weird but its actually a beautiful dark green refreshing drink. I've used Lemon Basil, lime Basil and regular genovese basil and all of it was delicious!

I just spent two hours in the garden pulling green beans that became crispy because of the heat and ripping out other things to transition to the next crop. I love lemon cucumbers and have two baby plants and some that just popped through the soil. I can't wait to harvest some. I have other cucumbers "pAnd I have an white Ethiopian and Japanese eggplant. The Ethiopian one grows quickly. I watch Chili Chump and Kang Starr too. This year I wanted to grow more Jalapeño's but ended up with a few peppers that are Shishitos and Lemon Drop. And I'm excited about some of my volunteer tomatoes that are growing better than the ones I planted. And i'm not sure if I'll get any watermelon or pumpkins. We shall see. But I got 5 eggs yesterday and I'm already needing recipes o use up extra eggs. I have two on the counter, a dozen in the fridge, gave my daughter 9 and made Egg bites that I froze for later out of 11 eggs. So searching recipes. 🥚🍳

Okay recipes.. do you like dill pickles? A favorite for our house is when we can pickles we take all the extra brine and put put it in a jar with hard boiled eggs. We literally have to hide them from the kids so they don’t each eat 10 eggs in a day 😂. We love pickled eggs, especially ones that taste.. like pickles 😂

@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead My daughter is 26 almost 27 and I haven't liked pickles since I was pregnant with her. But if instead of dill, I could make spicy ones, I could do that. It just can't taste like pickles. 😆

I’ve had spicy pickled eggs and those are great too! You can really take any pickling brine and use it for them. Just drop them in and let them sit for a couple days and you’re good to go!

Your garden looks amazing! All your hard work earlier in the year has clearly paid off. We live in NE Nevada but I'm actually from Southern Nevada and you can grow just about anything there except in the July and August. Armenian cucumbers and Okra grow so well there. Where we are now, not so much. Our garden here is really struggling. Thanks for the plant varieties you mentioned! I love the stuffed squash recipe you spoke of and I put those seeds on my wish list for next year. Same with the Pimiento de Padron peppers. I cant wait to try them both. Tomorrow I will be sowing sugar snap peas and some plants starts for a fall harvest. (Swiss chard and some brassicas) Earlier this year we had our greenhouse built so that will be a fun experiment to push the growing season into winter. You're right about the winter weather. It was no joke this time! The never ending winter and snow storms. Great video and look forward to your next one. One thing I'd like to suggest, when naming the different vegetable varieties, it might be helpful for us older folks if you also put a text up of the name. I had to rewind a few times on the Pimiento de Padron pepper then Google with some messed up spelling lol. Thank goodness Google knew what I was looking for. Keep growing and have a blessed day!

      Thank you, I appreciate it!
I bet it gets hot out there in Nevada, I’ve heard you guys have been in the triple digits for weeks now! I actually filmed a video just last night about Armenian cucumbers, they are LOVING the heat we have been having! How are yours doing?
I didn’t mention it in the video but after you stuff the squash put it in the oven at about 350 degrees! I’m not sure how long my wife cooks it but just make sure it’s long enough to soften that squash up, it’s so good!
I didn’t even think about that, I can definitely add some text next time! I honestly didn’t know if anyone would be interested in just.. seeing our garden but as long as there is one interested person I can absolutely add some text to help you out!
I appreciate you watching and leaving such a thoughtful comment!
Was there anywhere else in the video that I mentioned something that you were unable to hear? I would love to clarify for you if I need to!

@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead your entire video was good. The only trouble I had was getting the variety name of that fancy pepper you like. We're up north in Nevada now so its much cooler than Southern part. Im sure I'm not alone when I say I enjoy seeing other people's gardens and learning of new varieties, recipes and ways to preserve the harvest. Ive learn A LOT from watching videos. Im growing a yellow bush pattypan squash and Im actually going to try your wife's recipe with those since I'll have them by next month. Even of I have slice them in disks and let out on a sheet pan im still trying it. If there are any other recipes you enjoy that your wife makes feel free to share. Always looking for fresh and new ideas. Thanks so much! Sorry my comments are a bit wordy today 🙈🙊

I love long comments, keep them coming!
One she did the other day which is relatively common was she took our zucchini and sliced it long ways about 1/8” thick and used those like you would lasagna noodles! It actually turned out really good, she built an entire lasagna but used zucchini instead of noodles.
The only thing she would do different next time is salt the zucchini after it’s sliced to draw out some of the water content from them before cooking, but besides that it was so good!

For the first time in years… we used Sevin. We tried dish soap and water, neem, all the normal organic stuff but just about every day we were losing another plant. Sprayed mostly down by the base of the squash plants with sevin and it more or less got rid of all squash bugs. Still one or two here and there but 99% of them are gone.
