I bind to hell being unequally yoked and having any common share with anyone not being purified by God in desires, body, soul and spirit, binding to hell being unequally yoked and having any common share with anyone not being sure to want to be with me any days in a godly marriage, in accordance with this word and hebrews 13:4, james 1:8, matthew 6:24, 2 corinthians 6:14-18 in the name and blood of Jesus Christ, amen and hallelujah, glory to God!

Thank you. A church leader had a meeting last night on marriage... I attended because I wanted to gather some principles for a better Christian marriage...what I heard caused a physical reaction ( immediate eush of blood yo my head, causing a severe headache. My heart palpitated violently in my chest. Lightheadedness, etc. I thought if I tried to stand l would certainly collapse).
After the "leader" spoke I asked him if he thinks that verse has been and is being sorely misinterpreted to cause violent, disturbing, abusive acts against wives, women (and children) throughout history...
I was shocked by what he had said earlier. After my question, it appeared that he took it personal and attempted to clean up his previous conviction and interpretation of Hebrews 13:4 - he prefaced the topic and conversation by stating emphatically, that he was a "Progressive and liberal pastor..."
I fail to see how God's Holy Word seem to change each generation to suit culture and times. What was so one-hundred years ago, suddenly is not so today because the Bible was misinterpreted then, but today it is being understood plainly, by modern thinkers and is therefore subject to mean something better.
    That troubles my soul.
How can a "pastor" teach that Hebrews 13:4 means today that ANYTHING goes in the confines of the marriage bed, as long as it brings pleasure to the husband (and the wife)?

What if someone married someone they shouldn’t have because they were afraid to be single? Was that relationship still created by God? My sister married an abusive husband and her son married someone who abused him. They both had children from those marriages but ended up divorced and to this day suffer the consequences of their bad choices. I never married, never wanted to have to deal with bad marriage, messed up family. I know God can make good come out of a bad marriage but 3 out of 4 of my sisters kids ran away years ago, don’t even know if they are still living or not. And my nephews kids are selfish and disrespectful and do what they want when they want so these are consequences they suffer every day. I pray for them but they live the way they want to which results as a negative atmosphere so I can’t be around them much anymore. You can’t say God caused all this because they did not choose to trust God and made choices apart from God.

Honestly, I don’t believe that is what Pastor Derek is saying at all. In fact, he’s just sharing what the Bible (which is the Infallible Word of God) says about the sanctity of marriage. Marriage is a covenant relationship that God honors according to His word. Yet, it doesn’t mean that the couple that enters into this covenant relationship will not face difficulty. Nor, does it mean that God is responsible for all of the decisions we make for ourselves without consulting His Divine counsel.
As you have stated “ I know God can make good come out of a bad marriage…” & Yes He can and does!
You’ve stated you never married because you did not want to (based primarily upon how your sisters’ relationships turned out) yet that doesn’t mean this would be true for you. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV, “Trust in the Lord, with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight. “
Be encouraged beloved and continue to pray for your family & I will pray with you. God is Faithful. He never lies, changes, or Fails!
