    Ladies, if he:
    - Is not a real doctor but is a real worm
    - Lives like a worm
    - Interested in things
    - Likes to play the drums
    - Handles criticism about said drums
He's not your man. He's Doctor Worm.

Produced this for Nickelodeon while running a company called The Ink Tank. The animator was Tissa David, the director Jesse Gordon, Kaz did the character design. All told, we had a crew of about 10.

absolute real story: this was one of my twin brother's fav songs and he recited it for an improv english assignment in 8th grade. it was 2013 and no one knew what he was doing but they were all delighted. totally solidified his reputation as the funny kid with aspergers who would do anything- everyone we went to school with remembers him as a legend. he died in 2017 from a brain tumour and every time something reminds me of this silly ass song i think of him and just burst into tears.

sang this song to my sis when she was little, she thought I made it up and I was making up the lyrics as I went on. she liked it though and sang it to her friends, who all thought I was the creator. they thought this for 4 years. I never knew she thought I made this song up, so today I went to the video for some good times my sister flipped her shit thinking my song got famous on UA-cam. funny stuff.

    • @chelseamcalarney
      @chelseamcalarney 5 років тому +24

Hey, I know this is an old comment but I thought it was interesting that I also feel a little sad to listen and watch this. I have a few thoughts on why.
      1) When we first saw this, we were very young, and the kids in the video looked very grown up. "Big kids." Now that we watch as adults, we see how young they really are. But in reality, the kids in this video are older than us now. They will never be the kids in the video again, and we will never again be the kids who looked at them and saw someone "big."
      2) The song is very a very sweet description of someone just starting out with their craft, learning every day and excited. "I think I'm getting good but I can handle criticism..." The song is the daydream of a person who might just be on the precipice of a promising career. "Someday somebody else besides me will call me by my stage name..." I think that reminds us of all the dreams we had when we were kids, the fantasies of what we'd grow up to be and do, which may have gone unfulfilled.
      3) Pure nostalgia... classic Nickelodeon, Ka-Blam, and this video all belong firmly to the 90s. We miss that time. Things seemed less complicated, and those Friday night staying up to watch cartoons with our friends were maybe some of our happiest moments.
Here's something that makes me feel less sad. They Might Be Giants was formed in 1982 and they're still touring to this day! TMBG was my first real concert back in high school and it's so cool to think I could still go see them play again if I wanted to. These guys are older than us, they're older than the kids in the video, they lived through and partially defined the 90s, and they're still living their dreams today. They support other artists by continuing to hire animators to create their music videos. They continue to experiment, explore, and daydream. We can do that too.

The 70-80’s were alive in the 90’s. This was the late 90’s. Cartoons were for adults and children equally. The liberalism and hippie-ism of the 70’s was finally coming to a close, while a strange new master, progressivism, reared his ugly head in the shadows. Now our cartoons and music will never return. It does not serve the proper agenda for the progressive powers that be. See also: Velma, the new Powerpuff Girls

My contemporaries and I were the last generation of people to grow up without the internet, we had four channels on the telly, and had to go to the library and use books to learn. Back then, if you didn't know something, then toy were just shit out of luck. There was no google. Simple time. So good though.

My 4th grade teacher played this for the whole class back in 2012 and I immediately fell In love with this song. 4th grade was such a terrible year for me so whenever I felt sad I put this on and it immediately cheered me up. It’s very random but this song holds a special place in my heart, it’s fallen off so much that all my friends look at me weird when I sing it. But I don’t care. So Mr. Whitmer, if your reading this somehow thank for you exposing me to such an amazing song and being the best teacher I could ask for. You’ve changed my life more than you know.

I miss the days when Nickelodeon was still watchable. Back then things were fairly simple and the morals seemed different. That's probably just nostalgia speaking however songs like this seem like they have so much more personality then the stuff they show on Nickelodeon nowadays. TMBG will always be one of my favourite bands.

    They call me Doctor Worm
    Good morning, how are you?
    I'm Doctor Worm
    I'm interested in things
I'm not a real doctor, but I am a real worm
    I am an actual worm
    I live like a worm
I like to play the drums
I think I'm getting good, but I can handle criticism
I'll show you what I know
And you can tell me if you think I'm getting better on the drums
    I'll leave the front unlocked
Cause I can't hear the doorbell
When I get into it, I can't tell if you are watching me twirling the stick
When I give the signal, my friend Rabbi Vole will play the solo
    [Guitar Solo]
    Someday, somebody else besides me
Will call me by my stage name
They will call me Doctor Worm
    Good morning, how are you?
    I'm Doctor Worm
    I'm interested in things
I'm not a real doctor, but I am a real worm
    I am an actual worm
    I live like a worm
And I like to play the drums
